Chapter 4 | Reborn as a Saint in a Rotten World, I Refuse to Submit

In that instant, the sun lost its radiance!

In its place, darkness instantly enveloped the world, yet... this darkness was not pitch black!

Pure moonlight cascaded upon the earth, and silver specks of light clung to everyone within a five-hundred-meter radius of Luo Li!

"It's a miracle!!"

"The Saintess has summoned a miracle!"

"That's a demon!!"

"Quick! Bring the heavy crossbows over here!"

"Protect the Saintess! Kill the demon!"

In that moment, even those unaware of the situation reacted.

Luo Li finally saw the true prestige the Holy Church held among the people!

They disregarded their own lives, charging forward without hesitation even when facing a towering demonized human!

In the blink of an eye, the transformed Martha was surrounded by a swarm of people!

However, these soldiers were mostly below level ten, and their spears couldn't even pierce the skin of the demonized human Martha.

"Your Highness the Saintess, to think... you actually found out!?"

Martha had hidden it so well, so how was she exposed?

Luo Li stood upon the carriage, her entire body wreathed in shimmering silver light, looking as sacred and inviolable as a goddess.

Without answering Martha's question, Luo Li simply gave her a dismissive glance while contemplating how to keep her here.

The defenses at the West Gate were far too weak.

Due to the demon army's tactic of surrounding three sides and leaving one open, most of the soldiers in Brilliant City had been deployed to the northern, southern, and eastern walls, leaving this area with almost no heavy crossbows.

Ordinary soldiers were completely unable to damage a level thirty demonized human like Martha.

With a sudden wave of her hand, the soldiers charging at Martha were cut down as if by an invisible saw, and flesh and blood splattered instantly!

Fortunately, Luo Li had activated her special class skill, which allowed nearby allies to unconditionally negate damage once.

However, some unlucky souls were still injured by accidentally running into their comrades' spear tips during the chaos.

Just then, the Brave Knight Adam also reacted, shouting at the demonized human Martha:

"Everyone else, fall back! You can't hurt her!!"

As he spoke, Adam drew his great claymore, took a step back, raised it above his head, and let out a roar!

"Cross Slash!"

"Death Grip!"

Luo Li watched as Martha suddenly extended a beast-like claw toward Adam, showing no fear of the shining silver claymore.

In that split second, she clearly saw a glint of smugness in Martha's eyes!

Something was wrong!

It was a trap!

Seeing that Adam hadn't realized it and knowing she didn't have time to warn him, she could only use her special class skills once more.

She had no choice; her level was too low to fight directly.

"Inspire! Heal! O moonlight! Protect my knight!"

She unleashed three skills in an instant. Inspire increased Adam's attack power by ten percent, while Heal was cast simultaneously to ensure he could recover quickly even if injured.

The final move was her special class skill.

'Moon's Protection.'

For a set duration, it granted the concept of 'invulnerability' to a single person.

However, Luo Li had still underestimated the traitor.

The moment Moon's Protection was cast, a look of surprise crossed Martha's face, yet she still gripped a black spectral image in her hand.

Her phantom palm suddenly clenched tight!

Splat!

Without any warning, Adam acted as if he had been struck by a heavy blow. He coughed up a mouthful of blood, and the spectral image of his Cross Slash vanished mid-swing. He clutched his chest and stumbled forward two steps, using his claymore to prop himself up on the ground.

Before Adam could react, a black claw slammed violently into his chest!

Boom!

With a thunderous explosion, the silver-armored Adam was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing into a civilian house by the roadside. The rising dust completely obscured his figure.

Luo Li's brow furrowed as she stared at Martha.

The woman's height had surpassed two meters, nearing two and a half, making her almost level with Luo Li standing on the Saint's Carriage.

Her seductive face twisted into a cruel, triumphant smile.

"Hehehe... Your Highness the Saintess, do you know why you haven't leveled up for a whole year, or why you haven't learned a single Holy Protection skill? It's because of me... all because of me! If you had learned any protection skills, then this loyal knight of yours wouldn't have had his heart crushed by my curse~ Hehehe, Hahaha!"

'I see.'

'It wasn't a damage skill but a curse, so my class privilege, Moon's Protection, was ineffective?'

'No wonder the original Saintess was still level one after a whole year!'

'No wonder she didn't have a single Holy Protection skill despite her status.'

'She only had Inspire, Heal, and a few special class skills.'

'It was all a trap laid long ago!'

Looking at Martha's arrogant laughter, Luo Li's face grew paler. At this moment, she had no choice but to draw the Sword of Fidelity and grip it tightly.

Even if her knuckles turned white, even if her heart was filled with terror, and even if she knew she might be killed in a single move by Sister Martha, she could not retreat even half a step!

"Martha, do you really think I didn't notice?"

"Of course you did, otherwise we wouldn't be having this little show today. But it truly surprises me. I hid it so well, yet you still found out? Could you tell me exactly what mistake I made that allowed you to catch me?"

Seeing the hesitation on the Saintess's face, Martha let out a sneer:

"Are you still waiting for your knight to save you?? It's impossible! That knight's heart has already been crushed by me~ Ooh~ Hahaha!"

The Fidelity Knights, despite the support from Luo Li's special class skills, were still unable to deal any serious damage to Martha. At most, they were just scratching the surface, barely equivalent to a foot massage.

However, Martha never expected that while she was gloating, a silver figure would suddenly bolt out from the collapsed house.

When that silver blur flashed past the corner of Luo Li's eye, a smile finally tugged at the corner of her lips.

"Who said a crushed heart is a death sentence?"

The words had barely left her mouth!

The silver claymore pierced Martha's chest once again, stabbing through the evil at her breast and exiting through her back. Black blood sprayed out once more, but this time, the volume was far greater than the first!

"This... how is this possible!!"

Martha spat out a large mouthful of blood, staring at Luo Li in disbelief while completely ignoring Adam, who had driven the sword into her chest.

"Did you not notice that before I used my special class skill, I had already cast Heal on him?"

All of Luo Li's skills were level one, except for Heal, which was level two. As long as someone wasn't instantly annihilated, they could quickly recover their combat effectiveness in a short time.

Furthermore, Adam's heart being crushed was something the Saintess's Heal could fix, as it was no ordinary healing art.

It didn't simply restore based on the severity of the wound, but rather treated the total area of the injury.

It was vastly different from what an ordinary nun could do.

Luo Li's current skill level was just enough to heal an area the size of a heart.

Fortunately, Adam hadn't sustained any other injuries.

Thus, Adam's shattered heart had been completely restored!

Luo Li had been able to stand her ground without flinching because she had seen the status notification for her teammate, confirming that Adam was not dead.

"Knight Adam, hold her back! Reinforcements are coming!"

With such a massive commotion, and with both the Moon Banner and Moon's Protection being unleashed, the sky itself had changed. The Guardian Knights were bound to notice the situation here.
