Liu Yi briefly recounted what had just happened, and Huo Nanyun's expression turned serious.
Huo Nanyun said, "The Nova Bio-Research Institute, I've heard of them. There were rumors last year about them conducting illegal experiments, but they were never caught red-handed."
"The Beast Tamer Association should be able to find evidence this time," Liu Yi said.
Huo Nanyun shook her head. "It's not that simple. Institutes like this probably have powerful backing. They usually find scapegoats to take the fall, and their main base is likely not even in our Longwu Region." She paused. "Still, what you did today at least saved that Lightning Rat, and also ensured those three Junior pets were rescued by the Beast Tamer Association."
The two chatted as they walked, soon arriving at a fork in the road.
"It's rare to run into you," Huo Nanyun said, looking at Ziyue and Chiying. "I finally got to see the evolved Ziyue and your newly contracted Dragon-type pet with my own eyes." She then asked:
"You must have been quite busy every day since the High School Entrance Tournament, right?"
Liu Yi recalled what had happened since the High School Entrance Tournament. "It's been a bit busy, indeed. I still need to quickly improve my Beast Taming Space's development progress, and now that I've joined the School Team, there isn't enough time in the day."
"Fortunately, Ziyue and Chiying are very self-motivated in their training, so I don't need to worry too much about them."
Huo Nanyun chuckled, teasing, "Talented and hardworking people are truly terrifying."
After they said their goodbyes, Liu Yi, Ziyue, and Chiying headed towards home.
When they finally arrived home, Auntie Chen was already waiting at the door.
"Why are you so late?" Auntie Chen asked worriedly. "I was just about to call."
Liu Yi briefly explained the delay, omitting the dangerous parts.
Auntie Chen was skeptical but, seeing them safe and sound, didn't press further.
Liu Yi first went to check on the Blazing Lion egg in the incubator.
Everything was in normal condition.
After dinner, it was already late.
After washing up, Liu Yi seized the time to begin her meditation.
Before going to bed, she sent Liu Ran a detailed account of everything that had happened since she got home that evening.
...
The next morning, as Liu Yi stepped onto campus, she noticed something was different.
It seemed even more students were paying attention to her than in the previous two days. When they saw her, they immediately lowered their voices, their eyes filled with curiosity and excitement.
"That's her! The one in the video!"
"I heard the Beast Tamer Association released an announcement this morning."
"That Lightning Rat is so pitiful."
Liu Yi first went to the Tower of Trials to use the pet custody service for Ziyue and Chiying, then quickened her pace towards the classroom.
Seeing Liu Yi enter the classroom, Yan Xinliu stood up from her seat and pushed up her glasses. "You're finally here."
She pulled out her phone, and the screen displayed an announcement from the Beast Tamer Association's official website—《Investigation and Handling of the Nova Bio-Research Institute's Illegal Activities》.
"What happened last night has already spread," Yan Xinliu said, swiping the screen to bring up a video. "Someone filmed the whole thing."
In the video, Ziyue blocked the Lightning Rat's attack, and Chiying intercepted precisely; the two pets cooperated seamlessly.
The filmer even captured the shocking scene of electricity coursing over Chiying's scales with virtually no effect on her.
"Now everyone online is discussing your Moling Dragon," Yan Xinliu said, her voice filled with rare excitement. "Some say its defense is comparable to Dragon-type pets of a higher Level."
Liu Yi took the phone and saw that the video had been shared over a hundred thousand times, with the comment section buzzing with activity:
【This Silver Snow Fox is too cool! Official research institutes, hurry up and figure out the evolution conditions for the Ice Fox evolution chain!】
【The Moling Dragon has such high resistance to Electric-type attacks? This newly discovered Dragon-type is so strong?】
【Am I the only one who noticed that researcher tried to stop her with a Fiery Dog? LOL.】
"And this," Yan Xinliu said, tapping another link. It was Longwu's local morning news, with a prominent headline: 《First-Year Student Bravely Subdues Rampaging Pet, Illegal Institute Exposed》.
Liu Yi rubbed her temples. "It just happened to be on my way home."
"Now the entire school knows that Liu Yi, who 'just happened to be passing by,' has done another amazing thing. It was absolutely the right decision for me to retract what I said before," Yan Xinliu chuckled, then added:
"Oh, and Teacher Wei asked me to tell you to go to her office before School Team training this afternoon."
Liu Yi: "..."
From the opening ceremony until now, she had only been to school four times in total.
She had to ask for leave on the day of the opening ceremony, visited Teacher Wei's office, and then didn't come to school for a week.
Then, immediately after returning to school on Monday, she was called in once.
Yesterday, her third time at school, she went into the office again in the morning.
Today, her fourth time at school, was also the fourth time she was about to step into Teacher Wei's office.
Liu Yi could only nod. Just as she was about to sit down, the classroom door was abruptly pushed open.
Yin Huaixia rushed in, panting, holding a camera.
"Liu Yi! The school magazine wants to do a special feature! About how you train your pets to handle emergencies!" Her eyes sparkled.
Liu Yi sighed. "I need to get ready for class now."
Yin Huaixia wanted to say more, but the class bell rang just in time. She had no choice but to retreat, mouthing "I'll be back" before leaving.
Today's first class was Pet Nutrition, where the teacher explained key points for energy supplementation for pets of different attributes.
Liu Yi diligently took notes, but she could feel gazes occasionally coming from all directions.
During the break, her seat was quickly surrounded by people.
"Liu Yi, is your Moling Dragon really not afraid of Electric-type attacks?"
"How does the Silver Snow Fox's Ice Armor get so sturdy?"
"Can you summon them so I can pet them?"
Liu Yi replied, "Electric-type isn't completely ineffective against Dragon-type. It's just that Dragon-type inherently has some resistance to Electric-type, and with the Moling Dragon's natural defense, the effect appears very weak."
Liu Yi continued, "Regarding the energy distribution for defensive skills, if you work hard to challenge the Tower of Trials and join the School Team, a coach will teach you."
Liu Yi said, "Sorry, I can't summon them right now."
...
The crowd only reluctantly dispersed when class was about to start.
Yan Xinliu, who had been observing for a while, then said, "You actually responded to each one. Don't you find it troublesome?"
Liu Yi smiled. "Not really. They were asking questions about pets, weren't they?"
Yan Xinliu narrowed her eyes slightly, hesitating. "Has anyone ever told you... uh, I don't quite know what words to use to describe you."
"It's just that with your strength, which is far beyond your peers, one would expect you to be a bit arrogant about your talent."
Liu Yi was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled. "Arrogant about my talent? Why do you say that?"
Yan Xinliu pushed up her glasses, the lenses reflecting the sunlight from outside the window. "Look, you're the High School Entrance Tournament Champion, you've contracted a brand-new Dragon-type pet, your Tower of Trials scores far surpass your peers, and you even joined the School Team early. If it were anyone else, their tail would have been wagging to the heavens long ago."
