Time passed slowly, and Trig's plan steadily progressed. With Law Freya joining him and providing crucial intelligence, the entire operation became even smoother.
Furthermore, those blindly loyal nobles who originally had to be executed no longer needed to die, as the plan had shifted from Trig usurping the throne to Law Freya succeeding it.
By the tenth day, everything was ready. This time, Law Freya and Trig went to the royal palace together and stood before the King.
The King's initial reaction to Trig's sudden visit was naturally confusion, which only deepened when he saw Law Freya accompanying him.
Trig bowed slightly to show a final gesture of respect, then spoke. “Your Majesty, I have a very important matter to discuss with you.”
Seeing Trig so serious, the King's expression grew solemn. “What is it?”
Trig said, “It concerns your abdication.”
The King: “?”
It must be said that after hearing these words, the King froze in sheer disbelief for several seconds. He stared wide-eyed at Trig before turning his head to look at Law Freya beside him.
Law Freya chose this moment to speak up. “Please abdicate, Father. You have done enough for this nation, and it is time for you to rest. You can safely leave the rest to me.”
However, to Law Freya's surprise, the King did not show any anger in the face of this situation. Instead, he appeared remarkably calm. He looked at Law Freya and asked, “Are you my child?”
Law Freya replied, “Biologically speaking, yes.”
The King asked again, “How old are you this year?”
Law Freya said, “Seventeen.”
The King asked, “And your current strength?”
Law Freya replied, “A Rank Five Arbiter. Once I decree a law and complete the ritual, I can advance to Rank Six.”
The King murmured, “A Rank Six at seventeen...”
As he spoke, he actually covered his forehead with his right hand and began to laugh. Then, he declared loudly, “Good! Excellent!”
Now it was Law Freya's turn to be surprised. Confused, she asked, “You aren't angry?”
The King laughed. “Angry? Perhaps a little, but more than that, I feel relieved, happy, and proud. My child, you are more outstanding than I am. So what harm is there in letting you have this seat?”
In truth, the King knew very well that he had no choice. He understood Trig too well; Trig standing here meant he had already made all the necessary preparations. If the King agreed, it would be a normal, dignified abdication. If he refused, he would only be forced to abdicate after a fight. The only difference was whether he would get beaten up first.
In the King's eyes, this kingdom was his family property. In the previous simulations, Trig had come to seize his property, so he had naturally fought to the death. But now, this property was simply being inherited by his own child—and an incredibly outstanding one at that. The nature of the situation was entirely different.
A Rank Five at seventeen years old! Moreover, she had risen from an ordinary person to Rank Five in just a few days, with only one step left to reach Rank Six. Calling her a genius was an understatement.
Indeed, the King recognized that the Law Freya before him was the same Freya who had visited him a few days ago. The reason was simple: her age.
Though it was somewhat embarrassing to admit, the King clearly remembered all his youthful indiscretions. Exactly seventeen years ago, he had slept with someone, meaning he could only possibly have one seventeen-year-old child.
Furthermore, although Law Freya's hair color, eye color, attire, and overall aura had changed, she was still fundamentally Freya. He could still catch faint glimpses of her original self.
Previously, the King had found it incredibly strange that Freya had sought him out, confirmed their blood relation, and yet asked for absolutely no benefits. For any ordinary person, this would have been a golden opportunity to climb the social ladder.
Looking at it now, compared to the throne itself, those minor benefits were completely negligible.
The King looked at Trig and said, “However, can you satisfy a bit of my curiosity before we proceed? I would really like to know, Trig, how long have you been planning this?”
Given the King's understanding of Trig, this coup could not have been planned in just a few days. It had to date back a very long time—months, or perhaps even years—and was only being executed now.
And indeed, that was the case. Trig replied, “One year and one month, Your Majesty. And to be completely honest, I originally intended to use bloody means and take the throne myself. But just a few days ago, Miss Kelydla approached me and changed my mind. I believe she will make a very suitable monarch.”
“Kelydla?” the King murmured, looking at Law Freya. A moment later, his smile grew even wider. “I have no further objections. My child, you will become the youngest monarch in the history of this kingdom—no, perhaps the youngest monarch in the history of the entire world.”
The name “Kelydla” that Trig used clearly referred to Law Freya, but the King knew her real name was Freya. Or perhaps Freya was the pseudonym? Either way, it no longer mattered.
Piecing together Trig's words, Kelydla had suddenly appeared just as Trig was about to complete his plan, successfully convincing him and snatching the prize right out from under him.
The King's abdication made it look like he had lost. But in reality, in the King's eyes, Trig was the true loser. Trig had planned for so long, yet in the end, wasn't a member of the Lawrence family still taking the throne?
Or rather, both the King and Trig had lost. The sole victor was this seventeen-year-old girl. She had played both a King and a Prime Minister like puppets, effortlessly ascending to the pinnacle of power in this nation!
This was truly... incredible!
Even the King could not help but feel curious about what this nation would become under the rule of this “Kelydla.”
The King waved his hand, and a blank contract appeared out of thin air before him. Word by word, text materialized on the parchment, quickly drafting an abdication agreement that designated Law Freya as his successor. Without hesitation, he signed his name on it.
When it was Law Freya's turn, the King added, “As long as it is signed by your own hand, it will take effect.”
At first listen, the statement sounded somewhat cryptic, but Law Freya instantly understood his meaning. It meant “any name she signed would work,” rather than “she must sign her real name.”
In other words, whether she wrote Freya or Kelydla, the contract would take effect.
Law Freya couldn't help but steal another glance at the King. If that was the case, the King likely knew she was Freya, but he would certainly never speak of it.
Because in the King's eyes, Law Freya was on his side. Meanwhile, in Trig's eyes, Law Freya was on his side.
