Chapter 192 | Reincarnated as a Prince in a Twisted Fairy Tale World

The young nun pondered for a moment after hearing this and said:

"The Sanctuary cannot confirm who the true brave one is; it has always been mere speculation."

Although the common masses are unaware of the existence of the 【fate script】, they have a general understanding of the 【Brave One】 mechanism.

"Throughout history, whether the 【Brave One】 was once a nobody or a person of noble and prominent status, they have almost always experienced a continuous series of miracles within a very short period, establishing magnificent achievements and overcoming obstacles with unstoppable momentum."

As Helen spoke, she began to sense something was amiss and looked at Faust:

"Brother Faust, you are..."

If judged by these standards, Faust could actually be considered a 【Brave One】 himself.

Faust laughed: "I feel I could be one too, don't you?"

However, His Highness the Prince did not receive the validation he sought. Instead, Helen's beautiful face showed a look of difficulty, and she nervously pinched the corner of her dress:

"Although I am not a monastic specifically responsible for detection, you... I am afraid you do not belong to the category of 【Brave One】."

"Why?"

Faust certainly knew he was not a 【Brave One】, but how could humans like her, who had not awakened to freedom from fate, possibly tell the difference?

Miss Helen, is your scalp itching to be stepped on again?

Just as Faust intended to sternly reprimand her and order Helen to kneel while speaking to him, the latter spoke up to explain in advance:

"Before arriving at the Qingxi Kingdom, the Sanctuary did indeed have suspicions, believing that you, Brother Faust, were also a brave one candidate. But now, I can clearly state that it is impossible; the two are completely different concepts."

This incredibly beautiful and cold nun let out a cold snort: "Because the 【Brave One】 is not a follower of the Sacred Deity."

What does that mean?

Faust lifted his chin slightly, hummed, and made a sound of questioning.

The blonde, golden-eyed nun seemed as if she had been calibrated, and she quickly stroked her full, upright chest:

"We in the Sanctuary, while revering all fairies in the world, exist ultimately because of the 【Sacred Deity】. At the head of the pantheon, there is only the Sacred Deity. The doctrines we follow and the hymns we chant are mostly handed down from the era of the Sacred Deity."

"And in the era of the 【Sacred Deity】, there were no 【Brave Ones】. The oracle delivered by the Sacred Deity negated the holiness of the brave ones; they are not the chosen followers of the Sacred Deity, so they must have received gifts from others... from other despicable beings!"

A shadow flickered in Helen's brilliant golden eyes, and she said with resentment.

Mephisto, what kind of good deed have you done!

Faust frantically asked Mephistopheles in his heart, but the contract fairy only snorted and said:

【Nothing much, just some experiments conducted back in the day. Although I don't care for this flock of lambs, they are indeed pious; that is one thing I cannot deny.】

Faust was lost in thought. Seeing this, Helen sighed softly and spoke with a very cautious demeanor:

"In the Golden Age, the disappearance of the Sacred Deity was our eternal pain, but the departure of the Sacred Deity was truly full of doubts. During the time we waited for the Sacred Deity's return, we had to endure humiliation and invite the fairies who might be our enemies into the pantheon."

Does a conspiracy theory actually prevail within the Sanctuary? That they believe other fairies backstabbed the Sacred Deity? And that even the 【Brave One】, who is blessed by fairies, is viewed with suspicion.

"Circumstances forced our hand; dragon-slaying requires a brave one, so the Sanctuary had to acknowledge the status of the brave ones. But to maintain control, the certification and guidance of the brave ones are handled by the Sanctuary to avoid situations that exceed expectations."

So that is really it!

Only then did Faust recall that the Sanctuary usually never competed for anything, yet they were very enthusiastic about matters related to the "brave one," as if they wanted to handle everything themselves.

Outsiders only feel that the Sanctuary is worthy of being a church inherited from ancient times, with an invincible sense of mission and responsibility.

After Helen put it this way, Faust realized the Sanctuary's little clever scheme.

Precisely because of the church's all-encompassing nature, before any official dragon-slaying or the creation of relevant great achievements, the power to define who is a brave one is held in the hands of the Sanctuary's monastic order.

Whoever the Sanctuary says is a brave one candidate is a brave one candidate.

Oh my, so this is where they are playing a long game.

"If a brave one must be born..."

Helen hesitated for a moment, gazing at Faust with her golden eyes:

"The Sanctuary is more inclined toward a brave one who is steady, controllable, and possesses sufficient wisdom and heritage. This is why we are more fond of that imperial princess. Compared to a farm boy who suddenly gains power, a monarch of noble and pure origin is undoubtedly a more reliable long-term partner."

"In fact, there are a few other brave one candidates, but none are as suitable as that imperial princess. Within the Sanctuary, we simply let all the brave one candidates compete on equal footing."

Faust understood clearly; the Sanctuary was hedging its risks.

"Let the brave ones fight the brave ones, let the heroes check the heroes!"

Helen's eyes lit up upon hearing this, and she nodded with a smile:

"That is exactly it; what you say is entirely correct. Except for that one time with the founder of the empire, our Sanctuary has tried our best to reduce the influence of the brave ones throughout history, especially by influencing the mindset of the brave ones, so that when a brave one completes a great feat and makes a wish to the fairies, they can wish for things that are as harmless as possible."

"Whether it is love and hate entanglements, hoping for world peace, or even retiring to the countryside... most brave ones have had their influence reduced in this way. In very rare cases, it did not take effect, and the birth of the Radiant Dynasty was one such instance."

As Helen spoke, the expression on her face could be described as very regretful.

Because the founder of the empire was not only a 【Brave One】 but also possessed the 【Overlord】 fate-star!

Faust laughed: "So that's how it is. Then I am even more interested. Since a brave one is merely a title before actually achieving a great feat, I think I can help you fight the brave ones."

While forming an alliance with the Second Empire and merging with the Sanctuary, Faust was aiming to play both sides.

Helen was surprised: "You want to participate in the strife between the brave ones?"

His Highness the Prince sighed deeply and clenched his fists:

"Because it is so frustrating. How can anyone who craves glory sit by and watch the era not belong to themselves? Even if they are a brave one, what am I lacking?"

These words carried a touch of genuine feeling. Faust was truly frustrated; if it were not for Mephistopheles, or his constitution as one loved by witches, he would have truly been stepped to death by the child of destiny if he had followed his original life plan.

Thinking of that result made Faust tremble with rage.

The young nun pondered for a moment and said:

"Brother Faust... although I am very certain you cannot be a brave one, if you truly wish to join, I can help you orchestrate it."

"Then I leave it to you."

Faust reached out and touched Helen's hair. This interaction made the young nun widen her eyes. She gazed at the prince with her brilliant golden eyes, full of affection, gave a shy "hmm," and said:
