“What happened after that, Senior Isobel? What about your sister?”
As she listened to her story, Shetiel perked up her ears.
She knew that her senior had later told the Saintess the truth and tried to stop everything, but in the end, she had failed as well.
“She pointed right at my face and scolded me, calling me a failed Astral Sage and saying that the Saintesses died because of me. After that, she left with the Master of the Tower of Stars.”
Isobel spoke without hatred or any particular emotion, as if she were merely stating an insignificant fact.
“Magical beasts are nothing more than a painful wail. No one will save them, except for the Demon King...”
“When I saw those pitiful girls turned into monsters by their obsessions, only to be slaughtered by humans once again, I made a decision. The magical beasts need a 【Demon King】.”
“She needs to possess overwhelming combat power and leadership, to become an existence that strikes absolute terror into the hearts of humanity.”
“Years ago, having defined this existence, I infiltrated the upper echelons of humanity and told them of the Demon King's existence. Now, this 【concept】 is known to all~ And currently, she is indeed the Demon King I envisioned in my mind.”
Tina, the Dragon Magical Beast.
Both Sathya and Isobel knew very well in their hearts how powerful a magical beast Tina would become once she fully matured. Even now, she could intimidate the entire Second Paladin Order.
Everything she did revolved around the concept proposed by the Deceptive Magical Beast, Isobel. Her code of conduct was built upon the existence of the Demon King.
Imperceptibly, she became the Demon King; the concept became reality.
In a sense, Isobel had succeeded.
She looked at Sathya. “Since you returned from the future, can you tell me what happened in the future?”
“I was the only magical beast left. Human technology and magic regressed by hundreds of years, and nothing remained.”
“Hehe...”
“What are you laughing at, Senior?” Shetiel asked.
Isobel shook her head. “I am merely reflecting on the irony. The strongest Saintess of humanity is actually a magical beast. The Saintess Selection program was indeed a success.”
“Aren't magical beasts simply existences that broke through the Monsk coefficient? The Pope really is wise~”
At this point, she seemed to grow somewhat excited. After emitting a trace of the power of chaos, a sharp pain shot through her chest, causing her to clutch her breast and collapse sideways again. She didn't look at anyone, but simply continued to curl up with her legs hugged. “The White Dusk Forest was a trap I laid. Based on your weaknesses, I released Tina's shackles and sent her to kill the two Cardinals. Tina was also the Demon King I chose.”
“Are you really going to help me?”
Sathya had been stroking Tina's back from the very beginning.
She was asleep, her chest rising and falling rhythmically.
As a magical beast, after consuming too much energy, she needed a certain amount of time to rest and sleep.
Every time magical beasts devoured humans, they would find a hidden place to "hibernate" much like animals, a process that only lasted a few days.
Tina was sleeping soundly, rubbing her face against Sathya's thigh, resting her hand on her knee, and wrapping her other arm around her waist.
In the past, their relationship had never been this good...
Sathya was very satisfied. She even felt a bit of joy in how much Sister Tina depended on her.
Once she regains her sanity, will she still like me this much?
“I don't hate you,” Sathya said.
“I also have absolutely no interest in the 'kingdom of magical beasts' you speak of. However, I highly approve of the Demon King you mentioned.”
As she spoke, she looked down at Tina, warmth once again blooming in her golden eyes.
“My Sister Tina... before she became like this, she always wanted me to become the Saintess. She wanted to protect me, and she did everything she could just to help me succeed. There must be a reason for that.”
She exuded pressure, her miasma condensing into tentacles that slithered across Tina's body, but the fast-asleep Demon King could not see Sathya like this.
“So, I have made up my mind, Deceptive Magical Beast... Miss Isobel, I don't intend to help you, but I can invite you to join me.”
“Assist me in becoming the Saintess, and fulfill the Demon King's wish.”
...
In the spring of the year 1124 of the Common Calendar, the Holy Academy underwent a sudden change.
The new Cardinal, Elcalan, promulgated numerous dogmas, postponing the Saintess Selection indefinitely. The privileges of all apprentice Saintesses were temporarily revoked, and the students returned to their normal academic lives, as if the 'Saintess Selection' that had taken place six months ago was merely a short-lived ephemera recorded in history.
However, there were always those who would remember them.
All of Sathya's supporters spontaneously formed the 'Saintess Faction.' They began protest actions over the disappearances of Sathya, Tina, and Velrose, and gathered information on the corruption and incompetence of the Church's high-ranking officials everywhere.
The Church claimed to the public that these three outstanding Saintesses were away on a mission, believing this would pacify the chaos within the Holy Academy.
However, there was a very troublesome leader among them who refused to let the matter drop.
Krulu Sarather, known as the Goddess of Winter.
Her family spanned the world, wielding various powers, and their web of connections was too complex to be shaken.
With her presence, as long as Sathya remained missing, the Saintess Faction would not stop threatening the Church.
With more and more evidence being unearthed, the conspiracy behind the 'Saintess Selection' would soon come to light.
The strength of the Saintess Faction grew day by day. Gradually, under the guidance of the new Principal, the societies within the school also began to join the Saintess Faction.
Elcalan did not care about the Church's honor.
Nor did she care whether the Church still held a place in people's hearts.
Or rather,
she also wanted to see the Church fall apart, no matter how insignificant these resisting forces were.
Recently, she had been designing a perfect weapon.
The weapon incorporated her understanding of abyssal magical beasts, making it a lethal existence to any abyssal magical beast.
Aether wrote to her every day, mentioning in his letters that she was utilizing a vast amount of resources and urging her to quickly stop Krulu, as this 'Saintess Faction' could not be allowed to exist any longer.
Elcalan had not intended to care.
However, one day, she suddenly received a letter from Krulu.
The letter stated that Krulu would use any means necessary to uncover her purpose and find out what she had been doing with the resources she recently mobilized.
It was a provocation, a threat to force her to hand over the Saintess.
That was a plan of the highest secrecy, one that could not be known by anyone.
And coincidentally, Krulu's family indeed possessed such power. They could bribe high-ranking Church officials to cooperate from within and expose her plans.
The torrential rain of early spring met a sudden late cold snap, freezing once more and reflecting the gray-white sky.
The woman walked along a narrow, winding path, followed by several bishops and Inquisitors.
The neatly trimmed path was lined with locust and poplar trees, as well as the sycamore trees favored by the head of the Sarather family.
She drew her other Holy Sword, 'Eternal Night,' and walked slowly toward the Sarather family mansion.
She would make Krulu understand the consequences of opposing them.
