Wu Yao didn't pull herself away from the Moon-Silver Wood forest until the system notified her that the Moon Well's construction was complete. She now had over a hundred more units of Moon-Silver Wood in her Inventory.
She walked into the cabin. The structure, which had only existed as a thumbnail before construction, was now fully complete.
Though called a well, it looked more like an octagonal altar.
The well's platform was constructed from solid blocks of Moon-Silver Stone, with a short pillar at each of its eight corners. Intricate runic patterns were carved into the pillars, casting a faint silver halo under the moonlight spilling through the doorway.
The mouth of the well had no cover, containing a substance that seemed to exist somewhere between a liquid and a gas.
It was as if someone had scooped up a ladle of moonlight and carefully poured it inside. The light flowed slowly within the well, shifting between bright and dim like a living creature breathing.
The swirling silver glow inside the well was well within reach. Wu Yao leaned over, extended her right hand, and gently dipped her fingertips into the opening.
The moment the light touched her fingertips, it suddenly dispersed in all directions, only to gather around them once more.
A cool, refreshing sensation spread from her fingers to her wrist, leaving a trace of faint chill as it glided against her skin.
It was actually quite comfortable.
Wu Yao submerged her entire hand, gently swirling her fingers through the light.
The silver glow churned, and countless tiny specks of light slipped through her fingers, coalescing at the bottom of the well into the shape of a hazy full moon.
When she pulled her hand out, a few stubborn specks of light remained on her fingertips, lingering on her skin for a moment before reluctantly drifting back down into the well.

At some point, Xuanmiao had slipped out of the bedroom. She leaped silently onto the platform, landing steadily on the Moon-Silver Stone surface.
She lowered her head, her emerald eyes staring curiously at the flowing silver glow inside the well.
Seeing that there was no risk of the kitten falling in, Wu Yao left her to it and opened the building list, scrolling to the defense buildings tab.
Now that the Moon Well was built, her firepower could finally be put in place.
【Elemental Turret (Lv.1)】
【Category: Magic Building/Defense Building】
【Effect: Automatically generates spells to attack hostile targets within range, dealing corresponding elemental damage.】
【Range: 20 meters】
【Attack Interval: 3 seconds】
【Construction Materials: Moon-Silver Wood ×50, Iron Ingot ×20, Copper Ore ×20, Niveya's Stone ×10, Spell Structure Engraving】
【Description: The engraved spell structures determine the spell attributes and additional effects. The more spell structures engraved, the more types of spells the device can generate. Current maximum engraved spell structures: 3】
After reading the details page, she tapped her fingers lightly on the edge of the Moon Well.
Although this thing was called a "turret," it was completely different from the iron lumps mounted on city walls.
In essence, it was an automatic spell generation device. As long as it detected a hostile target entering its range, it would automatically generate and cast spells to attack according to the preset spell structures.
She had all the materials, but she had to be cautious about the spell structure engraving.
A single turret could only be engraved with three spell structures. These three spells had to support an entire defensive line, so they needed to be highly cost-effective. Ideally, they would consume minimal mana while dealing maximum damage.
She scrolled rapidly through her spell list, reviewing her commonly used spells one by one.
Considering the defensive layout of the entire territory, the four turrets had to ensure they each had a complete functional chain for independent combat, while also complementing one another.
Thus, the basic matching principle for the three spell structures was one single-target spell, one area-of-effect (AoE) spell, and one control spell.
The single-target spell would be used to snipe high-threat targets, while the AoE spell would clear out swarms of smaller monsters to maximize firepower coverage.
The control spell would stall the monsters rushing at the very front, creating the perfect setup for the AoE spells to deal concentrated damage, as well as buying buffer time in emergencies.
She ran through several combinations in her head and quickly made her choice.
Engraving a spell structure was slightly different from creating one. Creating involved building a structure within her own Mental Strength framework, whereas engraving was copying an existing spell structure onto another medium—a process much closer to tracing.
She was incredibly familiar with spell structures. After engraving all twelve spell structures, the Mental Strength she consumed was less than what it took to complete a single array.
The Elemental Turrets were ready to be built, but she needed to place the Sentry Towers first so that the turrets could be mounted directly on top of them.
【Sentry Tower (Lv.1)】
【Category: Defense Building】
【Effect: Increases the range and vision of stationed units by 50%】
【Height: 8 meters】
【Construction Materials: Moon-Silver Wood ×30, Iron Ore ×10】
Once she allocated the materials and placed them onto the construction blueprint, the system automatically began building.
The Moon-Silver Wood Sentry Towers slowly rose from the ground. They were four-sided, with windows on every side.
The top of each tower was a semi-open platform with a circular groove pre-carved into the floor, perfectly designed to fit the base of an Elemental Turret.
Once all four devices were in place, she opened the Moon Well's management interface and checked the four Elemental Turrets in the "Connected Buildings" list.
Silver-white beams of light shot out from the mouth of the Moon Well, gliding silently across the ground of the territory like four nimble silver serpents. They climbed up the Sentry Towers and plugged straight into the designated mana interfaces at the bases of the turrets.
【Connection successful!】
With her defenses secured, she sat on the edge of the Moon Well and flipped through her Inventory in a good mood.
The parchment labeled "Clue for Fragmented Notebook on Barrier Arrays of the Great Witch of the Starry Night (2)" was still resting quietly in the first slot of her Inventory.
She had been too busy when she first obtained it, but now, while waiting for the Sentry Towers and Elemental Turrets to finish building, was the perfect time to see what it was all about.
【Would you like to view the clue?】
She selected view.
The parchment automatically vanished from her hand, turning into a system prompt.
【Special quest triggered!】
