【It was hidden quite well. The notebook you found last time didn't have any power attached to it, so I didn't notice, but this time, it has indeed stirred some long-forgotten memories.】
Mephistopheles's laughter sounded subtle, as if it were truly reminiscing about something.
Faust couldn't help but ask:
"What do you mean by 'writer of the script'?"
【Faust, when do you think the phenomenon of destiny scripts began?】
【The Wheel of Destiny doesn't create anything. All of its seemingly intelligent behaviors are essentially acts of imitation. The paths are like this, and the arrangement of destiny scripts is the same.】
"!!!"
Faust's breath hitched at the words. He had heard Mephistopheles say that the original paths were human methods of cultivation that the Wheel of Destiny later copied, consolidated, and popularized.
"Are you saying... destiny scripts were also first created by humans?"
【It is exactly as you suspect.】
Mephistopheles confirmed Faust's guess, saying:
【A long, long time ago, only providence existed in the world. It was a broad, grand tide, unstoppable yet extremely loose. These so-called destiny scripts did not exist until the first son of man established the first kingdom.】
【Then, the original story compilers were born. In an era where even the path systems were not yet defined, they, as mere mortals, possessed abilities that even a fairy would find astounding.】
【They could turn the stories they wrote into reality, or even create worlds within them.】
【That power to use fictional stories to make reality evolve along a set trajectory was favored by the Wheel of Destiny, and it became the dominant theme thereafter.】
Faust processed this world-shattering information and couldn't help but curse:
"Dammit, Mephisto! Why haven't you ever mentioned something this important before?!"
【Well... Faust, my dear Faust, you must have pity on Mephisto. There are simply too many things I know. Even if you spent your entire life listening, it wouldn't be enough to tell even one percent of it. So, I only mention the key information at hand.】
"Is this not key enough?"
【Because it was meaningless. In ancient times, the total number of story compilers could be counted on two hands. Once the destiny script was absorbed into the mechanics of the great wheel of life, this loophole was closed. It is impossible for another soul with compilation aptitude to be born into this world.】
【Since it is an existence almost impossible to encounter, there was no need to speak of it.】
Faust frowned, lightly stroking the cover of the notebook:
"Then what about my royal sister..."
【It is just that no more people with such talent will be born, but the souls of those former story compilers still possess such abilities.】
Mephistopheles's tone carried obvious surprise and wonder:
【By all rights, these story compilers should have been circulating through the circuits of the great wheel of life, just like all other souls that experience birth, aging, sickness, and death, resting in eternal tranquility.】
【But amidst this wandering, a very small number of souls might manage to reincarnate due to an oversight by the great wheel of life. These reincarnated individuals might lack the memories of their past lives, but they will never forget their innate talent.】
【I already suspected that Yusewood was a reincarnator, but I only thought she might be some ancient prophet. Looking at it now, she is far more impressive than a prophet.】
That was indeed impressive.
Faust gripped the notebook tightly, his heart pounding with excitement over the revelations Mephistopheles had shared.
He knew Yusewood was extraordinary—otherwise, he wouldn't have guessed his royal sister might be a witch.
While she wasn't a witch, being the reincarnation of an original writer of the script... this identity was no less significant than that of a witch.
Oh boy, the Qingxi Kingdom is truly a land of heroes and legends. Besides Viviana, there's also Yusewood. Are all the people around me this incredible?
Faust sighed: "My royal sister really has been hiding something big..."
【This is an opportunity, Faust.】
Mephistopheles suggested:
【The principles of a destiny script and the abilities of a compiler are almost identical. Back then, even I didn't realize how much impact this ability would have on the mortal world. Now is the perfect moment to explore its mysteries.】
The contracted fairy's eagerness was no surprise to the prince, as he was thinking the same thing.
In his quest to defy the Wheel of Destiny, he couldn't afford to overlook any means of exploiting bugs. While the 【witch】 was naturally his most important reliance, being able to analyze a destiny script would be no less valuable than the 【witches' feast】.
"Should I go and ask my royal sister directly?"
Faust thought for a moment and rejected the idea.
If Yusewood were willing to tell him, she would have done so last time instead of keeping it hidden.
【The reason she is unwilling to tell you is likely because she has concerns.】
Mephistopheles said:
【Reincarnators may not fully remember their past lives or know of the Wheel of Destiny's existence, but their instincts will warn them—this ability is taboo.】
【You must understand, Faust. Once the destiny script became the foundation of the world's operation, continuing to compile stories became an act of transgression against the established order. The great wheel of life might have overlooked the appearance of a reincarnator, but it will never allow anyone to abuse a power that is supposed to be monopolized.】
【If she were just writing for fun, it would be nothing. But to truly manifest a written story into reality would invite punishment equal to dragonfall.】
"Ha—"
He laughed out of sheer exasperation. Wheel of Destiny, you're really something else!
Dealing with such an absurdly powerful gatekeeper was a lifelong struggle.
Faust shook his head and opened the notebook, his fingertips brushing over the freshly inked paragraphs—the "stories" Yusewood had written.
"Why is there only a beginning? Where is the rest?"
【It is likely still being written. I vaguely remember that those who wrote scripts would immerse themselves in their own stories while continuing to write.】
No wonder Yusewood was always so mysterious and rarely left her room. Faust had often searched the entire palace without finding her.
It turned out she was diving into the stories she wrote!
Suddenly, a bold thought surfaced in Faust's mind.
"Mephistopheles."
The prince spoke slowly:
"Can I also participate in this story?"
【Oh?】
Faust pursed his lips:
"Because of our contract, you can perceive everything I feel. If I enter the script my royal sister is writing, would that provide you with enough research data?"
Silence filled his mind for a moment, soon broken by Mephistopheles's low, delighted laughter:
【Faust, I didn't intend to mention this, but you brought it up yourself. Yes, I can do it.】
【Actively stepping into a web of destiny woven by another... it is very risky, but it is indeed a shortcut. After all, the best way to understand a story is to become a part of it.】
Faust took a deep breath, a thrill of excitement surging through his chest.
"Then there's no problem. Do you think I'd be afraid of a little risk?!"
