Chapter 16 | My Avatar Is Becoming a God

Xu Mo sat cross-legged on the table, one hand casually pinning a foreman’s head down while he spoke with an air of indifference.

“Heh... gah...” The foreman’s body struggled instinctively, letting out broken, rattling gasps.

Annoyed by the sound, Xu Mo applied more pressure, and the noise vanished completely.

“Tsk, this body really isn't up to par. I couldn't even crush him in one go...”

“You should have heard everything I said just now. The background you wanted to know is basically that. You can fill in the blanks yourself.”

Xu Mo directed these words to Bai Feifei within his mind.

His earlier rambling served two purposes: it gave him time to eat, and it allowed him to use these thugs to explain the situation to Bai Feifei.

The Black Smoke Coal Mine was the largest coal mine on the outskirts of Dawn City and the primary energy supplier for the Inner City. Naturally, the influence behind it was a tangled web of complexity.

Beyond the vast sums of money and interests involved, there were many other things hidden within.

The oppression of the Outer City miners went without saying, but more importantly, there were cult rituals and operations designed to satisfy the twisted desires of certain Inner City elites.

According to Xu Mo’s memory, they were also researching a special aberration potion that could transform living beings—and even some inanimate objects—into aberrations.

Of course, Xu Mo had never cared about such things.

It was just background lore in a game; what did it have to do with him? All he knew was that this made the area an excellent place to farm low-level mobs for experience in the early game.

Coming here to pick a fight and kill a few minor villains was simply a way to lure out more enemies.

But now, because of Bai Feifei’s consciousness, Xu Mo decided to leak some relevant information to her so she would realize these people deserved to die.

Otherwise, this naive and righteous little “white lotus” might start thinking about suicide again to stop him.

“What are you doing?! Have you lost your damn mind?!”

“You actually dared to kill someone here?!”

Perhaps because they never expected this girl to strike so suddenly, the remaining three men sat frozen for several seconds before jumping up in unison.

The fear of death caused them to knock over their chairs. They shouted in shock, scrambling to put distance between themselves and “Bai Feifei.”

“Are you looking for death?! Who sent you? Do you have any idea who is backing our Black Smoke Coal Mine?!”

“And you actually dared to use the Huang family’s name for your little act! Do you know what kind of existence the Huang family is? How dare you run wild like this!”

The foremen screamed their curses, their eyes filled with a mix of fury and extreme terror.

They were the local tyrants of this small patch of land, possessing the power of life and death over others. They looked at everyone as slaves and had long grown accustomed to being arrogant.

They had shown some restraint earlier because Bai Feifei was wearing a Scavenger uniform, but now, they were facing a direct threat to their lives!

Based on the combat prowess this woman had shown, they probably couldn't beat her in a direct fight, but that didn't matter—they had guns!

As they shouted, one of the foremen reached behind his back to draw a weapon.

Seeing that Bai Feifei hadn't reacted in his mind, Xu Mo figured the girl needed more time to process the information, so he hopped down from the table.

Looking at the men, he spoke with easy confidence.

“I don't care how powerful the people behind you are; they're probably not more powerful than I am.”

“Rather than telling me what the Huang family is, why don't you let the Huang family find out who I am?”

At this point, Xu Mo paused to think for a moment before shaking his head.

“Actually, forget it. They probably won't get the chance...”

In his many previous playthroughs, this minor early-game family was usually wiped out until not even dregs remained by the time his combat power reached its peak.

Xu Mo barely even remembered them; they were just a bunch of nobodies. The game’s lore hadn't even bothered to design any impressive characters for this family!

The foremen were in no mood to listen to “Bai Feifei’s” insane ramblings. They only knew they were in danger and scrambled to pull the handguns from their fatty lower backs.

Finally, one foreman succeeded. His eyes instantly erupted with triumphant cruelty. With a sneer on his face, he snapped the handgun forward, aiming it right at her.

“Hahahahaha! You crazy bitch! Keep talking! Damn it, you actually dared to lay a hand on us.”

“Don't you know? People like you die from talking too much!”

In his fantasy, he could already see this beautiful Scavenger trembling and surrendering under his gun, becoming his prisoner...

Suddenly, his vision blurred. That beautiful but deadly face magnified instantly, appearing before him as if she had teleported.

“Were you trying to say that villains die from talking too much?”

A mocking voice rang in his ear, nearly scaring the soul out of him. Cold sweat instantly soaked through his clothes!

“Aaaaah!”

Screaming like a madman, the foreman began to pull the trigger frantically, only to realize that the trigger wouldn't budge!

Only then did he feel the searing pain in his hand. From the corner of his eye, he saw an exquisite, silver short sword piercing through his fingers and jamming the trigger!

It was the weapon he had taken from Huang Jiahao’s lackey, capable of transforming between a bracelet and a short sword.

While it wasn't a Containment Object, its quality was decent enough for the early game.

That devilish voice echoed softly in the foreman’s ear once more.

“Villains die from talking too much because they aren't strong enough.”

As he spoke, Xu Mo flicked his wrist. With a swift flash of the blade, both the handgun and the man’s hand fell to the ground.

“I'm different. Toying with you to death is still simple for me.”

Picking up the handgun, Xu Mo casually ejected the magazine and glanced at the bullets, muttering to himself.

“Fortunately, technology has regressed, and firearms are only at this level. Otherwise, the start would have been even harder.”

Seeing “Bai Feifei” distracted, another foreman standing slightly further away saw his chance and lunged for his own gun.

“Fuck you! Go to hell!”

Without even looking, Xu Mo thrust the tip of his short sword into one of the bullets in the magazine he was holding. The sharp impact triggered the primer, causing the bullet to fire directly from the magazine in his hand.

Bang!

The sound of black powder exploding rang out. A hole appeared in the distant foreman’s gun arm, followed by a scream of agony.

With that, two foremen had their hands ruined. The third foreman’s mental state completely shattered. The men began to wail and scrambled to run toward the open ground outside.

Xu Mo kicked off the ground and gave chase. If he let these people get away, he wouldn't be able to achieve his goal.

“Don't come any closer! It's broad daylight, what do you think you're doing?!”

The men were truly terrified. As foremen of the Black Smoke Coal Mine, they had seen powerful Scavengers before.

But the woman before them was the most bizarre. Her physical strength didn't seem particularly high, and she didn't use any innate abilities, yet she made the guns in their hands feel as useless as fire pokes!

“We clearly didn't provoke you! You’re talking nonsense using the Huang family’s name and killing people out of nowhere! Have you considered the consequences?!”
