A loud, muffled voice came from above, like rolling spring thunder, shaking the hearts of those who heard it.
The originally majestic and solemn floating city now possessed a touch more spirituality.
"The floating city... has come to life?"
Gandalf tilted his head back so far that his chin was almost pressed against his neck.
He could not comprehend the scene before him.
The mage civilization was not without technologies like puppet robots or intelligent cores.
But this was a floating city, not some bamboo dragonfly toy.
It was an iron law of the myriad worlds: the larger the inanimate object, the harder it was for spirituality to be born.
The mass of a floating city was greater than that of a mountain range. For it to generate spirituality, it was estimated that only a powerhouse at the level of a Dao Lord—one who had mastered the Dao—could achieve such a feat.
'Oh, the Lord of the Undead is also a Dao Lord. Never mind then.'
The newborn spirituality of Guixu was greedily absorbing the necrotic aura from the air of the Land of the Undead.
The swirling clouds in the sky were its doing.
With the floating city completed and this unexpected harvest, Chen Xu was very satisfied with this trip to the Land of the Undead.
Next, he would continue to collect space fragments and break through to the Eternal tier as soon as possible.
If the authority of a mythic-tier Lord of the Undead already possessed such divine power, Chen Xu could hardly imagine the power of the authority at the Eternal tier.
The construction of the three subordinate cities was currently being handled by the Black Knights and Big Boss, so Chen Xu did not need to participate.
He thought it might be better to return to Blue Star for a while to see how much time had passed there.
But just as Chen Xu was about to give a few instructions to Big Boss, a dense murderous intent soared into the sky, and several mythic-tier auras filled the southern end of the Land of the Undead.
As the terrifying mythic auras swept toward them, Gandalf and Big Boss subconsciously activated their items, propping up energy fields.
Only Chen Xu remained calm, standing with his hands behind his back as he looked toward the north.
"Are these undead getting restless so soon?"
To Chen Xu, these were not simple mythic auras; they were auras laced with the authority of the Lord of the Undead.
Those venting their murderous intent were not ordinary mythic-tier necrotic lords, but candidates for the Lord of the Undead who shared the same status as Chen Xu.
Logically, given the time perception of undead creatures, they should not have come knocking so soon.
Usually, the undead style was to observe for decades, slowly uncovering the opponent's background before exerting full force for a fatal blow.
Now, Chen Xu had been in the Land of the Undead for barely a month and had even forcefully killed the somewhat famous Old Cyclops. No one should have been attacking so quickly.
Just as Chen Xu was wondering about their objective, Medusa appeared beside him.
"Excellency Medusa."
Chen Xu took the initiative to greet her.
Medusa's hundred heads glanced casually at Big Boss and Gandalf before she set up an isolated space, enveloping herself and Chen Xu.
"Excellency Chen Xu, the peace of the Land of the Undead has been broken. What follows will be endless waves until a new Lord of the Undead is born."
"What? Excellency Medusa, has something happened?"
'Endless waves' was a description that might be normal for humans or demons, but for the undead, it was highly unusual.
"Besides that strange heart, many other creations belonging to the power of Hell have been discovered within the Land of the Undead.
The necrotic archdukes have reached a consensus that this is no accident, but a conspiracy of Hell.
The madness of the Mother of Hell has reached an uncontrollable level. Ordinary worlds can no longer satisfy its desires. The Land of the Undead—or rather, special worlds—will become its new prey."
Then, Medusa controlled ninety-nine of her hundred heads, transforming them into different appearances.
Each head represented a necrotic archduke.
Including Medusa in the center, that was the current number of necrotic archdukes in the Land of the Undead—exactly one hundred.
"The necrotic archdukes have jointly signed a contract. Within one thousand years, the candidates for the Lord of the Undead must compete to determine the final winner and ascend that Supreme Throne.
Otherwise, we will leave the position of the Lord of the Undead to fate, and the necrotic archdukes will randomly select a candidate and help them ascend directly to the throne.
