Chapter 114 | Sequence: Sacrifice

Hearing Yang Shan say this, Mr. Huang realized he had oversimplified things; this wasn't just a simple case of an unruly mob forcing his hand.

There were some things one absolutely could not yield on, for they were the very foundation of his position.

Mr. Huang rose and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the increasingly dark sky.

“It seems your subordinate cannot die just yet.”

Yang Shan also walked to the window and spoke.

“Whether he lives or dies is not important. What matters is that it took us this long to fade the Sea God from the public consciousness. We cannot let a minor incident bring the Sea God's name back to Huanggang.”

“You know very well what that adult wants.”

“If this matter fails during your term, you know better than anyone what your end will be.”

Mr. Huang’s brow furrowed deeply upon hearing this.

“I will go talk to that Baleful Star.”

“I will go with you. I won’t speak; I’ll just listen.”

Mr. Huang glanced back at him but ultimately did not refuse.

Although the two of them were constantly at odds in Huanggang, they were aligned on the major issues.

As the top official of Huanggang, it was very easy for Mr. Huang to find someone.

With a quick check of the surveillance, it didn't take long to see where Yin Yang had gone.

...

“Auntie, your cooking is excellent.”

Yin Yang took a bite of fish and gave it a very high evaluation.

Mrs. Lu smiled so widely her eyes crinkled into slits.

“We coastal people only know how to cook a few fish.”

Yin Yang savored the taste carefully before adding, “You even added Warm Sun Grass? Impressive. It doesn’t just remove the fishy smell; it also dispels dampness. This is practically medicinal cuisine.”

Mrs. Lu looked at Yin Yang with some surprise. She hadn't expected him to discover her secret recipe after just one bite.

Just as Yin Yang was about to take another bite, the front door was suddenly pushed open from the outside.

Mr. Huang, dressed in a formal suit, was the first to enter. Behind him followed Yang Shan and the Security Bureau Chief.

Mrs. Lu was startled by the Security Bureau Chief’s uniform. She forced herself to remain calm and moved toward the direction of Lu Zhao’s room.

Lu Zhao and Lu Ming also stood up instantly.

As residents of Huanggang, it was impossible for them not to recognize these three men. After all, they appeared frequently on television and on promotional posters.

Yin Yang picked up a napkin and wiped his mouth, a faint hint of divinity surfacing.

“Barging into someone’s home without even knocking—are you bandits?”

The faces of the three men changed instantly!

Suspecting someone was a Demigod and seeing one in person were two completely different things!

Yin Yang’s face darkened. He pointed his chopsticks toward the door and said, word by word, “Get out. Knock.”

Crack!

A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, and heavy rain fell at that exact moment, pattering loudly against the ground.

The three men glanced at Yin Yang. Seeing that he was still staring them down, they could only grit their teeth and walk back out into the rain to knock.

Thump, thump, thump.

Yin Yang went back to eating, acting as if nothing had just happened.

Lu Ming’s eyes were as bright as lightbulbs, and even Lu Zhao looked astonished.

The two of them were ordinary people and hadn't sensed Yin Yang’s divinity; they thought Yin Yang had simply used his status to drive the three away.

Thump, thump, thump!

The knocking continued outside, but Yin Yang kept his head down and ate his fish. He didn't speak until he had finished the entire thing.

“Come in.”

Mr. Huang and the others entered the house again. However, they were now soaked to the bone, looking nothing like the powerful figures they had been moments before.

Yin Yang wiped his mouth and sat at the dining table, looking at the three of them.

“You have business? Speak.”

Yang Shan glanced at the Lu siblings. Lu Zhao understood and stood up, pulling away Lu Ming, who clearly wanted to eavesdrop.

After the two left, Mr. Huang stepped forward and tried to sit down. However, when he saw Yin Yang’s gaze, his movements stiffened. In the end, he simply remained standing and spoke.

“Does promoting the Sea God have anything to do with your mission?”

“Yes.”

“How long will it take?”

Yin Yang narrowed his eyes. “Why are you asking? If I told you, would you dare to listen?”

Mr. Huang’s expression changed again.

The missions performed by a Baleful Star were often extremely dangerous. The secrecy of such missions went without saying; if he actually found out, he’d probably be taken in for questioning by the Security Headquarters within two days.

“Your people disrupted my plans, and now you’ve come to my door.”

“What? Have you been local tyrants for so long that you think you can cover the sky with one hand?”

The expressions of the three shifted once more. The Security Bureau Chief almost took a step back, wanting to distance himself from the other two.

But his reason stopped him. This was a major taboo in officialdom!

It was fine to shrink back before coming here, but retreating after you had already arrived was absolutely unacceptable.

“Mr. Ghost Tiger, we are very willing to cooperate with your actions, but we have a plan for Huanggang!”

“The policy from above is to fade out the Sea God!”

“Even the Whale God was promoted as a new faith specifically for this purpose.”

“Yet now, you have incited the people to blockade the Command Center, leading to this situation.”

“If the people of Huanggang return to believing in the Sea God, then our efforts of over a decade will be wasted!”

“Can you take responsibility for that?”

Mr. Huang stared intently at Yin Yang.

Yin Yang narrowed his eyes, his divinity surfacing once more. “Who do you think you’re talking to?”

Mr. Huang’s expression froze. Only then did he remember that the person in front of him was no ordinary citizen to be bullied, but a Baleful Star from the Security Headquarters!

The atmosphere grew stagnant for a moment.

Through that exchange, Yin Yang had already deduced a few things.

They wanted to obtain something near Huanggang—something that originally belonged to the Sea God! That was why they wanted to weaken the faith in the Sea God in Huanggang.

The more local believers there were, the more power a deity could exert.

From that perspective, he really had disrupted their plans. The Sea God’s cooperation, even the display of divine wrath, had likely been an excuse.

But then again...

What did that have to do with him?

From start to finish, Yin Yang’s goal in Huanggang was simple: hold more rituals to increase his strength and promote to Sequence 7!

As for their factional struggles, they could fight however they wanted as long as they didn't interfere with his sacrifices.

“I cannot leave Huanggang for the time being; my mission is not yet complete.”

“I have a reason why I cannot worship the Whale God. If you will not let me worship the Sea God, then I must worship another.”

Hearing this, Mr. Huang and Yang Shan both breathed a secret sigh of relief. Then, they heard Yin Yang continue.

“I will fabricate a deity, but you must recognize its legality.”

Mr. Huang’s first instinct was to refuse. After all, who knew if this ‘fabricated’ deity was actually some evil god.

But remembering the other man’s status as a Baleful Star, he closed his mouth. If even a Baleful Star worshipped an evil god, the Great Wei would have fallen long ago.
