“Great! With these weapons, we don't have to fear the lord's lackeys anymore!”
“Yeah, we can finally fight back! Everyone, head deeper inside and look for ammunition!”
...
Unlike the others in the crowd who were moved to tears, Xian Xiao'ai kept up her cheering while slowly edging toward the exit.
The unease in her heart grew stronger, bordering on a faint trace of dread.
When things went this smoothly, there was bound to be a catch.
Grandma, as a Transcendent of 【Trickery】, had often taught her these lessons.
At this thought, Xian Xiao'ai no longer cared about these people. As long as she could escape, nothing else mattered!
Stepping quickly to the door, Xian Xiao'ai cautiously peeked outside. Just then, a faint, eerie voice rang out!
“Where do you think you're going?”
Xian Xiao'ai snapped her head up.
A black-robed figure stood there, casually tapping a rubber baton against his palm, looking down at her. It was Bai Xiaodu!
His spaceship had been hidden nearby all along, waiting for this mob of unruly citizens to file inside. Behind him stood a massive, dense crowd of people clad in tactical gear, looking fierce and murderous.
Seeing her remain silent, Bai Xiaodu coldly sized up Xian Xiao'ai. From the drone footage, this young girl had been one of the ringleaders at the front of the procession.
Feeling the faint, suffocating pressure radiating from him, Xian Xiao'ai forced down her terror and slowly backed away.
Inside the warehouse, the crowd quickly noticed the disturbance. Several sturdy lizardmen immediately rushed over, pulling Xian Xiao'ai behind them as they glared warily at Bai Xiaodu.
They, too, saw the menacing army of civil service hopefuls behind Bai Xiaodu and immediately began to shout.
“Who are you people? What are you doing here?”
“Everyone, come quick! That damned lord is trying to bully us commoners again!”
More and more lizardmen rushed over with guns in hand, aiming them at Bai Xiaodu at the entrance.
Xian Xiao'ai rejoiced inwardly, but she kept up her tearful, sobbing act.
The aura radiating from Bai Xiaodu convinced her that he was either the lord himself or a close confidant. You couldn't just kill someone like this outright. She had to find a way to provoke him into a slaughter, then use the Federation's laws to deal with him!
She would have to sacrifice these villagers, but it was all for the sake of the great Dragon Clan. Their deaths would not be in vain!
With that in mind, Xian Xiao'ai wept even more pitifully, tears streaming down her face.
“Uncle Mu, Brother Hanshi! It's my fault for offending this lord. It's all my fault. Please, just leave!”
Her fragile appearance instantly provoked public outrage! A large group of lizardmen raised their weapons, roaring at the civil service hopefuls.
“Dammit! You cowards who bully the weak and fear the strong, if you've got the guts, come at us! Why take it out on a little girl?”
“Let me tell you, robe-wearer! We have guns, we aren't afraid of you! Cross us, and we'll blow you sky-high with a cannon!”
Meanwhile, the civil service hopefuls handpicked by Bai Xiaodu were certainly no pushovers. Coming from all walks of life, they were a rough-and-tumble crowd who feared nothing. How could they tolerate such insults?
“Commander, please don't waste any more breath on them! If they dare to point guns at us today, they'll dare to march on Tiannan Star tomorrow. Let's make our move!”
“To dare raid the armory, they are no longer ordinary citizens. We must strike hard!”
For a moment, tempers flared on both sides, and the tension was palpable.
Bai Xiaodu simply pressed his hands down and said calmly, “Quiet.”
The moment the word left his mouth, a howling gale of pale-green wind surged through the entrance, sweeping across the entire area. A massive, oppressive pressure bore down, roaring through the empty granary.
The aggressive leaders at the very front instantly collapsed, tumbling head over heels and completely exposing Xian Xiao'ai, who was still trying to back away!
Taking long, sweeping strides, Bai Xiaodu was in front of her in a matter of seconds.
Panic seized Xian Xiao'ai, but she forced herself to stay calm. She was outwardly just a little lizard-kin girl. No matter how brutally he suppressed the crowd, surely he wouldn't target her. At worst, he would kick her a few times and tell her to scram.
Sure enough, the Bai Xiaodu in front of her spoke once more.
“I never beat the elderly or children.”
Upon hearing this, Xian Xiao'ai felt immensely relieved, while the civil service hopefuls behind Bai Xiaodu exchanged bewildered glances.
Someone clenched their fists tightly, sighed, and let them go. Even though he became a lord, at his age, he was still just an immature kid. If he couldn't bring himself to be ruthless now, those unruly mobs would only walk all over him.
Bai Xiaodu turned around and tossed the baton backward. Lott, quick on his feet, stepped forward to catch it.
His expression was somewhat disappointed. “Then, Commander Jing, should we find a place to negotiate next...”
Bai Xiaodu waved his hand impatiently. “Negotiate my foot! Who got me this baton? It's way too light, has absolutely no heft to it. Get me a metal one. Preferably with spikes on the end. The heavier, the better. Hurry up and bring it to me!”
While Lott was still dazed, the civil service hopefuls reacted instantly. “Yes, Commander!”
Within moments, a heavy, spiked metal club gleaming with a cold sheen was placed in Bai Xiaodu's hand. He patted it with satisfaction, nodded, took a step forward, and instantly reappeared in front of Xian Xiao'ai.
Realizing what Bai Xiaodu was about to do, Xian Xiao'ai turned deathly pale and shrieked, “You said you don't beat the elderly or children!”
Bai Xiaodu chuckled. “And what kind of elderly person do you think you are?”
With that, Bai Xiaodu's upper body twisted, storing power as the muscles on his arms bulged. The heavy club swung through the air, leaving a blur in its wake as the wind howled!
“Up you go!”
The next moment, a loud crack echoed! Everyone present watched as a gray shadow, like a baseball struck with full force, crashed straight through the roof and soared into the sky, leaving a trail of shrill screams in her wake!
Everyone on the scene stared, dumbfounded.
The lizardmen never expected Bai Xiaodu to be so ruthless! The civil service hopefuls never expected Bai Xiaodu to be such an absolute menace!
Yet, the eyes of most of the hopefuls lit up. This was great! It looked like they had backed the right boss!
Bai Xiaodu couldn't care less about what they thought. Blood slowly dripped from his spiked club. He raised the weapon and shouted at the top of his lungs.
“I hereby declare! The First High City All-Citizen Unlimited Free Fighting Tournament has officially begun!”
He was the first to charge through the door. The civil service hopefuls let out a roar of agreement and charged in behind him.
“Guns! Shoot them, quickly!”
Chaos erupted instantly. A lizardman who had grabbed a gun frantically raised the barrel and pulled the trigger, aiming a burst at the advancing Bai Xiaodu.
Click, click, click, click...
He shrieked in despair, “Why the hell are there no bullets in this gun?!”
