Five days after the Yangcheng incident.
Xichang City in the Nanming Kingdom, located just over eight hundred kilometers from the Capital.
In front of the sixty-five-story government building.
Liu Wen stood there with his hands behind his back, his expression indifferent. “Xichang City has a population of twelve million and the fifth-largest economy in the Nanming Kingdom. It is the perfect territory for my Liu family.”
Behind him, Liu Zhian and Liu Qi stood quietly.
Over the past few days, they had been searching for cities within the country, selecting a suitable territory for the Liu family's development.
Aside from its large population, there was another factor he highly valued: its proximity to the Capital, making it convenient for him to enter the Capital at any time.
“Grandfather, why don't we go straight to the Capital? We already purged the Parliament once. If we go there, we can easily take control of them,” Liu Zhian asked, puzzled.
Upon hearing this, Liu Wen said calmly, “Although the Capital has a large population, and I did want to control it before, I changed my mind after what happened in Yangcheng. We shouldn't think about that until our Liu family can suppress or even crush the other factions.”
Their Liu family was not invincible among the first wave of supernatural beings. Occupying the capital of the world's most powerful nation would easily invite unnecessary trouble.
If some die-hard loyalist supernatural of the Nanming Kingdom appeared later on and came to harass him in the name of the country, he wouldn't even have the chance to grow.
‘The population of Xichang City is enough for me to evolve once or twice. Once my strength reaches a certain level, perhaps I can truly take over the Capital.’ Liu Wen narrowed his eyes.
Hearing this, Liu Zhian's face darkened, and he said nothing more.
Liu Wen glanced back at him and saw his grim expression. “Are you still thinking about your father? Do you blame me for not stepping in to avenge Jiyun back then?”
Liu Zhian nodded in silence. The hatred of his father's murder was not something easily let go.
Liu Wen walked over to him and patted his shoulder. “Xiao An, your grandfather wanted to kill them more than anyone, but our strength wasn't enough back then.
If we had fought to the death, it wouldn't have mattered to an old man like me. But you are still young. You are the future of our Liu family and the only son Jiyun left behind. I couldn't take you with me to throw your life away.”
“Grandfather, I...” Liu Zhian's eyes grew slightly red, wanting to say something.
Liu Wen raised a hand to interrupt him. “Your father's death also served as a wake-up call for me. Our Liu family is not invincible against the Church of the Earth Mother or that Tang kid.
Nor can we guarantee we won't encounter even stronger enemies in the future. For now, you and Ah Qi must follow my lead closely. We have to become stronger. I don't want the Liu family to lose anyone else.”
With that, he looked at Liu Qi.
Liu Qi still had some bandages wrapped around his body.
Seeing Liu Wen look over, he picked up his phone and said, “Grandfather, all the high and low-ranking officials of Xichang have gathered. Today is their general assembly, and the Night Slaves have already controlled them.”
“Let's go, Xiao An, Ah Qi. Xichang City will be the Liu family's new base of operations. As for the Capital, once we grow strong enough, I will personally take you there. At that point, you can even become the Emperor if you want.” Liu Wen led the two of them toward the government building.
At the entrance, the doors had long been opened. Night Slaves in suits, their eyes glowing crimson, stood there.
There were still traces of blood on the ground; the guards on duty had already been cleared away.
The three of them walked straight in. In the corridors, all the staff members had been forced into rooms.
Inside one room, several employees stared at the crimson-eyed Night Slaves outside.
Their faces were pale. One of the women trembled, “Those red-eyed people are the supernatural beings that appeared in Yangcheng. They... they aren't here to massacre us, are they?”
The Night Slaves could leap three to four meters in a single bound, possessing speed and strength far exceeding normal humans. People online referred to them as “super red-eyes.”
“No, if they wanted to kill us, they would have done it already,” a minor manager on the other side said, suppressing his fear.
Outside, none of the three passing Liu family members cared what these people thought.
They took the elevator straight to the eleventh floor, the conference level.
The elevator doors opened. On this floor, there was only a set of double reddish-brown doors, with two Night Slaves standing beside them.
Liu Wen approached the entrance, and the Night Slaves pushed open the conference room doors.
Inside was an auditorium-style conference hall, already packed with over a hundred people.
These officials, who usually held key positions in the city, looked panicked. They glanced around from time to time at the Night Slaves standing there, holding sharp weapons.
Blood was still dripping from the axes and long blades in their hands.
At the very front of the conference hall sat two middle-aged men.
The one on the left wore black-rimmed glasses and was slightly chubby, while the one on the right was in military uniform.
One was the mayor and the other was the garrison commander. At the moment, Night Slaves held them by their heads, with long blades pressed against their necks.
As the doors opened, the officials turned to look toward the entrance.
Liu Wen looked at the crowd and said expressionlessly, “Everyone, I assume you all recognize me.”
“Liu Wen! This is the Xichang government building! What do you think you're doing, bringing people here? Do you really think our military can't do anything to you?!” At that moment, a middle-aged man among those seated below stood up, shouting righteously in rebuke.
Seeing how brave he was, the officials sitting around him paled and quickly scrambled away to avoid getting splattered with blood.
Splat!
An axe flew from behind, splitting open the back of the middle-aged man's head.
Liu Wen didn't even spare a glance at this minor character as he strode up to the podium.
The Night Slaves holding the mayor and the general let go, and the two quickly stood up.
The mayor, his face pale, said, “Elder Liu, we didn't know what business brought you to our Xichang City. Just say the word, and I will mobilize the entire city to assist you!”
He wasn't like those minor officials below. Given his status, he was well aware that Liu Wen had slaughtered the five major councilmen in a single night.
“Indeed, Elder Liu. We never expected you to come here. If you need anything, the soldiers under my command will be more than happy to assist you,” the general beside him quickly squeezed out a smile.
This old man was someone who dared to do absolutely anything.
Liu Wen sat in their former seats, looked at the terrified officials below, and smiled. “I came here because I took a liking to this place. From now on, this is my Liu family's territory.”
As he spoke, a red light flared, causing all the officials below to fall into a daze.
Liu Wen left a spiritual imprint in the minds of these officials, forcing them to involuntarily feel absolute loyalty to the Liu family.
Those controlled by the spiritual imprint retained their previous thoughts and intellect, unlike when he was in the Capital and turned the soldiers into mindless puppets.
Xichang City was too large; he needed them to manage the city.
Behind Liu Wen, the mayor and the general paled as they watched the crowd enveloped in the red light.
Before they could do anything, Liu Wen turned around. The red light flashed over them, throwing them into a brief daze. When they recovered, they no longer felt as much terror looking at Liu Wen. Instead, they felt a sense of familiarity and closeness.
Having done all this, the red light vanished.
Liu Wen looked at the mayor and ordered, “Contact the Capital. Tell them that this is now my Liu family's territory. If anyone has an objection, I will personally pay them a visit to have a chat!”
“Yes, yes, I'll get right on it!” the mayor quickly nodded.
He didn't even realize that his heart was already subtly aligning itself with Liu Wen.
Having finished, Liu Wen stood up and turned to walk out. “Zhian, you stay behind. Help me gather people. I need to continue absorbing spirituality.”
“Understood,” Liu Zhian nodded.
Liu Qi followed Liu Wen out.
Without the intervention of other supernatural beings, the city with the fifth-largest economy in the Nanming Kingdom fell into their hands just like that.
As for how the government would react afterward, Liu Wen was confident that as long as he grew strong fast enough, those useless fools wouldn't dare utter a peep.
