Chapter 224 | Overtime Necromancy: My Legion Never Sleeps

Chen Xu sat upon his throne, his scrutinizing gaze falling upon Taiyin's face.

He then looked up at the nine moons in the sky.

That was Taiyin's true essence; the goddess before him was merely a walking avatar.

When a world god descended into the world, they could either use a believer's body as a vessel for Spirit Descent or use divine power to manifest an avatar to move about freely.

Relying on the powerful foundation of the nine moons—even though eight of them were ordinary moons—Taiyin possessed mythic-tier strength from the moment of her birth.

Like Kunpeng, she was only a single step away from the eternal-tier, lacking only the comprehension of her own Dao.

However, compared to Kunpeng, Taiyin possessed something more, and that extra element was the key.

It was the celestial movement rules of the Land of the Undead, the Lunar Star Lord's Patrol, and Heavenly Punishment.

Chen Xu had expended a great deal of effort, combining his authority as the Lord of the Undead and his creation authority, to write these rules into the very surface of the Land of the Undead.

As long as Chen Xu lived, Taiyin's true form—the nine moons—could orbit the heavens within the starry sky of the Land of the Undead according to specific trajectories.

Taiyin was effectively Chen Xu's satellite; henceforth, every event, large or small, occurring within the Land of the Undead would be monitored by her.

This was the patrol function of a Star Lord.

Once a suspicious target was identified, the Star Lord could borrow the authority of the Lord of the Undead to mobilize the world power of the Land of the Undead and deliver a devastating strike upon the target. This was known as Heavenly Punishment.

Both the patrol and Heavenly Punishment functions required the use of the Land of the Undead's world power. Consequently, the Star Lord created by Chen Xu was bound to the Land of the Undead by this authority.

Unlike other undead creatures, she could not enter and leave freely and could only travel outside via her avatar.

The benefit, however, was that within the Land of the Undead, the Star Lords could utilize world power to gain the ability to fight enemies above their rank.

Taiyin, for instance, was only at the mythic-tier, but by relying on world power, she could contend with eternal-tier enemies.

Defeating them might be difficult, but being able to face a superior opponent without falling behind or suffering a major disadvantage was already an exceptional feat.

Chen Xu had bound the painstakingly created Star Lord to the Land of the Undead for two reasons. First, it was to accelerate the struggle for the position of the Lord of the Undead; with Taiyin gathering information and providing combat support from the starry sky, he would have the confidence to actively break the three-way standoff.

Second, he intended to use the Star Lords to establish a Divine Dynasty within the Land of the Undead, bringing the realm completely under his control.

In the current Land of the Undead, although the supreme throne of the Lord of the Undead remained vacant, the necrotic archdukes were unharmed.

Hundreds of eternal-tier existences were scattered throughout the Land of the Undead, yet the power of Hell had still managed to infiltrate. It was clear that these necrotic archdukes were indifferent to worldly affairs.

The way the undead thought was not something the living could easily comprehend.

The Star Lords were meant to guard against Hell, but they were also meant to keep an eye on these necrotic archdukes.

If the necrotic archdukes couldn't be relied upon, he would rely on the necrotic Star Lords.

As for the Black Knights, these essential commanders and combatants who could lead undead legions were naturally meant to be deployed elsewhere. Locking them away at home for management would be a waste.

Furthermore, the Star Lord created by Chen Xu was not lacking in strength, even considering only her avatar.

Taiyin was born with two natal artifacts: the Nine-Moon Frostflower Mirror and the Dew-Dripping Laurel Branch. Combined with the natal divine pet at her waist, the Taiyin Divine Curse Dream-Soul Spider, her combat power was maximized.

In addition, the two Behemoths behind her were also assets for the Lunar Star Lord.

Through the modification of the creation authority, the Behemoths had integrated the power of the moons, and the Giant Valley had also changed. Henceforth, any giant beasts transformed there—regardless of their species—would automatically be locked into the lunar faith from the moment of their birth.

