Loviki paused for a moment and said softly, “In the past... it wasn't that frequent. It was just that occasionally, when I couldn't sleep because of something on my mind, I'd curl up on the sofa and look at the moon.”
“What about now?” Flora turned her head to look at her.
Loviki didn't answer right away.
She glanced at Chen Mian beside her, then at Flora and Louise, before finally resting her gaze on Velyan, who was watching her curiously with her golden eyes. Her lips curled up slightly. “Now, it seems I don't really need to suffer from insomnia anymore.”
“The water we fetched this afternoon should be boiled by now. Who wants to take a bath first?” Loviki changed the subject at the right moment.
“Me!” Velyan raised her hand almost reflexively, but then hesitated. “Actually, never mind. I'll go last. I still want to wash my wings... It'll take a really long time.”
“Then let Flora go first,” Loviki said, gesturing with her chin toward Flora. “Then Louise, then Velyan, and I'll go last.”
“You're quite the organizer, aren't you?” Louise turned her head, her violet-gold eyes carrying a trace of a smile.
“Of course! I'm the landlady now!” Loviki said, her lips curving upward slightly.
“What about Chen Mian?”
Chen Mian leaned back against the sofa and said casually, “You girls go first.”
Flora had already stood up, rummaged through her backpack for a change of clothes, and walked toward the bathroom.
When she reached the bathroom door, she turned back, her gaze landing on Chen Mian. “Your coat smells like hot pot. There's no washing machine here, so how about I wash it for you while I'm at it?”
Chen Mian nodded, took off his coat, walked to the door, and hung it inside the bathroom.
Only after watching him finish did Flora smile and step into the bathroom, gently closing the door behind her. A moment later, the faint sound of running water could be heard.
“It seems Flora is even better at being a landlady than you are,” Louise said lazily, still leaning against the sofa and looking at the moonlight outside the window.
Loviki turned her head, thought seriously for a moment, and replied with a curl of her lips, “T-Then I'll just hand the house over to Flora to manage.”
“And what about you?”
“I'll just be responsible for living here.”
“Giving away a house you bought yourself just like that?” Louise let out a soft chuckle.
Loviki rested her chin on her knees, her voice carrying a hint of lightheartedness she herself hadn't noticed. “Of course~ I wouldn't mind giving it to Flora at all... Besides, this isn't the only place I can stay.”
The sound of water continued from the bathroom, accompanied by Flora's soft humming.
“She hums when she's happy,” Chen Mian said, leaning back against the sofa.
“...How do you know that so well?”
“Because she lives in my home.”
Loviki turned her head, her ruby-like eyes darting away slightly. “Oh... I see.”
“Saying Flora lives in your heart would probably be more accurate,” Louise said, picking up her juice and taking a sip.
“In that case, you live in my heart too.”
Louise's eyelashes fluttered, and her hand holding the juice froze in midair.
After a moment, she turned her head to look at Chen Mian, her lips curving up slightly as she said casually, “Chen Mian, you should save those kinds of words to coax Flora. If you say them to me... I'll take them seriously.”
“I'm not trying to coax you.”
“...I get it,” Louise said, her ears turning slightly red as she looked away.
Loviki turned her head, her gaze shifting back and forth between Chen Mian and Louise, and then she took a sip from her already empty cup.
“Chen Mian, Louise and Flora have both been carried off by you,” Velyan said as she leaned against the sofa, her golden eyes wide open.
“I wasn't carried off. I came on my own accord,” Louise said with a soft chuckle, putting down her juice.
The sound of water in the bathroom stopped, the door cracked open, and Flora poked half of her wet head out.
“What are you all talking about? I think I heard Velyan say something about being carried off?”
Loviki shook her head and said, “N-Nothing!”
Flora tilted her head, her gaze sweeping over the three on the sofa, and her lips curled up slightly. “I'm all done. Next is Louise.”
Louise set down her juice cup, her violet-gold eyes resting on her for a brief moment. She picked up the change of clothes she had prepared earlier, and as she passed by Flora, she turned her head and murmured, “Dry your hair properly so you don't catch a cold.”
“I'll dry it in a bit,” Flora said with a smile, stepping aside to let her into the bathroom.
Soon, the sound of water echoed from the bathroom once again.
Flora hung the washed clothes on a nearby rack, then walked over to the sofa.
“Sit here,” Chen Mian said, patting the spot next to him.
“Okay~” Flora said with a soft laugh, sitting down beside him.
Chen Mian retrieved a clean, dry white towel from his storage space and gently wrapped it around Flora's hair.
“When did you put a towel in your space?” Flora blinked.
“I put it in when we were leaving,” Chen Mian said, walking in front of her and unfolding the towel. “I was just worried a certain elf who doesn't dry her hair after bathing might catch a cold.”
Flora's face flushed with a faint blush once again. She pursed her lips slightly and sat obediently on the sofa, letting Chen Mian dry her hair for her.
Loviki sat on the other side of the sofa with her knees pulled up, the blanket still draped over her legs. Her gaze darted to the two of them before quickly shifting away, pretending to earnestly study the cover of a book on the coffee table titled 《A Guide to Raising Ice Wolves》.
“You have quite a lot of hair,” Chen Mian said, a hint of amusement in his voice.
“Yes, it's hard to dry without a hairdryer, and using wind magic just makes it all messy,” Flora mumbled, looking down at her knees.
Chen Mian didn't say anything more and continued to dry her hair.
Flora relaxed her shoulders slightly.
“...Chen Mian.”
“Hmm?”
“...I like you,” Flora said softly.
“Yeah.”
A soft cough came from the other end of the sofa.
“Can you two not do this in public?” Loviki's voice drifted out from behind the book pages. She was trying her best to maintain a calm tone, but she was speaking much faster than usual.
“Do what?” Chen Mian didn't even look up.
“J-Just... l-li... l-li...” Loviki stammered for a while but couldn't bring herself to say it. Ultimately, she used the book to block her face and gave up. “Never mind...”
“Loviki wants to be carried off too.”
“...Velyan, speak less!”
“Oh,” Velyan responded, but her gaze lingered on Loviki's bright red ears for a moment before slowly drifting away.
Flora giggled, her shoulders shaking slightly. “Loviki, it's totally fine if you want to be carried off, you know.”
“I-I... I do not!”
