Chapter 30 | My Nemesis Ascended, What Do I Do?!

The night passed in silence.

When the first ray of morning light pierced through the cold mist of the Myriad Snow Palace and shone upon the window frames of the side hall, the candles inside had already burned out.

Zhang Mingyuan rose to his feet from his meditative state.

Last night, Su Jinxue had stubbornly demanded that he massage her feet until the middle of the night.

Curse her, Su Jinxue is truly heartless!

Upon the bed, Su Jinxue slept peacefully. It was rare for her to sleep, and she had slept well.

On her cold face, her eyelashes caught the light, and those crimson eyes were hidden peacefully beneath her eyelids.

...

Meanwhile, outside the main sleeping chamber.

Bai Yao, dressed in a plain white dress and holding a common dark iron sword in her arms, stood respectfully outside the hall. She had been waiting there for some time.

She had come early in the morning to pay her respects to her master.

But after waiting outside for a long time, there was still no sound from within.

Did Master... go out?

“Master, your disciple is here to pay her respects.”

Bai Yao called out softly toward the hall.

But she received no response.

She felt a little puzzled. Where could her master have gone so early in the morning?

Oh, right, I can ask Immortal Zhang!

Where does Immortal Zhang live again...

She remembered—it was the side hall to the east.

Having made up her mind, Bai Yao carried her sword and walked toward the eastern side hall.

Having gathered herbs in the mountains and forests since childhood, her footsteps were extremely light, making almost no sound.

Before she even neared the door, a familiar, slightly lazy, cold female voice drifted out from the half-open crack of the door.

It was Master!

“Zhang Mingyuan, you performed well last night. Even this seat... fell asleep from how comfortable it was.”

Bai Yao's footsteps instantly froze.

She was completely stunned, her mind buzzing, and the hairs all over her body stood on end!

No wonder... No wonder Master wasn't in her own sleeping chamber so early in the morning!

It turned out... she had spent the night in Immortal Zhang's hall!

Over the past few days, she had heard bits and pieces about Immortal Zhang and her master from some of her fellow junior sisters.

They said the two of them had a love-hate relationship for thousands of years. Later, when Master attained immortality, she captured Immortal Zhang and appointed him as her Sword-Bearing Attendant.

But those senior sisters said in private that “Sword-Bearing Attendant” was just a nice-sounding term. In reality, the Qingyun Heaven's Sacred Lord Zhang had been captured by the Immortal Lord to be her “captive pet”!

They had even mysteriously brought out a few mortal web novels, with titles like 《The Overbearing Immortal Lord's Forced Love》.

When she first heard those words, she flatly refused to believe them.

With an immortal's grace and freedom from desires, how could they play so... wildly?

Besides, they were arch-enemies who had fought for thousands of years. Even if something did happen, shouldn't there be a process?

How could they have ended up together in such a muddled way?

But now, what had she just heard with her own ears?

Comfortable enough to... fall asleep?

Bai Yao was eighteen this year. Although she had no personal experience with intimacy between men and women, she was not completely ignorant.

For Master to say such things, wouldn't that mean...

I have to leave quickly!

If Master finds out I overheard such a secret and ruins the morning atmosphere between her and Immortal Zhang, that would be terrible!

She turned around, but did not pay attention to her feet.

Snap!

With a crisp sound, she stepped on and broke a frozen withered branch.

“Who is outside?”

Inside the hall, that cold female voice instantly became as sharp as a knife!

In the next instant, Bai Yao felt her vision blur as the world spun around her.

When she opened her eyes again, she was already inside the hall, directly facing her master's eyes, which gleamed with a dangerous red light.

“Why are you being so cold? Don't scare the little girl!”

A lazy male voice rang out.

“Look, her face is all red from your scaring... Hiss, wait, shouldn't she turn pale from being scared? Why is this girl's face red?”

How could Bai Yao dare to say she had heard what she shouldn't have? Terrified, she quickly knelt on the ground, not daring to lift her head.

“Master, your disciple... your disciple went to the main hall just now to pay respects. Seeing that you weren't there, I thought to come and ask Immortal Zhang of your whereabouts...”

“Ah, look at that, Su Jinxue. Your disciple is so well-behaved, unlike my rebellious disciple, who only knows how to cause trouble all day!”

Far away in Qingyun Heaven, Chu Jinghong, who was meditating, suddenly sneezed without any warning.

Zhang Mingyuan continued to speak to Su Jinxue, “Can't you be a bit gentler with her? She's only a teenage girl!”

The red glow in Su Jinxue's eyes slowly faded, returning to her usual coldness. She glanced at Bai Yao. “Hm. You may pay your respects.”

“Yo-Your disciple pays respects to Master,” Bai Yao stammered.

“Hm. Starting today, go to Hidden Sword Peak to find an inner sect elder and cultivate the Qi Refining Art. Once you reach the great perfection of Qi Refining, come see me again.”

“Your disciple obeys!”

As if granted a grand pardon, Bai Yao hurriedly stood up and fled the room.

Master is truly terrifying! Immortal Zhang is much easier to talk to; he seems so much more amiable.

Her steps were swift, but before she had gone far, the conversation between the two inside the hall clearly drifted over again.

“Hey, Su Jinxue, why are you so fierce to that little girl! All day long, you just put on an icy face. Do you know why I opposed you the very first time I met you? It's because your face is too pretentious! Would it kill you to be gentler, please!”

“What did you say? Do you believe this seat will suppress you in a cesspool for three hundred years right now?”

Hearing this familiar dialogue, Bai Yao shook her head in her heart.

They really are... just as the rumors say, arch-enemies of thousands of years...

But the very next sentence almost made her stumble and fall to the ground.

“I'll say it! Suppress me in a cesspool? Fine! Go ahead and suppress me! When that time comes, there won't be anyone to make you feel comfortable at night!”

Bai Yao: !

Right after, an embarrassed and angry voice, lowered in tone, came from the room: “Shut up! What nonsense are you spouting? She hasn't even gone far yet!”
