Saturday, October 18th.
Evening arrived earlier than usual in the Monte Region. The setting sun dipped into the gaps between the floating islands, painting the entire sky a deep orange-red. The sea of clouds surged, and the outlines of the floating islands blurred in the twilight, with only the lit-up buildings still clearly visible.
Liu Yi rode on Chiying's back, flying back to the hotel from the direction of the Sky Colosseum.
Her last match of the second week ended at six in the evening.
Ziyue was currently lying behind her, her two tails draped lazily along Chiying's sides.
Chiying slowly descended, passing through the hotel's energy shield, and landed at the designated landing spot by the entrance.
Liu Yi jumped off its back, and Ziyue leaped down after her.
“Good work,” Liu Yi said, rubbing Chiying’s head, then recalled both it and Ziyue to her Beast Taming Space.
She walked into the hotel lobby. The elevator doors hadn't closed yet, and Gao Xue and her Frost Crystal Butterfly were inside.
“Just got back?” Gao Xue stepped aside to make room.
“Mhm,” Liu Yi said, stepping into the elevator and pressing the third-floor button. “You?”
“Been back a while. Just went to the nursing room for Liangjingjing to get some recovery treatment,” Gao Xue said, glancing at her Frost Crystal Butterfly. “Today’s match lasted a bit long, and it used up a lot of energy.”
The elevator stopped on the third floor, and they both stepped out.
The conference room door was ajar, and many people were already seated inside. Ouyang Qin sat at one end of the long table, a notebook spread before her, talking to Chu Qian next to her.
Li Chengying sat across from her, a cup of milk tea in front of her, looking down at her phone. Wei Tan'an and several second-year team members sat on the other side, also discussing in low voices.
Liu Yi and Gao Xue walked in and found a seat by the window.
Ziyue hadn't been summoned, and Chiying was also resting in the Beast Taming Space. Liu Yi placed her backpack at her feet, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes to rest.
At exactly seven o’clock, Wei Xiuyu pushed open the door and entered.
She held a tablet computer in her hand, followed by two members of the coaching staff. She walked to the front of the conference room, scanned the area, and only after confirming everyone was present did she press the remote control in her hand.
The projection screen lit up, displaying the total points summary for the second week.
【Monte Competition Zone Second Week Battle Report Summary (October 13th - October 18th)】
【Tianqi Beast Taming High School: 15 participants, Second Week Total Record: 76 wins, 14 losses】
【Second Week New Points: 637 points】
【Current Total Points: 1477 points】
【Current Ranking: Monte Competition Zone 1st Place】
A suppressed cheer erupted in the conference room.
Li Chengying was the first to stand up, almost knocking over the milk tea on the table. “First place! We’re in first place!”
Gao Xue pressed down on her shoulder. “Sit down.”
“I’m just excited!” Li Chengying struggled a bit but obediently sat back down, unable to suppress the smile on her face.
Wei Xiuyu didn’t interrupt their excitement, simply standing in front of the projection screen, arms crossed, watching quietly.
Only when the noise gradually subsided did she speak. “In the first week, we were ranked third, 10 points behind Monte Beast Taming Academy and Skywing High School. After the second week, we’ve overtaken them.”
She paused, her gaze sweeping over everyone present. “This isn’t one person’s achievement; it’s something everyone fought for together.”
The conference room was silent for a moment, then sparse applause broke out. The clapping quickly became synchronized, eventually merging into a unified sound.
Liu Yi leaned back in her chair, applauding softly.
Wei Xiuyu raised her hand, and the applause gradually quieted.
“However,” she said, changing her tone to a serious one, “don’t celebrate too soon.”
She pressed the remote control, and the image on the projection screen switched.
【Monte Competition Zone Second Week Final Points Ranking】
【1. Tianqi Beast Taming High School: 1477 points】
【2. Monte Beast Taming Academy: 1462 points】
【3. Skywing High School: 1458 points】
【4. Fugang Beast Taming High School: 1390 points】
【5. Golden Scale Academy: 1355 points】
【6. Blazing Sun High School: 1342 points】
【7. Jinnan Yunyong Beast Taming High School: 1328 points】
【8. ...】
The atmosphere in the conference room instantly changed.
The team members, who had just been excitedly discussing, unconsciously straightened their backs, their eyes fixed on the numbers on the projection screen.
1477 points, first place.
But Monte Beast Taming Academy, in second place, was only 15 points behind.
Skywing High School, in third place, was only 19 points behind.
15 points, that's just the score a first-year gets for defeating a second-year.
Wei Xiuyu looked at everyone’s expressions and softened her tone. “Being able to rank first shows that you all indeed performed well this week. But the gap is very small, so small that the outcome of a single match could change the rankings.”
She paused, then continued, “And you must understand that Monte Beast Taming Academy and Skywing High School are long-established strong schools in the Monte Region. Their contestants are more adapted to the floating island environment than we are. Our ability to overtake them in the second week relied on everyone’s efforts and some luck.”
“But luck won’t always be on our side.”
The conference room was silent for a few seconds.
Ouyang Qin put down her pen. “Monte Beast Taming Academy and Skywing High School both performed very steadily this week, with almost no one falling behind. Although we won, we didn’t widen the gap.”
Wei Tan'an frowned. “Starting next week, the points matching mechanism will continue cross-grade matching. At that time, our people might face stronger third-year contestants, and the outcome won’t be certain.”
“So next week is the real key,” Wei Xiuyu’s voice echoed in the conference room. “In the first and second weeks, you primarily faced opponents of the same grade and some cross-grade opponents. But starting from the third week, as your personal points increase, the probability of being matched with strong third-year contestants will significantly rise.”
She paused, her gaze sweeping over everyone present. “By then, every win or loss could affect the school’s total points ranking. Are you ready?”
The conference room was silent for a few seconds.
Then, Li Chengying was the first to speak. “Ready!”
Gao Xue glanced at her, a slight smile playing on her lips, not trying to undermine her.
Ouyang Qin also nodded. “Anytime.”
Liu Yi said nothing, simply sitting quietly by the window, tapping her fingers lightly on the armrest twice.
Wei Xiuyu pressed the remote control, switching to the next page.
“Tomorrow is a rest day, free activities,” she said. “The third week’s matches begin the day after tomorrow. I hope each of you can face the upcoming challenges in your best condition.”
“Dismissed.”
After the meeting, the team members gradually stood up, packed their belongings, and left the conference room.
Li Chengying stretched, throwing her milk tea cup into the trash. “Finally, I can sleep in tomorrow. This week has been exhausting.”
Gao Xue glanced at her. “When are you not tired?”
“This week was especially tiring!” Li Chengying declared indignantly.
Ouyang Qin closed her notebook and stood up. “Go back and get some good rest. The third week starts the day after tomorrow, and it won’t be easier than this one.”
“Got it, Senior Qin,” Li Chengying drew out her words, then turned to Liu Yi. “Liu Yi, want to go out tomorrow? I want to visit that Cloud Arena restaurant again. That Arctic Frostfall was too delicious.”
Just as Liu Yi was about to speak, a faint ripple suddenly came from the depths of her consciousness.
It wasn’t Ziyue, nor Chiying.
The ripple was clearer than last time, carrying a sense of urgency.
There was no malice, just a desire to get her attention.
Liu Yi’s fingers paused slightly.
“Let’s talk tomorrow,” she said. “I’m heading back first.”
Li Chengying was momentarily stunned but didn’t ask further, waving her hand. “Then I’ll contact you tomorrow!”
Liu Yi nodded and quickly walked out of the conference room.
