Without saving this slot, Freya casually selected cancel and fell into silent thought.
Seeing Freya suddenly daze out while eating, Euphy couldn't help but ask, “Is something wrong?”
Freya said, “Actually, I just used my ability to enter the future, but what happened in that future... was a bit exaggerated.”
Because she had been kicked out too suddenly, the Euphy in this simulation hadn't left behind any diary or anything similar for Freya, so Freya could only recount what had happened in the simulation verbally.
She started from the moment they gathered to fight Luna, the true mastermind behind the scenes, briefly describing the battle, and then how Luna used his ability in an attempt to rewind time, only for time to jump ten years into the future instead.
By the time Freya finished her explanation, about half an hour had passed, and this time, it was Euphy's turn to stare in a daze. “Wait, what do you mean by 【the day before 1151 was 1161】?”
“What do you mean I've been dead for ten years?”
“The Kingdom of Tarapaca reverse-annexed the Fanipaca Empire? Are you serious?!”
No wonder Freya used the word “exaggerated” to describe it. Every single one of these events was incredibly absurd. Freya said, “Euphy, do you think there's some kind of extraordinary ability that can reverse time, and the timeline we are currently in is already the result of a modification?”
Euphy shook her head. “I don't know, but if there really is, then the person who used this extraordinary ability... no, the entity capable of using such an ability must be incredibly powerful. Rank Eight? Or even stronger?”
“But putting that aside for a moment, I think I have a clue about your mysterious little ability, Fufu. This is likely a high-level ability from the Prophet class advancement of the Destiny Pathway.”
“A Memory Thief gains the ability to Dive into the Past at Rank Five. So, conversely, does a Prophet gain the ability to enter the future at Rank Five?”
“But Fufu, you can bring things back from the future and even create clones, so you should be stronger than Rank Five. Could it be Rank Six? Or... Rank Seven? But since you are currently an ordinary person who can drink potions from other pathways, how could you possess such a high-ranking Prophet ability?”
Now Euphy felt as if she had uncovered some secrets, only to find that the mysteries had multiplied instead.
Freya shook her head. “I don't know.”
But involuntarily, the old butler's last words surfaced in Freya's mind—the demigod of Destiny. The moment they started talking about this demigod, she was kicked right out of the simulation. If anyone tried to tell her that was a coincidence, she certainly wouldn't believe them.
Freya currently had two hypotheses. First, her 'system' had detected a threat. For example, if knowing the other party's name would draw their attention, the system itself might be detected, triggering an emergency disconnect function that kicked her out.
Second, this system of hers might have been bestowed by that very entity, and this demigod didn't want her to realize His existence yet, so He manually kicked her out.
Freya didn't know which possibility was more likely, but neither the first nor the second seemed very reassuring. The former meant the system was far less powerful than she had imagined, equivalent to a Rank Six or Rank Seven extraordinary ability at best.
As for the latter, it meant Freya had been targeted by a powerful entity long ago. No matter how she looked at it, that was definitely not a good thing!
After the incident with Jerome, having a Rank Five and a Rank Four clone made her feel quite strong, to be honest. This had led Freya to slack off, attending classes at the academy normally for a month before going on a trip with Euphy during the holidays. Her original intention was just to investigate the matters of Countless Blessings and Countless Resentments.
Instead, she kept uncovering more and more secrets. First was the constant luck, and now she had realized the possibilities that 【the system might not be very strong】 and 【she might have been targeted by a powerhouse】. A sense of urgency immediately washed over her.
Perhaps she needed to find a way to quickly increase her strength again. A Rank Five and a Rank Four were far from enough.
Euphy said at this moment, “I'll find a way to look up some information later. Since the Prophet, Memory Thief, and Navigator pathways are all related to time, hopefully, I can find something about your mysterious little ability, and... why the future is in the past.”
Putting this topic aside for now, Euphy asked, “So, what do you plan to do about Luna?”
This guy was very strong, a dual-pathway Rank Five with a fusion ability. If Luna hadn't realized he was in a simulation and used his ability, which ultimately sent him ten years into the future, Freya's side really wouldn't have been able to defeat him if the battle had continued.
Freya said, “I think I can enter the future again and give it another try to see if I can convince Captain Joan to launch a direct attack on him.”
After all, a Moon Sting was extremely skilled at sneak attacks. While their strength didn't drop drastically in a head-on battle, they were certainly far less effective than when launching a surprise attack when the opponent was already alert.
Even so, Joan and her squad were still the ones who dealt the most damage to Luna during the entire battle. If Captain Joan were to initiate a sneak attack, maybe they could take him down directly before Luna could react and activate his ability?
Euphy said, “Then how do you plan to gain her trust? Without any evidence or confirmation that Luna is the mastermind, I don't think she would launch a sneak attack on a mere ‘suspect’.”
Freya said, “Hmm... What if I reveal a secret of hers that only a tiny number of people know? Do you think that might convince her?”
Freya was referring to the fact that when Joan first joined the Shadow of the Empire, she was still a cute, soft little girl who had a crush on her superior.
Needless to say, if this actually worked, it would mean Luna was once again suffering because of his own inner desires.
But Euphy said, “Will that... really work?”
Freya said, “Probably? After all, isn't that how I gained your trust in the beginning?”
Euphy remained silent, because back then, she hadn't trusted Freya completely just because of that single sentence. Afterward, Freya had also produced the reply from Euphy's grandfather and the occult array written in Euphy's own handwriting. Those two items had been crucial as well.
Besides that, there was another reason... Freya was very cute.
It was a bit of a case of the small head controlling the big head, so to speak.
