“Wow~ Boss, you’re truly amazing!”
“We just finished placing those turtle fridge magnets yesterday, and our boss tripped while coming down the stairs. He tumbled all the way down. The doctor said he broke three ribs and injured his ankle; he’ll be laid up for at least a month.”
The two office workers, who had looked as if their life essence had been drained, gazed at Yin Yang with faces full of admiration.
Yin Yang was a bit bewildered. He was certain those fridge magnets were completely useless.
It could only be said that their boss was simply unlucky and that the timing happened to coincide.
“I’m just glad they were of help to you.”
“Helpful? They were incredibly helpful! I feel completely refreshed now, better than if I’d taken a whole week off!”
The two office workers looked at each other and burst into laughter. However, they quickly realized they were in a coffee shop with other customers and hurriedly covered their mouths to stifle their snickers.
Yin Yang handed the prepared takeout coffees to them.
“Try not to talk about this too much outside. It’s best to avoid unnecessary complications.”
“We understand, we understand.”
The two nodded repeatedly, their expressions clearly saying, “This is our little secret.”
Yin Yang didn’t bother to correct them. Then, one of the office workers spoke up.
“Boss, give me one of your business cards. I’ll make sure our colleagues only order delivery from your place from now on!”
Yin Yang smiled and shook his head.
“That would be too exhausting. I prefer sticking to in-store business. If you like the coffee, just come by when you have time.”
The two looked at Yin Yang with envy.
They were still working like beasts of burden just to earn a bit more money, yet the boss in front of them turned down profit simply because he didn’t want to be tired.
“Sigh... I’m so jealous~”
The two lamented as they picked up their coffee and walked out.
Yin Yang returned to his reading, though his book had changed from 《Introduction to the Great Qi Language》 to a volume on Shang-Zhou history.
He hadn’t forgotten that the one nicknamed ‘Egg Fried Rice’ had called him a Yin Shang Remnant.
Because of that, he had recently sought out many books on the history of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. However, historical records concerning the period before the Zhou Era were scarce, often dismissed in just a few lines.
As he read more history books, he gradually discovered many loopholes or vacuum periods in history!
It was as if nothing had happened during those times, or the record skipped directly to the next era.
This made Yin Yang consider the idea of joining the True Knowledge Society. Those lunatics were skilled at investigating history and likely knew far more than what was written in books.
“History is quite interesting too.”
“Maybe I should find a place to study this professionally?”
Yin Yang rubbed the corners of his eyes. Reading for so long had made them feel dry.
‘That evil god recognized me as part of the Sacrifice pathway at a single glance and called me a Yin Shang Remnant. Why? Did the Sacrifice pathway only exist during the Shang dynasty?’
‘Wait, that’s not right. There were still sacrifices during the Zhou dynasty. Could it be that those presiding over the rituals then were no longer from the Sacrifice pathway?’
Yin Yang couldn’t quite figure it out. After all, he knew too little at the moment.
“Meow~”
A shadow surged behind Yin Yang, and a moment later, a black cat wearing a collar appeared on his shoulder.
This collar was a transcendent item Yin Yang had spent a fortune on for Canned Food.
Its function was to allow a cat to transform into any other breed of the same size!
The side effect, however, was that physical stamina consumption increased by half!
Previously, the cat could get full on one can of cat food per meal; now, it needed a can and a half.
“Meow~”
Canned Food rubbed against Yin Yang. Yin Yang continued reading as he asked, “So? How many streets have you conquered?”
“Meow~”
At the mention of this, Canned Food immediately grew proud, jumping down in front of Yin Yang and let out a couple of meows.
“Not bad. You’ve already taken over two streets.”
“But you must be careful. This is Central City. Don’t expose yourself easily, understand?”
“Meow~”
Canned Food gave an affirmative meow.
By now, Canned Food was capable of being Yin Yang’s assistant.
A Sequence 7 cat of the Killer pathway possessed even greater lethality than a Sequence 7 human!
Yin Yang was already looking forward to seeing Canned Food’s ability to ‘kill in dreams’ once it promoted to the Sequence 6 Nightmare rank.
Ding-ling.
The shop door was pushed open, and two security officers walked in.
“Hello, Boss. We’re from the Security Bureau.”
“Hello, hello.”
Yin Yang closed his book and stepped out from behind the counter with a gentle expression.
“Is there anything I can help you with?”
The two security officers waved their hands.
“Don’t be nervous, Boss. We’re just here to spread awareness about the dangers of cults.”
As he spoke, one of them pulled a flyer from his briefcase and handed it to Yin Yang.
“This contains information on the harms and characteristics of cults, as well as our contact numbers.”
“If you spot anyone suspected of being in a cult, contact us directly. If the information is verified as true, there will be a cash reward.”
“This order was issued by Wannian Platform. It’s a high priority, so the reward will be processed very quickly.”
“Oh, I see. Alright.”
Yin Yang took the flyer and glanced at it. In the most prominent spot, six large characters were written.
Dismantle the Shadow Lotus Church!
Seeing how cooperative Yin Yang was, the security officers waved goodbye and left. Yin Yang saw them out the door before returning inside.
He looked at the flyer in his hand.
Rather than a general crackdown on cults, it was more of a targeted strike against the Shadow Lotus Church. The ‘harms’ listed were all deeds of the Shadow Lotus Church, and there were several cases of reports listed below.
For example, a certain person in a certain city reported a Shadow Lotus Church stronghold and had now achieved financial freedom, and so on.
Yin Yang found it amusing. He walked to the counter, folded the flyer into a paper airplane, and casually tossed it into the trash can.
‘Striking the Shadow Lotus Church with such fanfare... it seems that certain person was quite provoked.’
‘For a member of the royal family capable of issuing orders from Wannian Platform, the target becomes clear very quickly.’
Yin Yang stretched and resumed reading his book.
He was in no rush.
...
Great Wei Library.
“Sir, that will be seven hundred and eighty yuan in total.”
“Alright.”
Yin Yang skillfully scanned the code to pay, then picked up the history books he had just purchased and prepared to leave.
“Sir, are you interested in the history of the Shang and Zhou periods?”
“Hmm?”
“Because I’ve noticed that almost all the history books you buy are about the Yin Shang Era. Do you have research requirements in this area?”
“No requirements, just a personal hobby.”
“I see. In that case, this might be of help to you.”
The cashier handed Yin Yang a flyer.
“This is for a lecture by a history professor, taking place this weekend.”
“If you’re interested, you can buy a ticket in advance. This professor has unique insights into the Zhou Era, and the ticket price isn’t high.”
“I see. Thank you.”
Yin Yang took the flyer and put it in his bag, giving the cashier a smile before leaving.
After he left, another cashier leaned over.
“Hey, how do you know that professor has unique insights into the Zhou Era?”
The first cashier watched Yin Yang’s departing figure and replied, “Of course I know. He’s my mentor.”