The two Behemoths faced Taiyin, kneeling on the ground. Their massive claws were raised high and then slowly lowered as they continuously bowed to her.

Roars continuously escaped their mouths, sounding slightly less heavy and a bit more feminine than before.

Taiyin turned to look at the two Behemoths. With a gentle flick of the laurel branch in her left hand, she shook off several droplets of lunar dew, which fell upon the Behemoths.

“Since you worship me so, you shall be known as the Worshiping Moon race from now on.”

Her cold voice rang out as Taiyin established the name for her vassals.

“Roar!”

Nourished by the lunar dew, the auras of the two Behemoths surged rapidly, breaking through from the epic-tier to the legendary-tier in the blink of an eye.

Kunpeng, watching from the side, saw this happen, and its gaze instantly fell upon the laurel branch in Taiyin's hand.

Taiyin turned around, intending to report to Chen Xu, only to see Kunpeng's longing eyes. Following its gaze, she realized it was looking at the laurel branch.

Although Taiyin had just been born, one-ninth of her origin came from a moon from the Immortal Island. She possessed memories of Kunpeng and knew well that this seemingly simple-minded and gluttonous battle beast was a high-ranking and beloved general under Chen Xu.

Thus, Taiyin gave a faint smile and once again shook off a few drops of lunar dew from her left hand, splashing them toward Kunpeng.

Seeing this, Kunpeng immediately swished its tail and swam through the air. It opened its massive mouth and inhaled, swallowing all the lunar dew.

Seeing Kunpeng's blissful expression, Taiyin worried it might fixate on her lunar dew. While this substance wasn't exactly rare, it still required effort to condense.

“Fellow Daoist Kunpeng, my lunar dew is merely a type of energy created by multi-layer condensation of lunar essence, tempered with divine power.

“It may be of great use to my vassals, but for someone like you, it likely won't have much effect.”

“Hoo~”

Kunpeng let out a cheerful cry and nodded repeatedly. Then, with a swish of its tail, its deep blue divine power lit up as it pulled Patchwerk along and left the Undead Divine Court.

Having eaten and drunk its fill, it could continue sparring with its little brother.

Next, a massive spatial gate appeared above the Undead Divine Court, and Chen Xu placed the nine moons into the Land of the Undead.

Taiyin bowed slightly toward Chen Xu. In the next moment, her avatar burst like a bubble, vanishing from the spot.

In the starry sky of the Land of the Undead, the nine moons rose higher and higher. Guided by the rules, each found its fixed orbit.

Once in their orbits, the nine moons began to rotate and spread out.

Such a commotion naturally drew the attention of all the undead in the Land of the Undead.

The low-level undead with muddled intelligence raised their heads one after another, staring at the never-before-seen moons that had suddenly appeared in the sky.

The waves of lunar essence shed by the moons caused the soul fires of these undead to grow slightly stronger. To get closer to the moons, these undead even began to slaughter one another, fighting for higher ground.

However, the mythic-tier undead lords and the eternal-tier necrotic archdukes held different attitudes.

The mythic aura radiating from the moons made the undead lords extremely wary. Many whose territories were originally in the open began ordering their subordinates to dig underground burrows.

The necrotic archdukes, on the other hand, clearly perceived the faint scent of the Lord of the Undead's authority upon the moons. Knowing the origin of this new development, they ceased to pay it any mind.

There had been many generations of the Lord of the Undead, and each generation would come up with something new; they had seen it all before.

The only ones treating the moons as a formidable enemy were Chen Xu's two competitors in the Northwest and the Northeast.

“Hmph, creation. To waste effort on such flashy tricks before even ascending the throne.”

In the Northwest of the Land of the Undead, a massive bone dragon lay atop an icy peak. He raised his head slightly, glancing sideways at the moons in the sky with a disdainful sneer.

“Creation... It’s only been this long, how could he have created something so terrifying!”

Unlike the bone dragon's disdain, on a scree slope in the Northeast of the Land of the Undead, a gray-white stone tablet let out a shriek filled with terror.
