Greg followed Juno to a meeting room.
This room was located at the end of a quiet side corridor in the Magic Tower. Its location was relatively secluded with few students passing by, making it a perfect spot for private conversations.
Juno stopped in front of the door and turned to him.
“Sarah is inside right now. I’ve already spoken to her in advance, so you can just knock and go in.”
Greg glanced at her. “What about you?”
“I’m not going in. I’ve already made the introduction, so my mission as the middleman is complete.”
As Juno spoke, she hugged the bag containing his pajamas tightly to her chest, an impatient look crossing her face.
“Besides, I have much more important things to do!”
Without waiting for Greg’s response, she turned and hurried away.
Greg stood there, watching her receding figure, and muttered blankly to himself, “…Did I just witness the birth of a Gold Miner?”
He shook his head to clear his mind of such stray thoughts. He walked up to the door, took a deep breath, and knocked.
“Please come in.”
A gentle and clear female voice drifted from inside.
Greg pushed the door open and entered.
Since the room’s only function was for conversation, the decor was simple. A dark brown wooden sofa sat against the wall, with a low tea table in front of it holding a pot of steaming black tea and two teacups.
The curtains were half-drawn, and soft morning light filtered through the sheer fabric, casting dappled shadows on the wooden floor.
Sarah, the Third Imperial Princess, sat on the sofa holding a book, her posture dignified and elegant.
She had short, golden hair that was neatly trimmed to her shoulders, with a few strands falling naturally across her forehead.
While her beauty might not reach the breathtaking level of a Primary Heroine, as an Imperial Princess, she was still exceptionally attractive.
Even in a simple white dress and a pale gold jacket, she radiated a soft, intellectual aura.
When she saw Greg enter, she closed her book, placed it on her lap, and spoke with a smile.
“Hello, Student Greg Sass. Please, have a seat.”
Greg sat on the sofa opposite her and nodded politely. “Greetings, Princess Sarah.”
Sarah poured him a cup of black tea and pushed it toward him. She then picked up her own cup and took a small sip before speaking unhurriedly.
“When I heard from Juno that the genius who showed such great prowess at the exchange wanted to see me, I was quite surprised. May I ask what this is about?”
Greg didn’t answer immediately. He picked up the teacup and took a sip first. After setting it down, he looked up.
“I do have something I wish to ask Princess Sarah. I heard that the Fifth Imperial Princess, who has been missing for half a year, has recently returned but will soon be executed. Is that true?”
Sarah’s hand holding the teacup paused slightly.
For a brief moment, her expression shifted into a mix of alertness and scrutiny.
She set the cup down. Her tone remained gentle, but it was noticeably more cautious than before.
“That is correct. The Imperial Family has already issued an official announcement, which I’m sure you’ve seen. But why do you ask? This shouldn’t have anything to do with you.”
Greg knew it was time to put on a performance.
His expression became agitated, and his voice carried a sense of suppressed urgency.
“How could it have nothing to do with me? For the past six months, I’ve been the one taking care of the Fifth Imperial Princess!”
“What—You…!?”
Sarah stood up abruptly, her sudden movement causing the teacups on the table to rattle slightly.
She hurried to the door, opened it, and peered outside to both sides. After confirming the corridor was empty, she closed the door again, locked it, and returned to the sofa.
Her gaze became sharp and serious as she looked directly at the boy who had recently broken all records of the exchange and earned a perfect score in his secondary defense. She lowered her voice.
“Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”
Greg met her gaze without flinching, his tone firm.
“I do. Because I truly was the one taking care of Wendy this past half-year, I don’t want to see her die like this.”
Sarah remained silent for a moment, her fingers tapping lightly on the sofa’s armrest as if she were deep in thought.
The crime the Crown Prince had leveled against her sister was the heavy charge of colluding with Demons.
If Greg took the initiative to associate himself with her sister at this time, no matter how brilliant he was, he would likely be implicated, potentially resulting in his future being completely severed.
He should clearly understand this, yet he still chose to come to her.
At the thought, Sarah couldn’t help but sigh.
If the person Greg was talking to wasn’t her, but one of her other sisters, he would have been seized and thrown into the dungeon the moment the conversation ended.
She also had a rough guess as to why Greg would risk ruining his future just to speak with her.
This youth likely loved her sister.
That was why he had sought her out so recklessly.
Sarah looked at Greg’s overly handsome face—his deep features, sharp contours, and those amber eyes that held a steadiness and resolve far beyond his years.
Another thought occurred to her.
Could her sister have suddenly run away from home six months ago for him?
So, it was a mutual pursuit?
Thinking of this, a wave of regret washed over her.
Given the talent Greg had displayed, combined with the rumors she had heard about House of Sass intending to restore his status as heir, he really would have had a chance to marry her sister.
Unfortunately, no one could change the fact that her sister was about to be executed.
She had returned to the palace every day to beg her father to change his mind, but the Emperor always shook his head with a weariness and helplessness she had never seen before.
It filled her with a deep sense of despair.
“…”
Sarah remained silent for a long time. The alertness and scrutiny in her eyes faded, replaced by a gentle pity.
She spoke.
“I understand. Since you care for her so much, I am willing to help you once within my power. Tell me, what do you need me to do?”
Seeing her relent, Greg secretly breathed a sigh of relief, though he maintained his composure on the surface.
“I hope you can deliver a letter to Wendy for me.”
Sarah was surprised. “Just a letter?”
“Yes, just a letter.”
Greg put on a sorrowful look.
“I know it’s impossible for me to save her with my current strength. But at the very least, I want her to know that someone out there remembers her… and someone cares.”
Sarah watched him, stayed silent for a moment, and then gave a small nod. “Very well, I promise you. Where is the letter?”
Greg pulled a prepared letter from his robe and handed it over.
There was no signature on the envelope.
Sarah took the letter, examined the envelope carefully, and then tucked it into her pocket.
“Once I return to the Imperial Capital, I will find an opportunity to give it to her.”
Greg stood up and bowed to Sarah. “Thank you, Princess Sarah.”
Sarah waved her hand, her tone gentle. “There is no need to thank me. I only… want to do something for a pitiful couple.”
Greg didn’t correct her misunderstanding, as this was exactly the effect he wanted.
After thanking her once more, he turned and left the meeting room.
Although Greg considered Sarah a hidden ally because she also hated the Crown Prince, he didn’t fully trust her.
The message he truly wanted to convey in that letter was written between the lines in a very subtle way.
Greg believed that if it was Wendy, she would surely be able to decipher it and pass back the information he needed!
Well… hopefully she can this time.
