Wu Yao stared at the “Lv.1” on her panel, her lips curling upward uncontrollably.
She had leveled up!
She had finally leveled up!
Without hesitation, she spent her three free attribute points: one on Intelligence and the rest on Mana. These two attributes were currently her most cost-effective investments.
As for Strength, Agility, Constitution... who cared? She was now a noble witch capable of conjuring Fireballs with her bare hands. Did she really need to engage in hand-to-hand combat with common mobs?
With her attribute points allocated, she eagerly opened her system panel, where the newly unlocked feature icons were flashing continuously.
She rubbed her hands together. The features weren't going anywhere, but she had to loot the mobs first.
She had already taken the sword of that NPC whose name started with “Mar” or something, but there were bound to be other good things on them. She searched thoroughly.
A copper badge. After a moment of thought, Wu Yao cast Appraisal on it to test her new spell.
【Demon Hunter Badge: A round copper badge embossed with a crossed torch and chain, symbols of the “Purifying Fire” and “Shackling Evil.” A faint, blurred serial number is engraved on the back. Mired in verdigris and worn-out runes, it struggles to survive in the cracks of time, much like its wearer.】
The description was quite detailed, but it cost 10 Mana, meaning she couldn't just use it on everything.
She put a few silver coins into her Inventory. They didn't take up any slots, and the silver coin counter in the top-left corner of her Inventory changed to +4.
She searched some more and pulled a dagger from the inside of Marcus's boot.
【Fine Steel Dagger (Excellent): Physical Attack +8, Agility +2, guaranteed critical hit when dealing weakness damage.】
If this were any other game, she might have been happy. After all, the stats were decent and good enough for a beginner in the early game.
But she was already tired of those combat games. She was a prestigious witch now! How could she live up to her status if she didn't cast spells?
This dagger could stay in her Inventory for now.
【Inferior Healing Potion: Restores 20 Health Points.】
She held the bottle of inferior healing potion up to the moonlight and gave it a shake. Some undissolved sediment floated within the turbid green liquid.
“That's it?” Unable to find anything else, Wu Yao frowned and cursed the developers. “The drop rate is so low! Do you even know how to design a game?”
The young Ayden was even poorer, with pockets cleaner than his face. Aside from the crossbow and bolts she had been eyeing for a while, he only had a quiver with two bolts left. Fortunately, the crossbow's stats were decent, offering some consolation to her wounded heart.
【Demon-Sealing Crossbow (Excellent): Physical Attack +15, +10% damage to magical creatures, requires special bolts.】
【Demon-Sealing Bolt (Excellent): 30% chance to disrupt mana circulation.】
Wu Yao felt utterly hopeless about the professionalism of these game NPCs. She had originally wanted to strip the equipment off both of their bodies, but because this game was too realistic in terms of shared sensory feedback, she had to give up on those armor pieces with regret.
After putting everything into her Inventory, the total weight was only 7.2 kg. With the Inventory's -50% weight reduction trait, her maximum capacity was 40 kg, so she didn't have to worry about being unable to carry too many things for now.
After making sure she hadn't missed anything, she returned to their campsite. She was going to take the tent and everything inside it too!
After packing up her loot, she sat cross-legged by the fire. The campfire burned even brighter than before, its orange-red glow warming her up nicely. This was the perfect time to carefully study the newly unlocked system features.
First up was the one that completionist players cared about the most—the 【Compendium】!
The moment the interface opened, Wu Yao gasped.
Ten categorized compendiums unfolded before her eyes: Plant Compendium, Animal Compendium, Mineral Compendium, Magic Circle Compendium, Alchemy Compendium, Potion Compendium, Spell Compendium, Gourmet Compendium, Equipment Compendium, and Race Compendium. To make matters worse, opening any of them didn't even show the total number of entries!!!
Currently, she had lit up three entries under the 【Plant】 category:
【No.1 Spiky-Ball Grass】
【No.2 Pulp Grass】
【No.3 Wind-Crone Grass】
These were exactly the wild weeds she had plucked along the way.
A few entries were also lit up under the 【Race】, 【Spell】, and 【Equipment】 categories.
Wu Yao closed the Compendium interface and opened it again, then closed it and opened it once more. Confirming that she wasn't seeing things, she realized this was absolutely a massive conspiracy targeting completionists!
Wu Yao shook her fist at the campfire in deep distress.
No total entry count meant you would never know how far you were from completing the entire Compendium. Collecting without a target or direction was an intolerable atrocity to any completionist!
For a brief moment, Wu Yao wanted to log out of the game. With her personality, once she started something, she wouldn't want to stop.
Was she really going to dedicate her entire summer vacation to this predatory game...
“Damn it!” Wu Yao cast a Fireball at the sky. The fireball whooshed straight into the heavens, exploding in mid-air like a small, orange-red firework. “But who can say no to magic?!”
Anyway, she was lying in a holographic capsule and didn't need to worry about her physical safety. She would definitely show this game the ultimate dedication of a true gamer!
Full of ambition, she clicked on the constantly flashing Mailbox. Her closed beta gift pack had arrived, along with a letter from 【???】.
Oh, probably the development team.
Wu Yao skipped it directly. Gamers had zero interest in things that didn't offer rewards; she might as well unwrap her closed beta gift pack first.
【Congratulations! You have obtained Teleportation Runestone (Epic) x1, Basic Building Material Pack (contains 100 units of basic building materials) x1, Basic Ingredient Pack (contains 100 units of basic ingredients) x1, Moonlight Grass Seeds x10, and Silver Coins x100.】
【Congratulations! You have obtained the Title: The Eternal Moon.】
【The Eternal Moon (Legendary): You are the eternal moonlight of Elderan. All living beings shrouded under the moonlight shall respect and love you.】
The description was incredibly mysterious, so Wu Yao equipped it immediately. A faint crescent mark appeared next to her character name, flowing with subtle glimmers of light. It looked nice, and she was satisfied.
Finally, she opened her 【Log】, only to find the page completely blank. After refreshing it a few times, a system prompt popped up.
【The Log will update promptly at midnight every day.】
Wu Yao shrugged. Well, since the time hadn't come yet, she might as well complete the second quest first.
First, she needed to find a suitable location. Wu Yao looked left and right, thinking the land beneath her feet seemed pretty good.
【Placement failed. Cannot place on owned land!】
Wu Yao zoomed out her mini-map to the maximum, only to discover that there was absolutely no unclaimed land where she was. It all belonged to the Bront Territory.
“I knew the quest wouldn't be that easy...” Wu Yao muttered as she took out the epic item she had barely even warmed in her Inventory yet.
【Teleportation Runestone (Epic): Channel mana to teleport to a designated location.】
Reluctant to use it blindly, Wu Yao cast Appraisal on it. This was her very first epic item, even if it was highly likely a scripted tool given by the stingy development team.
【Teleportation Runestone (Epic): A faceted, greyish-blue crystal containing a solidified spatial fold within. It is said that during the Golden Age, grand witches who commanded the authority over “Space” could fold thousands of miles into a mere inch. Following the Witch Hunt, the last grand witch capable of crafting spatial runestones chose to “Return to the Moon.” Since then, the craft of spatial runestone making dissipated into the dust of history along with her silver glow.】
