Chapter 109 | Sequence: Sacrifice

“You don't need to tell me. As long as Mr. Su agrees, I agree.”

Wang Gen had spent enough years navigating these waters to know better than to leave any openings for trouble.

Moreover, he knew perfectly well that the man before him wasn't really asking for his permission, but rather using him to ask Mr. Su.

He was the Director of the Security Bureau, after all; did they really think they could just use him as a messenger?

The old man smiled, having picked up on the subtext in Wang Gen's words.

Closing his eyes to sense the surroundings once more, he pulled a stick of incense from his pocket and lightly flicked the tip. A wisp of green smoke began to rise slowly.

Wang Gen silently took a step back, his gaze growing increasingly wary.

The wisp of green smoke drifted toward the two human-shaped imprints on the floor, merging into them.

Whoosh—

Streaks of gray smoke rose from the two outlines, gradually intertwining into two vague human figures. They stood up and began walking toward the counter.

Although the area had been burned to scorched earth, the general layout could still be inferred from the surrounding environment.

The two figures stood there for a while. One of them raised a hand, then lowered it, and both began walking toward the entrance.

Just as they reached the door, they both stopped abruptly and turned back, as if they had seen someone.

Then, one rolled to the side while the other dropped flat to the ground.

Seeing this, both the old man and Wang Gen frowned.

Only now did they realize their mistake. There had definitely been more than three people at the scene!

“There is no transcendent aura; those others were ordinary people with guns.”

The old man reached a conclusion immediately, but Wang Gen shook his head.

“They weren't people. They should have been living corpses or some kind of summoned entities.”

After a moment of thought, the old man understood Wang Gen's point.

Regardless of anything else, Wang Bin and Li Qing were both Sequence 8. At such close range, it was impossible for them to be ambushed without putting up any resistance.

How could ordinary people survive the attacks of two Sequence 8 transcendents?

And if anyone had died, given the strength of the old man and Wang Gen, they would have been able to sense the residual souls.

“If they were living corpses, then the opponent should be a Gravedigger or even a Ghost Messenger.”

“However, there should be residual corpse energy from the battle. How could it have been cleaned up so thoroughly? It's as if they never existed.”

The phrase 'as if they never existed' gave Wang Gen a start. His mind instinctively went to the Demigods who had been sacrificed.

When those Demigods were sacrificed, it was exactly like that—as if they had never existed!

“He might have been sacrificed!”

“Sacrificed?”

“Yes.”

Wang Gen nodded with a solemn expression.

“Not long ago, many things were discovered in Meng City. You can go ask Mr. Su about it.”

The old man nodded. He knew he wouldn't get anything more out of Wang Gen and would have to go to Mr. Su himself.

...

Huanggang.

“A great harvest! A truly great harvest!”

“Hahaha! The fish we caught today are more than what we'd usually get in three days!”

The fishermen were all smiles, and their gazes toward Yin Yang's boat were filled with a touch of awe.

A few of the crew members even walked over toward him, carrying several fish.

Yin Yang had just finished selling his catch to Luo Yu and was about to pack up to buy supplies at the market when he saw the fishermen looking at him with honest, simple expressions.

“We've come to thank you. May I ask your name?”

“Wang Yang.”

“Oh, Mr. Wang! Thank you so much. It’s been a long time since we’ve caught this many fish at once.”

“This is a small token of our gratitude. Please, you must accept it.”

“Yes, yes! You must take it.”

Forget Yin Yang—even Luo Yu was stunned by the sight.

He had been in Huanggang for six or seven years, but when had he ever seen one fisherman giving gifts to another?

Yin Yang didn't stand on ceremony. He took the fish and said,

“You're too kind. If you need help with a sacrifice next time, you can come find me. I'm a professional in this field.”

With Yin Yang's assurance, the fishermen's smiles grew even wider.

Seeing this, the other fishermen also hurried to offer a portion of their catch to Yin Yang.

Yin Yang accepted them all. Then, right in front of everyone, he sold the fish back to Luo Yu.

“Sell these fish as well. Use the money to buy bricks for me.”

“Bricks?”

“Yes. These are offerings from the believers. I'll use them to build a temple, or perhaps construct housing for the elderly and build schools.”

Hearing this, the surrounding fishermen felt even more moved.

Building temples, houses, and schools were all ways of accumulating merit.

Luo Yu’s expression turned serious as he heard this.

“Don't worry. I will see to this personally.”

Yin Yang nodded, then addressed the fishermen.

“Same time tomorrow. Those who need to perform a sacrifice should arrive early.”

“You got it!”

“Will do!”

The fishermen agreed one after another before heading back to sell their own fish.

Among the other fishermen nearby, some watched with interest, some with disdain, and others were already quietly asking what kind of offerings were needed.

By the next morning, even more fishermen had gathered to join the sacrifice.

However, this time, a small accident occurred.

As they were performing the sacrifice, the surface of the sea suddenly began to churn with waves.

The fishermen only thought the weather was turning bad, but Yin Yang sensed something else entirely.

Just as his dance was nearing its end, a man in a suit suddenly stepped forward and kicked over the offerings in front of Yin Yang.

Yin Yang frowned. He took off his mask and looked at the man quietly.

“Who gave you permission to hold a ritual here?”

The group of fishermen behind him clearly recognized the man in the suit; not a single one of them dared to speak up.

Yin Yang remained silent, staring at the man with a calm gaze.

His attitude clearly annoyed the man, who stepped forward and crushed Yin Yang's offerings under his boot.

“Sacrificing to the Whale God has rules and a system.”

“Do you have a license? Have you been approved? Don't you know this is an illegal sacrifice?”

Yin Yang looked at the ruined offerings on the ground and shrugged.

“Not really. Is dancing not allowed on the shore?”

The man froze, seemingly not expecting Yin Yang to respond like that.

Before he could say anything else, Yin Yang pointed at the ground.

“That was the food I prepared to eat after my dance. Why did you stomp on it? If you don't give me an explanation today, we'll settle this at the Command Center.”
