“Troublemakers?”
Bai Feifei was very good at catching the key point now. She immediately picked up on the “most useful” part of Ye Yu's words, turning around with a frown to ask.
“You didn't know?” Ye Yu asked in surprise, shaking her head with a smile.
“Qingping Academy has always been Dawn City's top academy. Every other academy wants to defeat Qingping in the Graduation Show to seize the title of the number one academy.”
“Not to mention we aren't using drugs this time, which makes them feel like they actually have a chance.”
Bai Feifei frowned and asked,
“Which means they're still using drugs?”
“How could they possibly ban it completely?” Ye Yu curled her lips. As a child of a major family, she naturally understood how these things worked. “They only banned public distribution.”
“There will always be people who can still get their hands on it.”
“Besides, because of this, some of them have formed strong ties with the pharmaceutical companies. They might... be quite hostile toward you.”
Bai Feifei's brow furrowed tightly.
It seems that even with the obvious risk of aberration, some people still want to take shortcuts.
Sigh, but what right do I have to judge them?
“Keep it down. Don't let your emotions get the better of you right now.” Just then, a relatively mature voice suddenly sounded.
Wan Qianhong walked up to Bai Feifei and placed a hand on her shoulder.
Ye Yu looked at the hand, then awkwardly stepped aside a little.
Wan Qianhong's expression wasn't very natural either as she whispered beside her,
“In a bit, I have some things I want to talk to you about in private.”
Bai Feifei looked up at her with a hint of confusion.
Ye Yu: ?
Wait, what's that supposed to mean? Do you think I'm in the way or something?
The break was very short.
The wind of the North District, carrying sand and dust, poured through the cracks in the ruins, rattling against the alloy vehicle body.
The students from the various academies munched on their dry rations in silence. The atmosphere was as heavy as the sky before a storm.
Before long, Liu Yun's body slowly floated into the air.
As one of the most prestigious powerhouses in Dawn City, everyone's eyes instantly converged on her.
“Prepare to set off. The convoy will head deeper in to set up our official camp, and then the Graduation Show will begin.”
“The road ahead is already a human exclusion zone. Aberrations could jump out at any moment.”
“All students must stay inside the vehicles. Do not show your faces.”
She paused, and without looking at anyone in particular, said pointedly,
“Especially certain individuals. At a time like this, don't cause any more trouble.”
Bai Feifei: ...
Right then, Xu Mo spoke in her mind:
“Don't listen to her.”
“In a bit, go stand right on the hood of the vehicle. If you see any aberrations, kill them.”
“It's been so long since you farmed any EXP. Your level is stuck at forty-five and won't budge. We can't have that.”
Bai Feifei took a bite of her biscuit and replied in her mind, Stand on the hood? That's way too conspicuous.
“Conspicuous is exactly what we want,” Xu Mo said with a chuckle.
“When farming mobs, you don't fear having too many; you fear them not showing up. You have the Heart of the World now. You can hear the heartbeat of any aberration within a three-kilometer radius. Standing outside is the perfect way to take the initiative.”
Bai Feifei thought about it and nodded.
She did indeed need to increase her strength.
There was no telling how much longer Dawn City could hold out. Every level gained was one more level of safety.
After Liu Yun finished giving her instructions, her figure faded and vanished.
As a Prophet, her Escape Art naturally allowed her to come and go without a trace. The others also began boarding the vehicles quickly.
Then, Wan Qianhong saw Bai Feifei stand up, brush the biscuit crumbs off her hands, walk straight toward the lead armored vehicle, and leap onto the roof.
Wan Qianhong: “?”
“What are you going up there for?”
Bai Feifei turned her head, her elegant face devoid of expression. “To kill aberrations.”
Wan Qianhong opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but seeing the other girl's matter-of-fact look, the words caught in her throat.
Forget it, she couldn't stop this person from doing whatever she wanted anyway.
The convoy set off again soon after.
The six armored vehicles lined up in a row, rolling over the rugged roads of the North District and kicking up clouds of dust.
All the students stayed inside the vehicles with the windows tightly shut. Only Bai Feifei stood on the hood of Qingping Academy's vehicle.
Although everyone saw her bizarre behavior, naturally, no one intended to interfere with her at this moment.
The wind was strong, blowing her hair wildly, but she stood incredibly steady, as if nailed to the hood, completely motionless.
With her hand resting on her sword hilt, her gaze slowly swept across the gloomy ruins ahead.
In her mind, Xu Mo was still nagging: “Remember to steal the kills later. Don't let the other Scavengers kill them and waste the experience points.”
“Understood,” Bai Feifei replied.
At her chest, the phantom heart beat steadily and powerfully.
Under the effect of the Heart of the World Medal, she could hear the decaying, irregular heartbeats of every aberration within a radius of several kilometers.
Suddenly, her ears twitched slightly.
Something was approaching from the front left.
That heartbeat was not at a human rhythm. It was too fast and too chaotic, sounding like dozens of hearts beating simultaneously.
Bai Feifei tapped her toes lightly on the hood, and her entire body soared forward.
By the time she landed, she was already standing behind a slanted brick wall.
Before her was a half-human-tall aberration. It looked like a wild dog, but it had no skin, leaving its pink muscles exposed to the open air.
Its head was split in two, the inside packed with dense rows of teeth.
The creature had just raised its head, and before it could even let out a roar, Bai Feifei's sword had already arrived.
The tip of the sword pierced through its mouth and emerged from the back of its skull, pinning it directly to the ground.
The aberration: ?
In fact, this aberration had absolutely no intention of attacking the convoy. It hadn't provoked anyone and was simply staying here.
But Bai Feifei didn't care about any of that. She showed no mercy when killing aberrations, absolutely taking after the Old-Timer!
Dark purple blood splattered. Bai Feifei didn't even look. She withdrew her sword, turned around, and dashed in another direction.
She moved too quickly. After finding an aberration, every strike of her sword precisely pierced a weakness, cutting through them as cleanly and effortlessly as slicing tofu.
After every strike, a warm current of experience points surged into her body.
She hadn't felt this sensation during her month or so in the Inner City, and she actually missed it quite a bit.
That nourishment of power made every pore of her body relax.
Meanwhile, inside the armored vehicle, the students only caught sight of her through the windows.
They saw her running alongside the vehicle with tireless enthusiasm, occasionally drawing lines of blood in the air to indicate she had killed yet another creature.
“...When did she get down?” Ye Yu was stunned.
Wan Qianhong also poked her head out, only to see Bai Feifei holding her sword. Viscous blood dropped down the blade, landing on the wild grass beneath her feet with a sizzling, corrosive sound.
The two exchanged a look, their lips twitching.
As people who had known Bai Feifei beforehand, they had witnessed her “eccentricity” back in the Black Smoke Coal Mine.
Killing aberrations with her own hands seemed to be a form of OCD for her.
“Forget it, just leave her be. As long as she's happy.”
On the other vehicles, the students from the various academies also witnessed this scene.
“What is she doing? Has she lost her mind?!” a student in the Lieyang Academy convoy muttered, wide-eyed.
They watched in horror as she actively hunted down the occasional aberrations that were clearly trying to steer clear of the convoy.
Sometimes, she would even stand before a corpse with a look of pure enjoyment on her face.
...Isn't that expression way too creepy!
