As an ordinary person, Freya had to withdraw from the battlefield once the fighting broke out, hiding far away. In fact, because of her presence, the King had to dispatch two Rank Four extraordinaries from his Royal Guard to protect her, which could be considered a slight, indirect reduction of the King's forces.
However, it was only two Rank Fours. The King's side still had the numerical advantage, so they should have had the upper hand no matter how the battle played out. A minor deficit like that was trivial... At least, that was what everyone on the King's side thought before the battle began.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Various extraordinary abilities clashed continuously, tearing the entire street apart in the blink of an eye. Then, courtesy of someone's unknown extraordinary ability, a building alongside the street instantly exploded into fine powder.
Fortunately, Trig had evacuated all the civilians in the surrounding area before the battle started. Otherwise, the shockwaves from just this initial clash alone would have claimed countless lives.
It was no exaggeration to say that once an extraordinary reached Rank Six, they possessed the power to destroy an entire city single-handedly. Although different pathways might take more or less time depending on their destructive capabilities, wiping out a city was by no means a difficult feat for them.
However, this was currently the capital of the Kingdom of Tarapaca. Neither His Majesty nor Trig wished to see the city destroyed, so both sides deliberately held back during the fight, doing their best to minimize collateral damage.
Truth be told, Freya was not very clear on what the high-rank abilities of the Law Pathway were. Moreover, whether it was an Arbiter or a Punisher, their abilities seemed to lean toward the intangible. For instance, Trig was definitely utilizing his distortion ability constantly, but Freya had absolutely no idea what exactly he was distorting.
Thus, even though she had been watching the intense clash for quite some time, she failed to glean any useful information.
The only particularly eye-catching detail was that many of the nobles in the King's camp would occasionally throw out small crystals. These items unleashed various visually spectacular attacks, such as flames, lightning, and exploding spiked stone spheres with power comparable to cannonballs.
These were all products of a Scholar—specifically, consumable extraordinary items brought over by Euphy's grandfather, Augustus. The flames originated from the Sun Pathway, the lightning from the Ocean Pathway, and the stone spheres from the Earth Pathway. Each crystal was equivalent to a Full-Force Strike from a Rank Four of the respective pathway, with some higher-quality ones even reaching the level of Rank Five.
Best of all, these items could be activated and thrown instantly with virtually no consumption of spirituality, and they had them in large quantities. Thus, when the King's camp began utilizing these items in bulk, the scales of battle temporarily tipped in their favor. However, their good fortune did not last. In the next instant, Kuro made her move. She darted across the battlefield, and the moment anyone produced one of these items, she would immediately steal it.
In a sense, the Trick Pathway was a hard counter to the Scholar Pathway, particularly the Artisan class advancement. Artisans spent painstaking effort crafting various extraordinary items, which theoretically allowed them to handle almost any situation through a vast and comprehensive arsenal. Yet, these items were ultimately external objects, and someone from the Trick Pathway could easily swipe them all in passing.
Even if these extraordinary items had binding effects, it was useless. A powerful extraordinary of the Trick Pathway could steal even conceptual things like the 【bound owner】. For example, in the last simulation, hadn't Kuro stolen that lightning spear right out of Jessica's hands?
Consequently, most of these extraordinary items originally meant to deal with the rebels ended up in Kuro's pockets. She then distributed them to the rebels, who in turn began using these very items against the nobles of the King's camp.
The more Freya watched, the more she felt the situation was taking a turn for the worse. Could the King... actually be unable to defeat Trig?
Even with advance preparation, a mobilized army, and the advantage of launching a proactive strike, he still couldn't match Trig in raw power?!
Wasn't this a bit too ridiculous?
As the saying goes, when a person hopes for something good, it might not happen; but when they anticipate the worst, it almost certainly will.
The King's noble forces were quickly pushed into a retreat. As more and more of them fell, the remaining nobles' will to fight plummeted. These ordinary nobles were far less loyal than one might have imagined.
Meanwhile, the battle between the King and Trig was exceptionally brutal. The King was certainly no match for Trig on his own, so he had many others—a total of ten Rank Five extraordinaries—sieging Trig alongside him.
Yet, eight of those Rank Five nobles had already perished, leaving only two still standing. The King himself was covered in wounds. Of course, Trig was not having an easy time either; his right arm had completely vanished, and his face was pale—a clear sign of excessive spirituality consumption.
Seeing this, Freya couldn't help but think: Wait, is there still a chance? Maybe they can win?
Then, in the very next second, the King's entire body exploded. Right before everyone's eyes, he disintegrated into a mist of blood, dying in the most horrific manner imaginable.
Freya couldn't help but sigh in her heart: Well, we're doomed.
With the King dead, many of the nobles immediately surrendered and defected, raising their hands and crying out:
“We surrender!”
“Stop fighting! Stop fighting!”
Naturally, a few genuinely loyal nobles of the royalist faction cursed these turncoats and continued to resist, but they were quickly cut down. The battle turned into a complete rout.
As for Freya, she clearly saw Trig glance in her direction. The Royal Guard soldiers tasked with protecting her said, “Your Highness, we will cover your retreat!”
Freya quietly replied, “Forget it. I don't think there's any need to retreat.”
She then swiftly ended the simulation, fearing that if she delayed by even a step, Trig would casually crush her to death. It was no exaggeration to say that this simulation had once again forced Freya to re-evaluate Trig. This guy was simply a freak of nature. How on earth was he so powerful?!
Then again, it made sense upon closer reflection. It was precisely because Trig was so strong that he was able to lead the Kingdom of Tarapaca to such heights of power in the timeline ten years later.
【Simulation complete. Duration: four days. Save this slot?】
Freya casually selected 【No】 and blinked. Time had now returned to the moment before she met with the King. In truth, she didn't even need to go see the King anymore, since she had already obtained the intelligence she needed.
Still... she was the one who had initiated the meeting. If she backed out now and stood the King up, the consequences would probably be severe.