Therefore, trust was something that needed to be built and accumulated over time; it was impossible to gain absolute trust just by revealing a secret. As a captain, Joan would definitely be more cautious than a free agent like Euphy. After all, Joan alone represented the entire Mobile Squad, and even the Shadow of the Empire.
Euphy felt the probability wasn't very high, but Freya said, “Anyway, it's just in a false future. Trying it won't hurt.”
Just like that, an hour passed. Since the last simulation had taken very little time, the cooldown had refreshed very quickly, and Freya entered the future simulation once again.
The chosen save slot was still Life Freya. Just like the last simulation, she called Victor to help, and the three of them headed straight to the local main police station.
But Freya had forgotten one thing. In the last simulation, she had arrived at the police station just as Joan and the others were preparing to investigate the case. Arriving an hour later this time meant they had missed Joan.
Looking at the ordinary police officer in front of her, Freya couldn't help but ask, “Do you know where Captain Joan and her team are right now?”
The officer wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. “How would I know? I'm just an ordinary person. Captain Joan wouldn't inform me of her destination in advance when she goes out on a mission.”
“Well...” Freya wore a helpless expression. There was nothing she could do about it, but since she had already entered the simulation, she couldn't just do nothing. Thus, Freya thought for a moment: why not find Luna first and see if she could gather some evidence to prepare for convincing Captain Joan in the next simulation?
And so, the three of them headed to the Mind Research Association. Just as they arrived at the entrance, before they could even go inside, Freya saw Luna walking out.
Victor looked at him. “Is that him? The mastermind behind the rampaging extraordinaries you two just mentioned?”
Freya nodded. However, just as she was about to say something, a sudden shiver of dread descended upon everyone's hearts.
Riiip—
Accompanied by a sharp, indescribable tearing sound, the space where Luna stood was torn open like a piece of paper by some entity's bare hands, revealing an unstable, diamond-shaped rift!
An indescribably massive surge of spirituality gushed out of this rift like a burst dam. Normally, spirituality was an invisible, intangible special energy, but because this energy was so colossal, it even affected the physical world, bringing with it a howling gale.
Freya opened her eyes in astonishment. Under her Heart Perception, the entrance of the Mind Research Association and half the street had already been flooded by this spirituality, rendering her Heart Perception view completely blue and blinding her.
Upon opening her eyes, she could see that the other side of this torn diamond-shaped space was also a dreamlike, deep blue. Vaguely, she seemed to see something moving within it.
“What on earth is...?”
To everyone's shock, this diamond-shaped space disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. In less than three seconds, it began to shrink, and within five seconds, it vanished completely, leaving behind only a scattering of spirituality crystals and Luna's severed corpse—no, calling it a severed corpse was generous; to be precise, only two legs remained.
Victor exclaimed, “Holy crap! What the hell was that?!”
Euphemia was also stunned for a moment before saying, “Is that... the spirit world?”
The spirit world was a realm that complemented the normal world. It was entirely composed of spirituality and inhabited by all sorts of bizarre spirit world creatures. Euphemia's previously summoned carrier pigeon was one of them.
Euphemia said, “Using space itself as a means of attack... did a high-ranking extraordinary of the Travel Pathway make a move?”
The Travel Pathway was highly related to and bound with the spirit world, with the vast majority of its abilities connected to it. Practitioners didn't even need a class advancement to gain the ability to physically enter the spirit world at Rank Three.
It was worth mentioning that while the spirit world was filled with spirituality, this spirituality was different from the mana pool inside an extraordinary's body. The spirituality in the spirit world was chaotic and disorganized. Far from being absorbed or utilized, simply staying near it was extremely dangerous for both ordinary people and extraordinaries.
If an ordinary person were thrown into the spirit world, they would die in less than a minute. If an ordinary extraordinary were thrown in, they would be gradually contaminated until they finally lost control and turned into a monster.
Only the Travel Pathway possessed specialized extraordinary abilities to shield against the chaotic spirituality of the spirit world and protect oneself. Even so, Travel Pathway extraordinaries could not stay in the spirit world for long; it was simply too dangerous.
Looking at this scene, Freya felt somewhat helpless. Seriously, Luna... how did he just drop dead on his own?
Chronologically speaking, during Freya's first simulation, she had set off immediately, found Captain Joan, headed to the Mind Research Association to fight Luna, and was kicked out of the simulator in under two hours.
In this second simulation, because she had waited for the cooldown and then spent some time looking for Captain Joan only to find her missing, by the time she arrived at the Mind Research Association, it was around the same time she had been kicked out of the first simulation.
Didn't that mean fighting Luna in the first simulation was completely pointless? Once she returned to reality, Freya wouldn't have to do anything at all. She would just need to wait, and after a while, Luna would drop dead on his own, casually taken out by some Travel Pathway powerhouse from who-knows-where?
Victor said at this moment, “Well, he wasn't a good person anyway, doing all kinds of evil deeds daily. It's only normal that he accidentally provoked some big shot.”
“You might be strong, but there will always be someone stronger and more powerful than you, so luck is very important. Take me, for instance. I might have average strength and not be very impressive, but I never run into anyone stronger than me. Tsk, tsk, tsk~”
However, the three of them could never have guessed that the powerhouse Luna had provoked was not of the Travel Pathway, but rather the Destiny Pathway.
Luck could be inherited. This was also why, during the first simulation, even though the white-haired girl had clearly said Luna would be torn apart by a rift in the spirit world, she still let the white snake kill him.
Because Luna was killed by the white snake in the simulation and did not die from the spirit world rift, the event the white-haired girl spoke of did not occur. However, the ability had already been activated. Thus, this event that was supposed to happen in the simulation but didn't ended up manifesting in reality.
