“Hey, Bond, look at you. I was just talking. Don't be so serious. I'm not the type of person who likes to seek death.”
Hearing Bond's words, Cary's body stiffened noticeably, and his expression turned sheepish.
Clearly, the lord they spoke of had left a significant shadow over them in the past.
Any little schemes that had arisen in his mind were completely dispelled at this moment.
“You had better be.”
Bond warned Cary in a serious tone; they knew this guy's personality all too well.
If Cary hadn't been unable to control himself before, how could they have drawn the people of House Callis here?
While all parties harbored their own thoughts, the third day quietly arrived.
On the morning of the third day, Carlo boarded a carriage to Tyr's residence early in the morning.
He knew he couldn't wait any longer; the longer they delayed, the more disadvantageous it would be for them.
Who knew what evil plans the Abyss demons were cooking up?
The peace of the past two days was definitely not because they had left, but rather the calm before the storm.
A moment later, Carlo's carriage stopped outside the mansion where Tyr and the others lived.
“Sigh...”
Stepping down from the carriage and looking at the beautifully constructed mansion, Carlo sighed, took off his hat, and walked to the door.
Knock, knock, knock.
Avia opened the door. Upon seeing that the visitor was Carlo, she turned and spoke.
“Young Master, it's Mayor Carlo.”
“Let him in.”
When Carlo walked into the mansion, Tyr and Avia were enjoying breakfast.
“Mayor Carlo, would you like to join us for breakfast?”
Seeing Carlo rush over so early in the morning, Tyr naturally knew his purpose. It just so happened that today was indeed the day to pull in the net.
“No, thank you, Young Master. I have already eaten.”
Although Carlo was the mayor of Caslant, he was ultimately still a commoner. He did not dare to sit at a noble's dining table.
Mayor was just a fancy title; in reality, his status was inferior to even a noble's butler.
“Then I must trouble Mayor Carlo to wait until my sister and I finish our breakfast.”
“No trouble at all, no trouble at all.”
Carlo shook his head repeatedly and respectfully stepped aside to stand.
More than ten minutes later, Tyr and Sevira finally finished their breakfast.
Mia stepped forward and cleared their tableware.
Just when Carlo thought they could finally discuss the matter of the Abyss demons, he heard Tyr speak.
“Sevira, where do you want to go today?”
“Let's go to the central plaza. I heard there's a very large fountain there.”
Actually, Sevira did not know what Tyr was plotting either, but she trusted him completely.
“My Lord, we...”
Seeing Tyr and Sevira about to go out for fun again, Carlo stepped forward in a bit of a hurry.
“Mayor Carlo, come along with us.”
Before Carlo could even finish his sentence, Tyr cut him off.
“Yes.”
Carlo nodded in agreement with a dejected face. His sudden interruption just now had used up all his courage, and he did not dare to refuse a noble's invitation now.
After a while, the group left the mansion, boarded the carriage that had been waiting outside, and drove toward the central plaza.
Carlo's carriage followed behind Tyr's. He looked out the window at the streets.
Because of the frequent crimes committed by the Abyss demons recently, most people were hiding in their homes, leaving the streets much quieter.
Thinking of how bustling the streets of Caslant used to be, Carlo could not help but sigh again.
“Sigh...”
Carlo had a depressed look on his face, as if lamenting Caslant, or perhaps lamenting his own fate.
If the matter here remained unresolved for much longer, he would probably end up on the gallows, wouldn't he?
Thinking of this, Carlo looked at the carriage ahead. He would not give up, whether for Caslant or for his own life.
Ten minutes later, the carriage stopped at the central plaza.
“Wow, this place is indeed quite nice.”
Supported by Mia, Sevira stepped down from the carriage. What met her eyes was a beautifully constructed fountain.
Tyr did not think there was anything special about it. The fountain he had seen at the Grand Duke's mansion was far more magnificent than this.
Carlo stepped off the carriage and looked around the central plaza. Usually, this place was crowded with young couples on dates, playing children, and minstrels playing beautiful tunes.
But now, it was so sparse that barely anyone could be seen.
“Young Master Tyr.”
Carlo kept psyching himself up in his heart as he approached Tyr.
“The environment here is very good. Mayor Carlo, you've managed this place well.”
Just as Carlo was about to persuade him, Tyr took over the conversation again.
Carlo replied, “This is only my duty.”
In this manner, time passed until the afternoon. Carlo wanted to steer the conversation toward the Abyss demons several times, but Tyr diverted the topic every time.
When dusk arrived, Carlo followed behind Tyr and the others with a look of utter dejection.
He had completely given up. This Young Master Callis clearly had no intention of dealing with this matter.
Carlo could not understand. On the first day, the other party had clearly shown high regard for the matter here. How could he become so indifferent after just one night?
Could it really be as Bishop Coos said, that these young masters and ladies did not care about the survival of a city at all?
“Mayor Carlo, how about we visit one last place?”
Having been observing the movements of those Black Mages with his divine sense, Tyr turned to Carlo and spoke when he saw they were almost ready.
“I will follow your lead, Young Master Tyr.”
Carlo had completely given up now. Whatever. He was tired. Let it be destroyed. If he died, so be it. He was just a commoner; what could he possibly do?
Carlo got into his carriage, following behind the carriage of Tyr and the others.
To the west of Caslant sat an abandoned cathedral. It had been deserted for a long time, and the wild grass around it grew as high as an adult's knees.
At this moment, people from all directions were crossing the abandoned open ground and walking into the cathedral.
Inside the long-abandoned cathedral hall, several Black Mages were drawing a sacrificial magic circle with blood.
As Bond's final stroke fell, the magic circle lit up with a blood-red light, and a sticky, bloody mist emerged from it.
“It's finally done. Let the sacrifice begin. Open the channel to the Abyss and turn all of Caslant into our blood feast.”
Looking at the magic circle that was already seeping with Abyss power, Cary's face wore an excited smile.
Once the Abyss creatures descended, they would no longer have to hide just to drink blood like they did now.
“Move faster. Summon our Lord quickly to perform the ritual, lest delay brings trouble.”
Bond glanced at Cary, who was already getting carried away, and began to chant the summoning incantation to call upon the lord who had bestowed them with black magic power.
