On an island in the Endless Bay, the Shadow King stared at the three undead before him, his expression extremely grave.
The reason was simple: the three undead standing before him were all Gold Rank—and peak Gold Rank at that!
“Two hidden in the palace, and one out in the open, making it look like there is only one undead general on the entire Endless Bay...” the Shadow King said coldly. “To station so many Gold Rank transcendents here in the Endless Bay, your Burns Court certainly knows how to bide its time!”
“Hehehe,” the undead priest chuckled upon hearing the Shadow King's words. “It pays to be prepared, after all.”
“Prepared?” the Shadow King questioned sharply once more. “You undead generals who have fallen from the Diamond Rank are actually worried you can't guard the Endless Bay on your own? You need three of you stationed here together?”
“Naturally. After all, the name Leon Douglas is quite well-known, even to old fogies like us who have been asleep for so long,” the undead rogue said. “Originally, we hid in the palace to set an ambush for Leon Douglas. Who would have thought a little thief like you would sneak in first and disrupt our plans...”
The necromancer interjected, “Now that the plan is ruined, Leon Douglas will surely know we have three peak Gold Rank combatants here. Perhaps he won't even dare to make another move. Shadow King, one of the Five Kings of the Dusk Sea, tell us... how should we punish you?”
The Shadow King's expression darkened. Out of the corner of his eye, he scanned the encirclement formed by the three undead, searching for a weakness that would allow him to break through.
But... while his face remained impassive, his heart sank.
It wasn't because there were no weaknesses, but because everything was a weakness!
This encirclement was like a pair of underwear he had worn for ten years—it was full of holes!
Under these circumstances, the Shadow King felt he could easily break through in any direction.
But this only made him feel more uneasy.
These three undead were all top-tier powerhouses who had fallen from the Diamond Rank. When they were alive, they were generals of the Burns Court, having campaigned across several nations and slaughtered countless lives. How rich their combat experience must be! How could such obvious flaws exist?
The Shadow King's mind raced, countless calculations and deductions flashing through his brain until his head practically began to smoke.
Just then, a calm voice rang out, instantly interrupting his thoughts and drawing the gaze of the three undead.
“You don't need to worry,” a figure clad in gold-trimmed priest robes said, looking down from high in the sky amidst the howling wind. “Their target isn't you. It's me.”
Leon stood tall in the sky, looking down at the three undead generals as he said, “Just as you wished, I have come.”
“Young Master Leon?” The Shadow King was startled. He hadn't expected Leon to come to his aid so quickly.
“Hehehe!” When the three undead generals saw Leon, they burst into wild laughter.
“He's here! He actually came!” The soul fire in the eyes of the leading undead priest flickered as he opened his mouth, which contained only a single row of teeth. “It seems this Shadow King holds a lot of weight in your heart, Leon. Otherwise, you wouldn't have barged right into our encirclement just to save him.”
However, Leon completely ignored the undead's words. He merely looked down at the Shadow King and said, “Leave. Leave this to me.”
“Huh?” The Shadow King was stunned, not understanding what Leon meant.
“Now that you've baited out their top combat power, your mission is complete,” Leon said to the Shadow King. “Leave this place to me. I don't want you getting in my way during the fight.”
Getting in his way? Me? A peak Gold Rank combatant?
The Shadow King was dumbfounded for a second. But seeing that Leon's expression was completely serious, he didn't dare to speak up.
He quickly flew up toward Leon's position and retreated rapidly.
During this, the necromancer wanted to intercept him, but was stopped by the undead priest beside him.
“The Shadow King is of no consequence. Let him go,” the undead priest said, his gaze locked onto Leon. “Our only target is him. Other living beings are insignificant.”
“Arrogant, aren't we...” Leon shook his head slightly upon hearing this. To think that even one of the Five Kings of the Dusk Sea was considered insignificant in the eyes of these undead.
“It is not arrogance, but respect—respect for you, Leon Douglas,” the undead priest said calmly. “Your name is illustrious, even to old relics like us who have been dead for over a thousand years. The Governor of the Southern Province appointed by the Heron Emperor himself, a once-in-a-century Divine Art genius of the Church of Sacred Light, and a Gold Rank priest under seventeen years old... To deal with you, we must assemble all of our forces.”
Leon smiled upon hearing this. “Oh? So I'm that famous, huh? Even you old fogies are familiar with me.”
The undead priest paid no mind to Leon's choice of words, continuing, “Leon Douglas, our King has taken a liking to your talent. He is willing to offer you a chance to join our Burns Court and transform into an immortal undead. Are you willing?”
“Join you? I'll pass. I'm afraid if I join on the first day, that old geezer the Sage King will hunt me down and kill me the next,” Leon waved his hand.
Hearing this, the undead priest's soul fire flared. “What a pity. Since you refuse—then die!”
With those words, the three undead generals hesitated no longer. They unleashed their full power in an instant, launching a thunderous joint strike at Leon!
Countless spells, arcane techniques, and deathly divine arts rained down like a torrential storm, firing in rapid succession. In just half a second, they completely sealed off any space Leon had to maneuver!
These undead generals played to kill right from the start!
Yet, in the face of this barrage of lethal attacks, Leon's expression remained unchanged. He raised his priest's scepter, and the mental power in his mind surged like a tide, gathering in his feet.
With a flash of brilliant sacred light, Leon's figure instantly vanished from the focus of the three undead generals' attack.
Boom! Boom!
Fire and explosions erupted violently in midair, accompanied by the lashing of necrotic tentacles and the bone-chilling cold of soul fire.
“Is he dead?” the necromancer asked.
“It shouldn't be that simple—”
Before the undead priest could finish his sentence, he suddenly raised his scepter, condensing a shield of rotting flesh in front of himself.
Bang!
With a dull, piercing sound, the rotting flesh shield instantly shattered, and the undead priest behind it was sent flying backward at high speed!
His body curled like a shrimp in midair as he crashed violently from the sky into the ground, smashing deep into a massive boulder.
In an instant, the massive boulder cracked with countless radiating fissures centered around the undead priest, and huge chunks of rock went flying!
This sight caused the soul fire in the eye sockets of the remaining two undead generals to flicker wildly.
They immediately whipped their heads around, only to see Leon—who should have been at the center of their combined attack—standing high in the sky in a completely different spot!
And they hadn't sensed a thing!
