In a dark space that did not exist in the real world...
There was only an endless expanse of black water, emitting a black mist of death.
Plop!
The calm black water suddenly rippled, and then waves began to spread across its surface.
“De...ath...”
A month had passed since the Yangcheng incident.
Night fell over a small coastal city in Nanming Kingdom.
Several law enforcement vehicles parked by the street, and the scene was cordoned off with police tape by inspectors.
“Is someone dead again?”
“This is already the eleventh death this week. The killer hasn't been caught yet; I don't even dare to go outside anymore.”
Outside the cordon, a crowd of civilians gathered, discussing the scene inside.
“I don't think this killer is an ordinary person. Haven't you seen the news online? More and more terrifying things are appearing. I bet we have them here in Liaocheng, too.”
Someone suddenly muttered, and the chatter at the scene ground to a halt.
Right at that moment, the inspectors inside carried out a corpse covered in a white sheet.
Whoosh!
As it passed the crowd, a sudden gust of wind blew the white sheet away, exposing the corpse beneath.
The body was nothing but a head and a skeleton, with clear bite marks on the bones.
The onlookers' faces paled instantly upon seeing this.
The inspector captain in charge of the scene snapped in anger, “Dammit, how did you secure that sheet?!”
“Disperse! Everyone disperse! Don't spread rumors. We, the Inspector Bureau, will do our best to catch the killer!” Other inspectors stepped forward to disperse the crowd.
Seeing this, the crowd began to scatter.
Standing at the back of the crowd was a beautiful woman. She was 1.69 meters tall, wearing a white tracksuit, with pale skin and her hair tied in a ponytail at the back of her head.
He Wenxi watched the corpse being carried away, her face entirely devoid of fear.
As expected, I still don't feel afraid.
He Wenxi turned and walked down the opposite street.
A few days ago, her sense of fear toward anything had begun to vanish. It didn't seem like a mental illness that affected her other emotions, though.
She could still feel happy and angry, but the emotion of fear was simply disappearing.
Especially today, after seeing that gruesome corpse, she felt absolutely no internal reaction.
The pedestrians on the street gradually thinned out.
Before she knew it, she had walked up to an ordinary apartment building where she lived.
“This is a robbery!” a voice suddenly called out from behind.
A dagger pressed against her lower back. He Wenxi stood still, not moving an inch.
Behind her, a man with a black stocking over his head looked around nervously. “I only want money, not your life! Hand over all your cash, or my knife might get reckless!”
“Okay.” Even with a dagger pressed against her, He Wenxi didn't feel a shred of fear.
She expressionlessly took out her wallet from her pocket.
The man behind her grinned with delight and snatched the wallet.
“Fool. Still laughing? Haven't you noticed something is wrong here?” He Wenxi's voice interrupted his joy.
Hearing this, the man instinctively looked back, and his expression instantly froze.
The street behind them had plunged into darkness at some point. The sounds of traffic and honking horns that had been audible moments ago were completely gone.
The road ahead was the same. The two of them seemed to be enveloped by this darkness, with only a single streetlight on the left illuminating a radius of a dozen meters.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Heavy footsteps echoed from the darkness ahead. Something was coming toward them.
“What's going on? Did you do this?!” The man panicked as he heard the sound, suddenly recalling the rumors online.
As he spoke, he pressed the dagger against He Wenxi's neck.
“...”
He Wenxi said nothing, merely staring quietly into the darkness ahead.
Even though she was in imminent danger of dying, she didn't seem to feel any fear at all.
As the man behind her waited in terror, a three-meter-tall figure slowly emerged from the darkness.
A dozen crimson tentacles supported a two-meter-wide, irregular mass of flesh as it walked.
The mass of flesh seemed so heavy that every few meters the tentacles carried it, the flesh would slam heavily onto the ground.
The thumping sounds were coming from this very creature.
“Mmm... delicious... delicious...” A halting, raspy voice drifted from the mass of flesh.
Watching the bizarre monster draw closer, the man holding the dagger trembled all over. “Why am I so unlucky...”