Only a Dao Lord can defeat a Dao Lord, and only the Lord of the Undead can resist the Mother of Hell.
For the sake of the Land of the Undead and all undead, we have no other choice.
Excellency Chen Xu, I have delivered the news. The rest depends on you."
"Excellency Medusa, I am very grateful for the news you brought."
Chen Xu nodded in response.
Medusa took one last look at Chen Xu before vanishing from the spot.
After Medusa left, Chen Xu immediately summoned the Black Knights.
"Xuan Chu!"
"My Lord!"
"Take the other Black Knights and Bone Guard One, lead the undead army to the border, and set up the great array. You must not let that arrogant fellow enter my territory."
"We obey your will."
The Black Knights took their orders and departed, leaving only Chen Xu, Big Boss, Gandalf, and the others.
Big Boss walked up to Chen Xu and asked with a hint of unease.
"Lord Chen Xu, has a necrotic lord come to attack? Could it be Maurice, that cunning skeleton monster?"
The Maurice Big Boss mentioned was his previous client in the Land of the Undead—a necrotic lord who looked honest but actually had as many schemes as he had bones in his body.
Big Boss thought that his presence might have caused Chen Xu's territory to be attacked, so he was very nervous and afraid.
"Brother Big Boss, rest assured. This invasion is not because of you. This is a life-and-death struggle between candidates for the Lord of the Undead. It is a competition for the Supreme Throne."
Hearing this, Big Boss breathed a sigh of relief.
But looking at the three subordinate cities nearby and the construction teams working diligently within them, he took several deep breaths, his gaze gradually becoming firm.
This was not just Chen Xu's territory; it was his hope for ascension and the future of Wanbao Pavilion.
By aligning himself with a potential Lord of the Undead like Chen Xu, Big Boss's ambition was no longer satisfied with being a God of Trade, or rather, a God of Trade for just one City of Miracles.
He wanted to be the God of Trade for the entire myriad worlds.
Thus, Big Boss looked at Chen Xu with a determined gaze.
"Lord Chen Xu, does the struggle between candidates for the Lord of the Undead allow for external help? Although I, Big Boss, am a merchant and my combat power is nothing to speak of...
Over the years of traveling far and wide, I have several powerful guard teams under my command. If you need them, I will transfer them all here for you to command!"
"External help?"
Big Boss's words left Chen Xu momentarily unsure of how to answer. He truly hadn't paid attention to that aspect.
But in his inherited knowledge, there didn't seem to be any restrictions in that regard. Aside from the necrotic archdukes not interfering, there were no other rules.
Besides, this didn't really count as external help. Since luck could be considered part of one's strength, why couldn't companions captured by one's domineering aura count as part of one's strength as well?
"There shouldn't be any restrictions. However, Brother Big Boss, the struggle between candidates for the Lord of the Undead is extremely brutal. Are you sure you want to get involved?"
Faced with Chen Xu's question, Big Boss nodded seriously.
"Excellency Chen Xu, if you have the need, we at Eternal Heart also take on mercenary work. As long as the price is right, we can even deploy floating cities."
Gandalf also took the opportunity to step forward, peddling Eternal Heart's mage army.
"Hahaha, since everyone is willing to join, then I naturally welcome you with open arms."
One thousand years? That was too long. Chen Xu couldn't wait that long.
If he relied only on himself, he might not be able to achieve a reckless speed run.
But Chen Xu's advantage was his identity as a human. What did humans value? They valued an orderly lineage—if you can't win a fight, you call for backup.
Currently, he had Wanbao Pavilion and Eternal Heart.
Later, he could even bring over that bunch from Blue Star. Since they were all clearing dungeons anyway, the Land of the Undead was just another dungeon.
The peace of the Land of the Undead had been broken. At this time, no matter what strange moves Chen Xu made, they shouldn't attract the attention of other undead.
In that case, let Chen Xu be the one to raise the tide of war.
