Thump, thump, thump.
The sound of the snake's tail hitting the door was quite loud.
It even made one wonder if the door was about to be smashed to pieces.
The little sparrows at her side chirped for Su Qing to knock more gently, afraid she would knock the door down.
Su Qing was a little helpless; she was already controlling her strength.
She had reason to suspect that the quality of the door to the Cave of the Three Stars wasn't very good.
However, perhaps it was thanks to the force of Su Qing's knocking.
Before long, a Daoist acolyte rushed out in a hurry.
"Who is knocking here! Are you trying to knock down the door to our monastery?"
The acolyte in green robes, holding a horsetail whisk, said anxiously:
"Stop, stop! I'm coming, I'm coming. Any more knocking and the door will really break!"
Hearing the commotion, Su Qing stopped...
She was also afraid of breaking the door.
The acolyte walked out from behind the door.
He took one look and saw that the one knocking was actually a large green snake.
He couldn't help but be startled.
But he was a cultivator, after all.
He had seen all sorts of things...
He quickly calmed down.
He formed a Daoist hand seal and said:
"Fellow Daoist Snake, what business do you have knocking at this hour?"
Seeing that Su Qing had no hostile intent, the acolyte naturally spoke in a friendlier tone.
Su Qing retreated slightly, coiled her tail, and said:
"Senior Brother, I have come to seek tutelage under Patriarch Bodhi. I ask that you please go in and announce me."
Hearing this, the acolyte was clearly stunned.
A large green snake has come here to seek tutelage under the Patriarch?
This was a bit too strange.
"Seek tutelage?"
"Yes, seek tutelage!"
"..." For a moment, the acolyte was speechless, wondering how to refuse her tactfully.
But on second thought, he realized he wasn't qualified to make decisions on his master's behalf.
So he said, "I will announce you, but the Master is most likely asleep at this hour. Why don't you come back tomorrow?"
"Is that so... Alright then!"
Hearing this, Su Qing nodded.
Although she felt that immortals didn't need to sleep, who knew if Patriarch Bodhi had a habit of sleeping early and rising early?
In any case, it was just one more day to wait, no big deal.
"Mm, then when Fellow Daoist Snake comes tomorrow, remember to knock a little more gently."
Seeing how agreeable Su Qing was, the acolyte also breathed a sigh of relief.
"Okay," Su Qing nodded.
The acolyte then closed the door and returned to the monastery.
After the acolyte left, the little sparrows gathered around, chirping away.
Some comforted Su Qing.
Others felt indignant on her behalf, thinking the acolyte was deceiving her.
Su Qing looked at them and flicked her tongue.
She said, "It's fine. It's only for one night."
Su Qing was very philosophical about it...
She had already waited for so long.
Could she not wait for one more night?
Su Qing didn't plan on going anywhere. She coiled up right at the entrance, planning to sleep there for the night.
The little sparrows saw how calm Su Qing was.
They stopped their noisy chirping and quickly quieted down.
After a while, the little sparrows, tired from flying all day, landed one by one on Su Qing's head.
Before long, they were huddled together, fast asleep.
After the acolyte returned to the monastery.
He quickly went to Patriarch Bodhi's hall and saw that the lights were still on.
He then reported everything about Su Qing to Patriarch Bodhi in detail.
"Mm, I know... You may go back now."
After listening with a neutral expression, Patriarch Bodhi dismissed the acolyte.
The acolyte couldn't figure out the Patriarch's thoughts and could only return obediently.
As for whether the Patriarch would accept Su Qing, that was the Patriarch's business.
He was just an acolyte; there was no need to worry too much about it.
The next day.
Su Qing woke up early.
She raised her head to look at the closed main gate, her mind calm, waiting for it to open.
To be honest, Su Qing didn't know if Patriarch Bodhi would accept her as a disciple.
But since she had come, she couldn't just give up so easily.
As she was thinking.
The closed main gate suddenly opened.
It was yesterday's acolyte again.
The acolyte flicked his horsetail whisk and said, "Fellow Daoist Snake... please come in! The Master said he wishes to see you."
The acolyte still didn't know what his master was thinking...
He had thought that his master sending him away meant he was preparing to turn the green snake away.
But early this morning, his master had sent him a message via voice transmission to let the green snake in.
The acolyte couldn't understand the affairs of his elders.
He just followed orders.
"Thank you..."
"No need to thank me... It was nothing."
Hearing that Patriarch Bodhi was willing to see her, Su Qing couldn't help but sigh in relief.
Although it wasn't a guaranteed success, this was at least the first step.
She hadn't been turned away at the door.
The acolyte walked in front, Su Qing followed behind, and the few sparrows chirped in the air.
"These sparrows with you are quite interesting, Fellow Daoist."
The acolyte couldn't help but say as he looked at the sparrows.
He could also tell that these sparrows had gained spiritual awareness.
"As long as Senior Brother doesn't find them noisy. These little ones are simple-minded and kind, just a bit talkative."
Su Qing flicked her tongue, complaining a bit about the sparrows.
Although, it was thanks to the company of these little ones that she wasn't lonely on her journey.
But these little ones really did talk a lot...
Once they started, they couldn't stop.
"Not noisy at all, not at all! I just find them very cute."
The acolyte shook his head and said.
Anyone would be fond of such little creatures that have gained spiritual intelligence.
Besides, he couldn't understand what the sparrows were saying, so naturally, he didn't find them noisy.
Their chirping was actually quite pleasant to listen to.
"That's good."
Su Qing flicked her tongue.
Her ears were filled with the dissatisfied chirps of the little sparrows.
Apparently, they were a little unhappy about Su Qing complaining that they were talkative.
Su Qing listened but paid them no mind, just thinking that with these little ones accompanying her, even if she couldn't become a disciple, her future wouldn't be lonely.
They walked, one after the other.
Soon, they arrived in front of a large hall.
The acolyte bowed to the hall, then led Su Qing inside.
Inside the hall, an old man was seated.
The old man's clothes were quite simple, but he had the air of an immortal and the demeanor of a reclusive master.
Needless to say, Su Qing knew that the person before her was the legendary Patriarch Bodhi.
As expected, upon seeing the old man, the acolyte said:
"Master... I have brought the green snake."
Hearing this, Patriarch Bodhi slowly opened his eyes. After sizing up Su Qing, he couldn't help but nod.
"Not bad... You may leave us now."
Patriarch Bodhi said to the acolyte.
The acolyte didn't think much of it; what happened next was not something he could meddle in.
He bowed to the Patriarch, turned, and left.
Thus, only Su Qing and the few sparrows by her side were left in the hall.
"Greetings, Patriarch Bodhi!" Su Qing thought she shouldn't let the atmosphere become awkward, so she spoke up.
Hearing this, Bodhi nodded slightly and asked, "I ask you, why do you wish to take me as your master?"
Su Qing knew it would be these questions again, so she honestly stated her thoughts.
Patriarch Bodhi listened to Su Qing's words, staring at her quietly.
It was unclear what he was thinking in his heart...
"Never mind. Since you have endured many hardships to come here... it would be too unreasonable of me not to accept you. From now on, you shall stay by my side and cultivate..."
