Cecil, who had flown off, landed on another high tower at this moment.
“Hey, if it isn't our dear Miss Scout?”
“What, do you need a gentleman of the demon race to chat with you now?”
Aliviel was currently sitting alone inside the other high tower. Cecil folded his wings and sat down beside the succubus.
“Give me a break, Mr. Demon who drinks in solitude.”
“If you could fix that mouth of yours, maybe you wouldn't be all alone right now.”
Aliviel threw an already opened bottle of wine toward Cecil, who had sat down beside her.
“Why is it open?”
“I swiped it from a human banquet. What do you think?”
“And here I thought it was something a certain succubus had already tasted.”
Shaking the pure white liquid in the bottle, a faint green hue began to emanate from within.
“Oh~ It seems the wine you brought back is meant to make the demon race short of an executive.”
Cecil brought his nose close to the mouth of the bottle and sniffed the strong scent of alcohol wafting from it.
“Mmm~ Truly fine wine. This must be from someone's private reserve. It seems some good things have been happening on the human side as well, for them to even bring out wine like this.”
Cecil raised the bottle and took a huge gulp.
“Exactly. It's just that some potent poison has been mixed in, ruining the beauty of the wine.”
Looking at the poison at the bottom that was so potent it still hadn't dispersed, Cecil really didn't know how much the poisoner must have detested the person meant to drink this cup to have put so much lethal poison in the wine that it still couldn't dissolve even now.
“So doesn't that benefit you, Mr. Demon who doesn't fear poison?”
Seeing Cecil offer her the bottle he had already drunk from, Aliviel's face showed clear disgust at the gesture.
“Hey, hey, I don't have a habit of drinking potent poison.”
“Who knows.”
Seeing that Aliviel was unwilling to accept the potent poison in his hand, Cecil drank it all in one gulp.
“In the past, we had to swallow whatever we got, whether it was poison or not, didn't we?”
“But now, Miss Succubus has become quite picky.”
Cecil collapsed backward onto the top of the tower. The moon tonight was exceptionally round.
He had never seen such a round moon before.
“Hey, Miss Succubus, have you ever seen such a round moon?”
“Heh, Cecil, you know we never had the time to look at things like this...”
“We do now, don't we?”
Aliviel chuckled softly. Seeing that the demon gentleman beside her was rarely not using his devastating verbal skills, she thought he might be drunk.
Still, he looked rather reliable right now.
No, wait! Why on earth would she think that?
Aliviel immediately averted her gaze from Cecil's face.
“What's wrong?”
“Nothing. Go back to looking at your moon.”
He didn't know what this succubus was getting angry about again, especially since he had uncharacteristically kept his mouth shut.
Watching Aliviel lie down beside him, Cecil swallowed the teasing remark he was about to make.
Catching a glimpse of the demon out of the corner of her eye looking as if he wanted to say something but stopping himself, Aliviel's mood improved considerably.
“The moon tonight is indeed quite lovely.”
“Compared to Miss Succubus, however, it pales in comparison.”
Hearing this, Aliviel's warm, moon-gazing mood instantly evaporated.
Wait, were those words actually coming out of this guy's mouth?
Aliviel whipped her head around even faster than Miss Saintess stuffing rolls into her mouth.
“Is something wrong, Miss Succubus?”
“No, did you just actually utter a compliment?”
“Uh-huh, who knows? Maybe potent poison does have an effect on the demon race after all.”
Seeing that Cecil had no intention of continuing this topic, Aliviel withdrew her shocked gaze.
Perhaps it really was the effect of the potent poison.
“But seriously, who was this top-grade poison meant for? It couldn't be for that emperor who's on his deathbed, right?”
Thinking of that insoluble poison, Cecil actually began to feel a bit curious about which lucky human that cup of wine was intended for.
Surely it couldn't have been prepared for him to drink.
“That poison? It was prepared for our old friend on the border.”
“That hot-tempered fool actually became the emperor, you see?”
Hearing Cecil ask, Aliviel found the whole situation utterly hilarious.
As an emperor, he was actually targeted with such a vile poison to put him to death right at his coronation ceremony.
Meanwhile, the other prince was still in the territory of the demon race, enjoying a completely different kind of banquet.
Truly ridiculous.
It seemed that this prince, who behaved in an extremely absurd manner in the demon territory, still had some followers.
“You mean that guy named Kei-something?”
“Forget it, I can't remember his name.”
The demon race probably didn't have any good impressions of Keith anyway.
“That's right, that incompetent prince actually became the emperor.”
“He's hosting a grand feast right now. I wonder which unlucky bastard will end up drinking that poisoned cup.”
As the emperor, Keith shouldn't be stupid enough to drink the first cup of wine himself without having it tested for poison.
“What does that have to do with us?”
“We swiped the bottle of evidence, so let that incompetent fool fume in anger.”
At the thought of Keith searching frantically but never finding any evidence, the two of them burst into laughter.
“Anyway, our banquet hasn't even reached its climax yet.”
“What do you mean?”
Aliviel was somewhat puzzled, not quite understanding what Cecil was suddenly talking about.
The topics this demon brought up changed at the drop of a hat.
“Mmh~ Miss Busy Succubus, don't go back to the Demon King's Castle tonight.”
“Wait, what do you actually mean?”
“Come with me first to set up some small, magnificent magic.”
“This is related to a grand, happy moment for our Lord Demon King.”
Standing atop the high tower, Cecil of course hadn't missed the atmosphere building up between Lin Ling and the other.
“No, what do you mean by that?!”
This demon was at it again, acting all mysterious at a time like this.
It really made her want to rip his mouth open.
Aliviel watched Cecil walk casually down the high tower, her clenched fists cracking repeatedly.
From a distance, Cecil's voice drifted back.
“If you want to know, why aren't you following me?”
“This had better be worth all your mystery.”
The atmosphere that had just built up vanished instantly. If Aliviel could see her affection level right now, her rating for this riddle-speaking demon would probably plunge into the negatives.
