Chapter 20 | Please Stop Possessing Me, Lord Evil God!

Inside the rental house, Grinya, who had been quietly waiting for the next instruction from the evil god, suddenly felt a sensation in her heart.

With a slight stir of her will, a star emitting a faint glimmer appeared out of thin air, floating quietly in the sky.

"Is that..."

Grinya's pupils dilated instantly, and she subconsciously held her breath.

"A Life Star?"

She could hardly believe it. Stunned, she reached out to touch the extraordinary star.

Just as the books recorded, the star was illusory. Her hand passed through it as if she were touching a pocket of air.

A star was actually just a projection, essentially the manifestation of a god's power—a blessing from a deity.

In short, only by receiving a divine blessing could one have the opportunity to obtain their own Life Star.

However, gods could not bestow blessings without limit. A Life Star was a part of the god themselves; the more They blessed, the more They lost, and the more unstable Their own existence became.

Therefore, obtaining a Life Star had always been an extremely difficult feat.

Whether for nobles or commoners, the gods treated everyone equally in this regard.

And yet, at this moment, Grinya possessed a Life Star!

Even though she knew deeply that this was a blessing from an evil god, she was still overjoyed.

After all, only a mage with Life Star skills could be considered a true mage.

Even the great nobles would have to treat such a person with courtesy.

"A new quest has appeared."

While Grinya was rejoicing, a deep, blurred voice echoed in her ear.

It was the evil god!

This time, Grinya did not feel any resistance as she had before. Instead, she submissively allowed the evil god to take control of her body.

At the same time, she felt a strong sense of anticipation regarding the "new quest" the evil god mentioned.

Lu Xun watched as the main quest in his quest list updated its content. Although he had absolutely no idea when he had progressed the main story, perhaps this was simply a unique feature of this game.

Lu Xun offered no praise or criticism regarding this.

"It is time to enroll now."

Hearing the new command issued by the evil god, Grinya dithered for a moment.

Enroll?

But hadn't she failed her assessment?

Could it be...

After only a second of contemplation, Grinya arrived at a terrifyingly logical answer.

Was all of this part of the evil god's plan? Even if her entrance assessment failed, it wouldn't affect the final result of her enrollment in the slightest?

If that were the case, the evil god's degree of control over the mortal world might far exceed her imagination!

The evil god must be planning something that would shock the secular world!

Thinking of this, Grinya suddenly hesitated again.

The essence of the evil god was, after all, an evil god. His plans most likely did not bode well for humanity.

Therefore, if the evil god's plan truly endangered the interests of mankind, she would do whatever it took to stop Him.

Grinya made up her mind.

'I'm sorry, Great Evil God... after all, I am still... human!'

...

At the cathedral in the center of the city, Father Luen was guiding lost believers at the entrance, as he did every day.

Across the street from the cathedral, there was a coffee shop.

Thanks to the cathedral, its fame ensured a massive flow of traffic on this street, so the coffee shop was often crowded.

Ruiya Kata'er held a cup of hot coffee, but her gaze remained fixed on Father Luen at the cathedral entrance.

In her clear, beautiful eyes, there was a light of yearning and anticipation.

"Beautiful lady, you seem to need a little help. Perhaps you can trust in my divination."

Suddenly, someone sat down across from her, blocking her view of the cathedral.

Ruiya knitted her pretty brows and looked at the young woman who had suddenly approached her with a rather strange appearance.

The woman wore a pointed hat and a long black dress, dressed just like a witch from several hundred years ago.

Nowadays, magicians had not only changed their titles to the more encompassing term "mage," but their attire had also kept up with social trends. Young female mages usually preferred beautiful Western dresses, and their hats would feature more fashionable and pretty decorations.

However, that wasn't what Ruiya found most strange. It was that the young woman before her didn't seem to recognize her; otherwise, her attitude couldn't be so casual.

She didn't want to have any further entanglement with this strange woman.

"I'm sorry, I'm not interested in divination," Ruiya said plainly, lowering her eyelids.

"No, lady! I can see that you are currently at the most confused stage of your life. You hope for an existence that can lead you out of your misery, don't you?" the young female diviner said hurriedly.

Ruiya's expression didn't change, but her gaze shifted abruptly.

Before she could say anything, the female diviner suddenly placed her hands on the table and lowered her forehead heavily against the surface, making a crisp sound.

"I beg of you, lady, just let me perform a divination for you so I can earn a bit of money for my hard work! Otherwise, I might not be able to walk out of this shop!"

Hearing the female diviner's plea, Ruiya was taken aback. She turned her head and saw that on a nearby coffee table, there was a finished coffee cup and a small plate of half-eaten pastries.

Standing by the table was a staff member waiting for the bill to be settled, staring fiercely at the female diviner.

Ruiya: "..."

Although the female diviner didn't explain anything, Ruiya roughly understood the situation.

She sighed. Not wanting to have too much interaction with a stranger, she simply took out her wallet.

"There's no need to trouble yourself. I will pay your bill for you."

"Oh, how could I accept that?" The female diviner smiled bashfully.

Despite her words, she made no move to stop Ruiya from taking out the money.

Ruiya pinched a crisp Katar Kingdom banknote. From the face value, this note was worth as much as twenty silver coins.

"I don't have any change. Consider the extra a gift from me." Ruiya handed over the banknote without even looking.

The moment she saw the denomination of the banknote, the female diviner's eyes widened so far they almost popped out.

"By the god of divination! You must be a young lady from a wealthy family. Your kind heart will surely be seen by the gods!"

The female diviner accepted the banknote, which was equivalent to half a month's salary for an average working-class person, and her eyes welled up with tears of excitement.

"To show my gratitude, I can perform a divination for you for free," she said.

"I really don't need it." Ruiya's forehead was covered in black lines. She had absolutely no interest in so-called divination; she just wanted this weirdo to stay away from her.
