He Jinfan's body was as stiff as a rock. His lips twitched, completely speechless.
Beneath his mask, his face had gone deathly pale as his mind raced frantically, trying to figure out what he should say next.
Xu Mo patted him on the shoulder with a grin. Judging by his reaction, his guess was spot-on.
He Jinfan! That obnoxious pay-to-win character—he definitely had to mess with him a bit!
“Since you came to help me, you must have been told that you have to listen to me in everything here.”
Xu Mo said with a smile.
“Don't worry, I understand,” He Jinfan managed to squeeze out, barely keeping his composure.
“Did you bring the things you were told to bring?”
He Jinfan had absolutely no idea what she was talking about.
What things?
How was he supposed to know what to bring?!
Was there really a plan that involved him? Had he suffered a bout of temporary amnesia?
But he didn't dare say a word. He had previously thought this organization was incredibly cool and its philosophy mind-blowing, but now he only found it terrifying. He nodded stiffly.
Xu Mo smiled in satisfaction, withdrew his hand, and turned around.
In any case, since He Jinfan was one of the starting characters, it wouldn't hurt to make use of him.
Furthermore, this guy's background was that of a pay-to-win character. Although there was currently no player paying to upgrade him, his appearance here must have a reason, though now was not the time to look too deeply into it.
He likely had some powerful items on him that might come in handy.
He Jinfan stood in place, his calves still trembling.
He had no idea what kind of high-and-mighty entity this woman was, but the moment she casually exposed his real name, his sanity had completely shattered.
He didn't even know her name yet...
Would the life-saving items he took so much pride in actually be of any use against an organization like this?
Around them, Hong Jiu and the others shifted their gazes, firmly believing that this man was indeed an operative arranged by the Masked Hermit Society.
Only Xiao Xinghan continued to stare with wide, suspicious eyes, looking back and forth between the two of them.
Right then, space suddenly trembled.
The few people present turned their heads one after another.
The crimson gale raging outside the windless zone suddenly grew loud and chaotic.
Shouts, footsteps, and the clanging of clashing weapons merged together, echoing from deep within the gale.
Then, the first figure appeared.
Wan Qianhong burst out of the gale, her clothes covered in dust and filthy blood. Several Qingping Academy students followed closely behind her, rushing in.
Gasping for breath, Wan Qianhong was clearly surprised to find a windless zone here. She froze for a moment, then spotted Xu Mo.
“Bai Feifei? You're here!” Wan Qianhong exclaimed in surprise.
Xu Mo was startled.
“How did you find this place?” he asked, looking at Wan Qianhong.
“I just ran toward the direction where there were no aberrations,” Wan Qianhong panted. “There were too many of them. We had no choice but to run, or the students wouldn't have survived.”
Xu Mo frowned.
Something wasn't right...
His gaze swept past Wan Qianhong, looking toward other directions.
Within a few minutes, people from Yaoguang Academy, Tiandou Academy, and various other academies scrambled and crawled into the area to take shelter.
The aberrations did not chase them inside. Instead, they stood in the wind, densely surrounding the perimeter in a massive circle, as if waiting for something.
“They're all fucking here...” Hong Jiu muttered from the side, his mouth twitching as he stared at the crowds still pouring in.
“It looks like they were driven here by the aberrations.”
Capricorn Xiao Xinghan spoke in a heavy voice, his gaze scanning the people who continued to flood in.
“If everyone is running to this exact spot, it doesn't seem like a coincidence.”
“It seems highly deliberate...”
Before his voice could fade, a few more figures tumbled in.
Other Rangers, people from various academies, and Xu Mo even spotted Tian Guannan!
The stream of people continued to gather in this windless zone.
Seeing everyone gathered here, they were all somewhat dazed, but having just escaped with their lives, they had no time for catching up.
Finally catching their breath, the students and staff from the various academies huddled in small groups, counting their numbers and bandaging their wounds.
But just as almost everyone had arrived, the ground beneath their feet shook once more.
Then, everyone saw it.
The raging gale that had remained stationary, as if blocked by some invisible barrier, began to move inward!
The boundaries of the windless zone were shrinking!
And outside the zone, the shadowy hordes of aberrations began to close in once more.
“It's shrinking!” a student screamed. “It's shrinking!”
“Why?! Is it still not over?!”
“I want to quit! How do we get out of here?!”
The students panicked, wailing and crying out in despair.
Tian Guannan suddenly stepped forward, assuming his role as the head of the North District, and spoke calmly:
“Everyone, move inward! Don't stop, retreat toward the center!”
“Rushing outward is suicide. Take shelter inside for now! Wait for Prophet Liu Yun's operations outside.”
His voice provided direction amidst the despair. Everyone hurriedly scrambled to their feet, preparing to move deeper into the windless zone.
Meanwhile, “Bai Feifei” did not budge. She stood in place, her head lowered as her shoulders began to tremble slightly.
Xu Mo could no longer contain his laughter.
“Heh... impressive.”
Looking at the crowds that had been herded here, he finally understood what was going on.
He raised his head, watching the slowly advancing red wind and the aberrations standing just outside.
“They're this well-disciplined?”
He had played the game so many times, but this playthrough was incredibly unique. All the riots had broken out at the exact same time.
But the sole difference from all his previous playthroughs was that he had killed that thing called Wang Gaofeng and pried some secrets from its mouth.
He remembered how fast the response was. The moment he finished the kill, the outbreak began.
He hadn't thought too much of it before, assuming it was just Bai Feifei's luck as the world's protagonist at play.
But now, the aberrations were clearly herding the crowd, and the moment everyone gathered, the zone began to shrink, forcing them together.
Wasn't this an open declaration that there was something watching everything that transpired?
Fuck! If that was the case, being manipulated like a puppet by some hidden entity was really getting on this Old-Timer's nerves!
Beside Xu Mo, He Jinfan stood with his arms crossed, watching this crazy woman out of the corner of his eye.
This member of the Masked Hermit Society was far too mysterious. He had to keep a close eye on her movements; if she didn't budge, he would have to hold his ground as well.
But why had she been wearing such a sinister grin since just now?!
Suddenly, he saw “Bai Feifei” snap her head up, staring toward the deepest part of the windless zone as she roared:
“You've got some nerve!”
He Jinfan: ?
His eyes went wide!
What was that supposed to mean...?
He felt he needed to dedicate all his brainpower to deciphering this woman's intentions.
Xu Mo continued to shout toward the empty wasteland:
“Get the hell out here and face me!”
