Chapter 67 | The Alliance Hired Me to Play Final Boss

"WhatAreYouLookingAt" finally compromised, though somewhat reluctantly.

In short, the terms of the agreement were as follows: Ren Yi would use his status to mobilize the Holy City's forces to assist "WhatAreYouLookingAt" in finding and obtaining that special soul within the City of Stars.

In return, "WhatAreYouLookingAt" promised that her family would craft one Anomaly Artifact for him free of charge, provided Ren Yi supplied all the production materials himself.

As a guarantee, both parties agreed that after obtaining the special soul—the core material—Ren Yi would keep it for safekeeping. He would return it unconditionally once they were back in the Alliance and had signed a formal contract with "WhatAreYouLookingAt's" Parent.

Just as the agreement was finalized, another message from "WhatAreYouLookingAt" popped up in the Anomaly Web, as if she had suddenly remembered something urgent.

【Oh, right! We need an additional condition! Help me collect some progress points along the way.】

Ren Yi, currently in a great mood because he'd secured a spot for an Anomaly Artifact, replied almost instantly.

【Slime Flight Edition: Of course, no problem. What type of progress points do you need?】

【WhatAreYouLookingAt: Just killing mutant beasts will do.】

Ren Yi paused, slowly typing out a question mark.

Wait a second. We were talking so well; why are you suddenly trying to take the food right out of my mouth?

Killing mutant beasts to obtain energy was his core method of energy acquisition at this stage. He absolutely could not compromise on this.

【Slime Flight Edition: Look, classmate, to be honest, I'm also in urgent need of the energy obtained from killing mutant beasts. I'm afraid I can't agree to this request.】

At this moment, the matter of the Anomaly Artifact was secondary.

One had to be strong themselves to forge ahead; there was no room for ambiguity when it came to his "meals."

On the other side of the Anomaly Web, "WhatAreYouLookingAt" was clearly stunned for a moment. It took a few seconds before a series of explanations arrived.

【WhatAreYouLookingAt: Wait, wait, I didn't make myself clear! What I want isn't the "killing" process itself, but the "freshly dead" mutant beasts!】

Oh? Well, that wouldn't interfere with anything.

As long as he dealt the final lethal blow and successfully absorbed the energy light motes, what the other party did with the freshly dead mutant beasts had nothing to do with him.

【Slime Flight Edition: Oh, I see. In that case, no problem. By the way, what kind of energy do you obtain? Since we're cooperating, sharing some information will make it easier to coordinate, right?】

But "WhatAreYouLookingAt" didn't answer directly. Instead, she sent a message with a hint of smugness.

【WhatAreYouLookingAt: Heh heh, little brother, you just exposed your own Rules, didn't you?】

How was that possible? Ren Yi was taken aback.

Obtaining positive emotion energy by killing mutant beasts was something even Ren Yi found a bit abstract. How could she have figured it out?

【WhatAreYouLookingAt: Your energy source must be... emotions like despair or fear from a creature's death, right?】

Ren Yi: "..."

Fine. Your guess is also quite abstract, but I'll give you half credit for being close.

On the other end of the Anomaly Web, "WhatAreYouLookingAt" didn't notice Ren Yi's internal grumbling and spoke with increasing excitement.

【Little brother, that energy source of yours is quite common in our Alliance.】

【My Rules aren't really something to hide; you probably already know them. Besides that, I advance through "souls." I have to possess a host first, then slowly digest the host's soul. That counts as one complete meal.】

【Normally, the process of digesting a soul takes a long time—anywhere from a few days to several weeks. But the mutant beasts in the Three Cities World are a bit special.】

【Simply put, in the instant they die, I can still possess them on a soul level. Moreover, the souls of these mutant beasts are particularly easy to digest. I don't even have to leave my current body.】

Ren Yi understood.

On second thought, it made sense. The Three Cities World was a trial ground carefully selected by the Alliance. How could it only be beneficial to a single Anomaly Cub like him?

There were likely many others like "WhatAreYouLookingAt" who had found shortcuts to level up quickly in this world.

Just as the two of them finished ironing out the details of their cooperation, Gawain, who had been waiting nearby, finally couldn't hold back any longer and hurried over.

"Son of God, I didn't mean to disturb you... but news has come from the frontline units. The preparations for the nest clearing are complete. We can begin the operation."

"Ah, it's fine. I'm finished here." Ren Yi smiled slightly, stood up, and patted the dust off his clothes, maintaining the dignified posture expected of the Son of God.
