“Sigh... isn’t that way too dangerous for you!?”
Hearing Mo Shao’s words, Little Ka put on a worried expression.
“Just trust me.” Mo Shao offered a slight smile, putting on an air of “this is easy,” and walked straight to the main door.
However, don't be fooled by her cool demeanor; in reality, if she were forced to fight these monsters head-on, she truly wouldn't be a match for them right now.
The reason she dared to make such a bold claim was primarily because there were special mechanics one could exploit to deal with these Tacet Discords.
—The Counterattack, commonly known as parrying or clashing!
When a Tacet Discord attacks, as long as you time your own attack to sync with the critical moment, you can directly cancel out their strike!
Furthermore, doing so significantly reduces the opponent's Vibration Strength—which is the white bar below their health in the game!
Once that white bar is depleted, the monster falls into a state of paralysis!
So, with good enough execution, it was possible to farm these Tacet Discords one-on-one without taking a single hit!
With the combat techniques she had brought back from her rebirth, even with a different body, she was more than capable of outplaying a Gulpuff!
After all, she had been a motorcycle robot in her past life. There was no such thing as “muscle memory” for her; she relied purely on her “brain.”
Now, she had brought back all those combat memories, and the physical stats of a Magical Girl's body were quite excellent.
Moreover, this Gulpuff was currently in a “standby” state, not yet fully awakened, so all its movements still followed the game’s original framework.
—She definitely had the ability to deal with it!
As for why she added the Mimic to her plate, there was a reason for that too—this thing had a mechanic to exploit as well!
In Wuthering Waves, if you hit a Mimic just as it leaps for a pounce, you can kill it instantly!
Thus, that Mimic was essentially a freebie. Drawing it toward herself was just a better way to show off her skills!
...
Mo Shao placed her backpack by the supermarket entrance and then pulled out an iron sword for Live-binding. This was a [Sharpness II] iron sword!
She had traded for only one from a villager!
For her second Live-binding slot, she chose the Snake Talisman. In case something went wrong, a sudden burst of invisibility would be very useful.
She still had several Ender Pearls stuffed in her pockets. If a real emergency occurred, she could temporarily switch her bindings to make a forced escape.
For a returner like her, even though switching bindings still took time, she was much faster than others.
If she anticipated correctly, she could barely manage to use it mid-combat—though she naturally hoped it wouldn't come to that.
She chose not to use a shield; it was too bulky and would interfere with her movements. Besides, carrying a shield around... would honestly be a bit of a blow to her cool image.
After quickly finishing her preparations, Mo Shao looked at the rolling shutter door before her. After a moment of thought, she decided not to simply chop it open.
—What if this place was still useful later?
“Key.” She reached her hand back toward her side. The supermarket owner, holding the keys, cooperated immediately and handed them over.
Mo Shao took the keys, nimbly unlocked the door, wedged the tip of her shoe into the gap at the bottom, and kicked it upward—revealing her targets.
The doorway wasn't blocked; there was a bit of distance between them, which was a very good start.
...
“I’m going in.” With a final, simple flick of her iron sword toward Little Ka, Mo Shao charged forward without hesitation.
“...Okay!” After a split second of hesitation, Little Ka quickly composed herself and followed right behind.
As luck would have it, the Mimic on the side was the first to notice their arrival and lunged directly toward Little Ka.
—Wasn't this the perfect time for a hero to save a damsel in distress?
Mo Shao’s gaze shifted to the Mimic. Under her powerful mental strength, the world in her eyes seemed to slow down.
At the very moment its mouth opened and it reached the peak of its leap, the “feeling” accumulated over years of experience suddenly flashed! A cold light swept out instantly!
Clang!
A sharp, precise blade-strike cut through the air, followed by a resonant chime!
The Mimic instantly lost its momentum and hit the ground, twitching a few times before dissolving into golden light.
A pale gold, translucent Echo remained floating in its place—not bad luck, dropping an Echo on the first try.
The entire sequence had happened in a mere heartbeat. The crowd hadn't even had time to react!
Little Ka was the same; the panicked expression hadn't fully faded from her face—after all, she was a Transformer, not the original version of the character.
No matter how similar she was in personality or behavior, there was one thing that was hard to replicate.
—Growing up in a peaceful era, where would she have gotten combat experience?
This was normal. It was only the second morning of the apocalypse; how could anyone expect her to instantly transform into a true warrior?
Based on the injuries inside the supermarket, it seemed they hadn't suffered many monster attacks here.
—That was because all the heat had been drawn away by the cafeteria!
Of course, this would only last for the first few days of the apocalypse. Once [Chaos] really started exerting its influence, escaping disaster wouldn't be so easy.
...
“Time to wake up, there are still two monsters left.” Mo Shao reached out and patted Little Ka’s shoulder as a signal, then dashed out again.
Due to her attack, the Gulpuff and the Cruisewing were already “aggro-linked” and had turned their attention toward her.
“Oh!” Little Ka snapped out of her daze, took a deep breath, and suppressed her shock as she followed Mo Shao’s lead.
With a slight bit of kiting from Mo Shao, they successfully separated the monsters, each facing their own target.
Pulling the aggro was actually quite simple; the Gulpuff’s mobility was honestly absurd, even better than the flying Cruisewing.
As soon as she moved a bit further away, the Gulpuff took a long leap right into her face, naturally leaving the Cruisewing to be intercepted by Little Ka.
And then... it was time to focus on dealing with this annoying monster. Mo Shao’s expression darkened slightly as her focus intensified, entering “combat mode.”
The Gulpuff pressed its fists together, the bone spurs on its arms extending—and then it fired an air cannon point-blank!
—This move couldn't even be parried!
Mo Shao pushed off her toes and quickly sidestepped. It looked effortless on the surface, but she had actually evaded the attack by a hair's breadth.
Fortunately, the wind-up for that move was relatively long...
Next, the Gulpuff followed up with a claw swipe, followed by a side-roll, then a spinning slash, before touching the ground with one hand and leaping into the air!
It then tucked itself into a wheel shape, charging forward with a spinning impact! Sand and stones flew as every strike and movement was accompanied by the howling of fierce winds!
But this was it! — Clang!
Following her gut instinct, Mo Shao swung her sword in a direct counter, canceling out the attack! She immediately followed up with a piercing thrust!
Naturally, she had infused her blade with a large amount of mana. To settle this cleanly and coolly in one go, she had to pour on the damage!
The Gulpuff performed another side-leap, then lowered its body and ducked, launching a sudden lunge combined with a tail whip, thrusting forward like a drill!
However, there was another Clang! as Mo Shao completed yet another Counterattack! Her timing was perfect!
After this “warm-up,” she had completely grasped her opponent's attack rhythm, and her synchronization with her body was growing smoother.
All that was left to do—was to achieve a no-damage clear!
