The moment the words left his mouth, the first elder of the Li family had already lunged in front of Xu Mo.
Standing in the center of the encirclement, Xu Mo casually held his longsword across his chest. With a look of mild boredom on his face, he parried the elder's strike.
The opponent was an Edgerunner, after all, so he didn't suffer too much of a loss from the clash. Taking a step back, he was immediately replaced by another.
But as Xu Mo looked at their unstable levels on his game panel, he simply twisted his bracer.
The Gaze of the Ancient One, an A-rank Containment Object, was more than enough to drastically weaken these “artificial powerhouses.”
“Is that all?” Xu Mo chatted with Liang Shuguang even as he dodged and wove through the crowd.
“You didn't honestly think these lackeys could overwhelm me, did you?”
“Bring out the real deal. Stop playing these children's games.”
Sitting in his wheelchair, Liang Shuguang smiled upon hearing “Bai Feifei's” words.
“Hehe, you certainly are confident. Even facing so many Edgerunners, you remain completely unfazed.”
“And yet, the strength you are currently showing doesn't quite match your confidence.”
He leaned forward slightly, his tone turning a fraction more serious. “That Sinking Black... won't you let me see him with my own eyes?”
Without pausing his movements, Xu Mo sidestepped a sneak attack from a blade before turning his head to look back at Liang Shuguang.
“Are you really in that much of a hurry to die?”
Liang Shuguang did not answer. He merely smiled and lightly waved his hand.
Bang!
Without any warning, an Edgerunner standing on the outermost edge of the battlefield suddenly ruptured, scattering into a heap of shredded flesh on the ground.
The entire field fell dead silent.
“I must ask everyone to be a bit more serious when fighting.”
Liang Shuguang spoke as he looked at the elders, his tone entirely different from his usual self.
This was the first time Liang Shuguang had ever used such a tyrannical tone.
The Scavengers, who had originally planned to slack off, trembled violently.
No longer daring to worry about “Bai Feifei's” bizarre methods, they moved several times faster than before, lunging forward in a frenzied assault.
The pressure on Wan Qianhong and “Bai Feifei” mounted sharply. No matter how inflated the opponents' levels were, they were still Edgerunners. Fighting so many of them as a duo was no easy feat.
Xu Mo watched the charging crowd, looking straight into their eyes.
There was no fighting spirit or loyalty in them—only sheer terror.
These high-and-mighty lords who usually swaggered around the Inner City had now been reduced to mere puppets devoid of any dignity.
They had previously fantasized about wearing down and killing these two women to take control of Dawn City. But now that the man in the wheelchair was awake, they were all forced to act like rabid dogs.
Ahead of them, they faced Bai Feifei, whose methods were bizarre and unpredictable; one careless mistake could result in an inexplicable death.
But behind them was Liang Shuguang, who could make them die a very clear, agonizing death at any second!
For a moment, the plight of these high-ranking figures actually seemed rather pitiful.
Standing on the edge of the crowd, Kong Man watched the scene, a look of surprise flitting across her eyes.
Her gaze settled back on Liang Shuguang.
With her abilities and Prophet-level perception, she actually could not comprehend what Liang Shuguang had just done.
“How interesting...” Kong Man murmured to herself. A glint of intrigue flashed in her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes as her interest in the City Lord was piqued once more.
Right then, several streaks of light that were not under Liang Shuguang's control suddenly charged out from the flanks.
Boom!
Ye Hanshan, Zhou Qingfeng, and an elder of the Ye family crashed directly into the combat zone surrounding Xu Mo.
Ye Hanshan clashed palm-to-palm with an elder of the Xu family. The resulting shockwave sent shattered stones flying in all directions, forcing both of them back several steps.
Ye Hanshan shook his numbed hand, looked up at his former “colleagues” before him, and spoke in a deep voice:
“Everyone, stop.”
No one stopped.
“I said, stop!” Ye Hanshan roared. The energy around his body suddenly erupted, forcing the people surrounding him back by several steps.
He turned his head, his gaze locking directly onto Liang Shuguang.
“Lord City Lord Liang.” His brow furrowed deeply as he stared at the blood sword still impaled in Liang Shuguang's chest. “What is going on with your current state?”
“This doesn't seem like the time for us to be fighting to the death.”
“Don't you think you owe us an explanation?”
Liang Shuguang looked at the people standing in opposition to him. His eyes shone brightly as he nodded, but he merely countered with a question:
“Explain what?”
Right at that moment, a massive aura suddenly erupted from his side.
Everyone shuddered, instinctively turning their heads to look.
Liu Yun!
It was the pressure of a Prophet!
Ye Hanshan and the others turned pale, instinctively taking a step back as they warily observed the sudden shift in attitude of this supreme expert.
She had been standing there silently, not saying a single word since Liang Shuguang's “resurrection.” Now, it was as if she had suddenly awakened.
Liu Yun did not speak. She simply took a step forward.
Then, she raised her hand and pressed it onto Liang Shuguang's shoulder.
【I once dreamed of a million-strong army!】
Countless golden figures rose from the ground and struck simultaneously, pinning down the Scavengers who were still besieging Wan Qianhong, rendering them completely unable to move.
Everyone stared at Liu Yun, the strongest Prophet of Dawn City, and at her hand resting on Liang Shuguang's shoulder.
“No matter what you want to do,” Liu Yun whispered into Liang Shuguang's ear. Her head was lowered, preventing anyone from seeing her expression.
“Stop this!”
“Let it go. Those things were never yours to carry in the first place. Stop forcing yourself to go further down the wrong path.”
“As long as you are willing to turn back, I will stand by your side!”
The moment those words fell, Liang Shuguang's eyelashes fluttered slightly.
He turned his head to look at Liu Yun, staring at the face that had remained unchanged for decades, a face that had never once spoken a single soft word to him.
Then, a real mood-killing voice rang out.
“Oh?”
Standing not far away, Xu Mo leaned on his sword with one hand, winking and grinning.
“We even triggered a special CG? Tsk, tsk... Does this count as a confession? Is this some late-life romance drama?”
Without waiting for Liu Yun to blow her top, he turned his gaze to Liang Shuguang.
“Let me translate that for you. It means if you don't turn back, she probably won't find it very easy to stand by your side.”
“So, what's it going to be?”
Saying this, he narrowed his eyes and gave Liang Shuguang a highly sinister smile.
“But since the game has already progressed to this point, I bet you won't be that weak, right?”
Liang Shuguang stared at him, falling silent for two seconds.
Then, he smiled.
“Of course!” he said.
“Then the playtime is over.” Liang Shuguang looked up, a faint, dark green light radiating from his eyes. “Let the game begin!”
In the next second, the array enveloping the entire city burst with brilliant light.
A powerful surge of anomalous energy poured down from the dome, instantly sweeping across all of Dawn City.
Everyone's nerves were taut as they looked around, warily waiting for whatever was to happen. Yet several seconds passed, and nothing did.
But suddenly, one of the Edgerunners who had been injured in the battle against Xu Mo froze. His mouth flew wide open, as if he wanted to scream but couldn't make a sound.
His skin began to redden and crack, and his entire body started to swell.
He looked... as if he were about to aberrate.
