She became a green serpent, gliding through the waters by the Wei River, thinking that this life would pass in muddled obscurity. Then, one day, someone hauled her out of the water. The one who took her embroidered her into a totem, carried her into battle across all directions, adorning her with the traits of many tribal totems! From that moment on, the fate of the snake was bound to this land. Five thousand towering years! I have seen many people, I have seen many events. I have watched kings and ministers ascend the stage, and I have watched flowers fall, helpless against fate. I was the foremost contributor to the fall of Shang, the teacher of the First Emperor, a guest of Emperor Wu of Han, a friend of the Crouching Dragon. I witnessed the elegance of Wei and Jin, I beheld the grandeur of the High Tang. I heard the many graces of the Two Song dynasties, I sighed that Yongle was not truly Yongle. The totem raised by the Wei River is me, and the symbol of the Heaven-ordained Son will also be me! What? You ask who I am? My name is Qing Nu—Shaodian Qing Nu. Just a snake who longs to become a dragon.
