Chapter 299 | Sequence: Sacrifice

"Nice one, Old Yu! Trying to play the fisherman while the snipe and clam fight, are you?"

Big Beard Zhang was quick to notice Mr. Yu's intentions and decisively stepped in to block him.

Yin Yang looked at the three old men with a helpless expression. He thought to himself, 'I'm supposed to be going to the battlefield; I don't want to be stuck doing research!'

He only felt useful when he was close to the front lines.

Thinking of this, he let out a soft cough and said, "Gentlemen, let's put the matter of the research project aside for now. The soldiers on the front lines are still waiting for us."

The three of them looked at each other, but no one spoke first.

Seeing this, Yin Yang decisively changed the subject. "Speaking of which, how did the enemy develop so many transcendent diseases?"

"Besides, diseases are highly contagious. Aren't they afraid of their own people catching them?"

"Or do they have a cure?"

Yin Yang's eyes lit up as he spoke.

If the enemy had a cure, stealing it to study would be much faster than trying to figure it out from scratch.

"Virus bombs!"

"They launch the virus directly into our camps from a great distance," Mr. Yu explained to Yin Yang.

Yin Yang frowned. "Playing so dirty... aren't they afraid of international condemnation?"

Mr. Yuan sighed. "The winner takes all, and the loser is the villain. History is written by the victors. As long as they win, someone will naturally step up to defend their actions."

Big Beard Zhang clenched his fists tightly. "Damn them all to hell! If you ask me, we should give them a taste of their own medicine!"

"It's just transcendent diseases, right? It's not like we can't develop them too!"

However, Mr. Yu shook his head firmly. "Others can say that, but we cannot. Don't forget, we are doctors!"

"Our duty is to save lives, not to research weapons of mass murder!"

Mr. Yuan nodded in agreement, indicating that his thoughts aligned with Mr. Yu's.

"Sigh."

Big Beard Zhang let out a long sigh, but then a smile touched his lips. "Still, Great Wei isn't a pushover. Not long ago, we developed a brand-new transcendent weapon called the Earth Dragon Jar!"

"That thing can connect with the ley lines to trigger massive earthquakes!"

"Hahaha, a calamity-level transcendent weapon. Its destructive power is not a bit less than their virus bombs."

Mr. Yuan nodded. "Yes, the only drawback is that the power is difficult to control, and it's easy to cause collateral damage to civilians."

While they were talking, an assistant carefully brought back a transparent crystal ball.

Big Beard Zhang stepped forward to take it, his expression grave. "This is the original fungus. We sacrificed many soldiers just to obtain this!"

"Xiao Yang, you must be extremely careful when studying it. This thing's reproductive and parasitic capabilities are terrifying!"

"Understood!"

Yin Yang nodded, took the crystal ball, and walked toward a research bench.

As he walked, he silently activated his Perception skill, trying to understand this so-called original fungus.

The moment he made contact, Yin Yang was stunned.

This wasn't some kind of fungus!

This was clearly a part of an evil god!

It was just like the evil god's eyeball that had parasitized the fishermen back in Huanggang!

"What's wrong, Xiao Yang?"

The three men had been focused on Yin Yang and immediately noticed something was off.

Mr. Yuan even walked toward him. "Let me handle this experiment. I'm a transcendent; my resistance is stronger."

"It's fine, Teacher Yuan. I just thought the form of this fungus looked familiar. It's like I've seen it in a book somewhere, but I couldn't recall it for a moment."

Hearing this, the three of them felt a bit more at ease.

In addition to its sealing function, the crystal ball also acted as a magnifying glass, making it easier for outsiders to examine the contents.

Yin Yang stood at the research bench, observing while using Perception.

Just as he had discovered before, this was indeed a product of some evil god.

If Yin Yang wanted to, he could 'dismiss' it right now.

After all, the skill he had awakened at Sequence 6 was designed exactly for this.

However, there were so many battlefields; he couldn't go to every single one to dismiss the god.

Furthermore, once he used that ability, wouldn't he be exposing himself?

Yin Yang continued his research with his head down, using Perception to search for the fungus's weakness. Finally, he discovered something unusual.

"Teacher Yuan."

"Yes?" Mr. Yuan walked over immediately, clearly pleased with how Yin Yang addressed him.

‘He calls everyone else "Mr.", but he calls me "Teacher". What does that mean? It means Xiao Yang is still closest to me!’

"What is it, Xiao Yang? Did you find something?"

Mr. Yuan leaned in to take a look.

"I have indeed seen this before. I enjoy reading, and I've read a very wide variety of subjects."

"I once read a miscellaneous book that contained a record of this."

"It's just that it was so long ago, and I only read part of that book, so I didn't remember it immediately."

Yin Yang's expression became incredibly serious. "Teacher, this isn't some ancient fungus. This is an evil god fungus!"

"An evil god?"

Everyone in the room cried out in shock. A few of the younger assistants looked at Yin Yang as if he were a madman.

Some even thought Yin Yang was just trying to show off.

Yin Yang nodded and pulled an 'amulet' from his pocket.

"This is an amulet that expels the influence of evil gods. Although its power is weak, it should be enough for an evil god's influence of this size."

"We'll know for sure once we test it."

This so-called amulet was something Yin Yang had made himself.

He had crafted it while testing his abilities after breaking through to Sequence 6.

It had only one function: expelling divine influence.

As he spoke, Yin Yang brought the amulet close to the crystal ball.

The fungus inside twisted for a moment and then vanished completely.

"What the hell!"

"This... this!"

The three of them were dumbfounded. Mr. Yuan, being the closest, circled the empty crystal ball several times before suddenly looking at the amulet in Yin Yang's hand.

"Does this amulet work on those who are already infected?"

"I don't know, but we can try."

Big Beard Zhang couldn't wait any longer. "Try it! Try it right now!"

He led Yin Yang to the apple tree. Yin Yang held up the amulet, but the tree showed no change at all.

Seeing this, Big Beard Zhang said with disappointment, "It looks like it doesn't work."

Mr. Yuan also walked over.

"Are you stupid? Xiao Yang has been wearing that amulet. If it worked passively, wouldn't it have had an effect the first time Xiao Yang went to your lab?"

"Right, right."

Big Beard Zhang nodded. After thinking for a moment, Yin Yang handed the amulet to Mr. Yuan.

"Teacher Yuan, I'm not a transcendent and have no spirituality. I can only use this amulet passively. Why don't you try injecting some spirituality into it?"
