Chapter 10 | The Novel Marked Me for Death, So I Found a Cheat Game Instead

At the back of the crowd, as soon as Ye Lin received his disciple token, he bit his index finger and dripped a drop of essence blood onto it.

“Buzz!”

Just as the essence blood dripped down, the disciple token in his hand actually fused rapidly with the entry permit he had received at the city gate.

“No need to be surprised. The entry permit contains detailed information about your identities, and this disciple token is a necessity for the academy.”

“Both are very important. Fusing them like this is naturally for your daily convenience. If you don't understand, you can consult the freshman manual.”

Seeing that everyone was surprised by the fusion of the jade pendants, Deacon Wang Qian immediately spoke up to explain, then turned and left.

【Ding! You have surpassed all other players to become the first player in this game to leave the novice village. Congratulations, you have obtained the opportunity to change classes to one of the Top 100 Sequences of the Myriad Heavens.】

【Ding! You are significantly ahead of all players and have become the first player in this game to join a faction. Your class change reward has received the maximum luck blessing. Congratulations, you have obtained the opportunity to change classes to the unique special sequence of the Myriad Heavens, 【Lord of Heaven's Punishment】. Please check the detailed class change quest on your own.】

Just after activating the academy's disciple token, two consecutive game notifications rang in Ye Lin's ears.

“To think the reward this time would actually be a class change quest?” He was somewhat surprised.

The so-called class change was actually a way to enhance a certain aspect of one's abilities. To put it simply, in cultivation novels, it was similar to gaining a special physique.

For example, if an ordinary player with mediocre talent changed classes to an Alchemist, they would gain a talent for alchemy out of thin air. It could make their alchemy ten times faster than others, or it could guarantee a one hundred percent success rate in pill refinement.

If they changed classes to a Sword Cultivator, their attack power could be double, ten times, or even a hundred times that of others.

And the key that determined the strength of this special talent, or rather, the class, was the Sequence ranking. Generally, the higher the ranking, the stronger the class.

Of course, this was not absolute, because there would always be a group of people in the world who, even if given a heaven-defying class, would still play like complete trash.

And Ye Lin now had the opportunity to change classes to the special class that surpassed all Sequence rankings in the Myriad Heavens: 【Lord of Heaven's Punishment】.

“I can look at the class change quest later. The most important thing right now is to hurry to the Library of Scriptures and claim that great opportunity.”

Ye Lin did not let this sudden class change notification disrupt his original plan.

He quickly flipped open the map in the freshman manual. After confirming the exact location of the Library of Scriptures, he shot toward his destination like an arrow released from a bowstring.

Passing through several bamboo groves and walking along several long corridors, he met many relaxed, laughing young people along the way.

Half a quarter of an hour later, he finally arrived in front of an ancient wooden pavilion.

The pavilion had four floors in total. In front of it was a clear blue lake, with a pavilion sitting upon the water, and a large willow tree planted beside it.

At this moment, under the willow tree, a gentle and beautiful woman dressed in purple was holding an informal book, reading it with great interest, seemingly turning a deaf ear to the passing disciples.

Ye Lin had no intention of disturbing her or trying to make an acquaintance. The freshman manual stated that as long as one held their disciple token, they could pass through the protective formation of the Library of Scriptures.

Thus, without any hesitation, he gripped his disciple token and walked straight into the first floor of the Library of Scriptures.

Upon entering the Library of Scriptures, hundreds of bookshelves met his eyes, with various texts categorized and arranged on each of them.

At a glance, there had to be at least tens of thousands of volumes in this first floor's collection.

Even though these texts were categorized, trying to find the one most suitable for oneself would likely take a considerable amount of time.

Fortunately, his trait, “A Daily Immortal Destiny,” came with its own navigation guidance. With almost no effort at all, he spotted the ordinary cultivation manual indicated by the secret on a very remote bookshelf.

Following the instructions in the freshman manual, he pressed his disciple token directly against the protective golden light on the surface of the manual.

“Buzz!”

Once the verification succeeded, the protective golden light slowly receded, which meant Ye Lin had two shichen to copy or memorize this cultivation method.

But what Ye Lin wanted was not this cultivation method at all; rather, it was the final inheritance opportunity for that heaven-defying technique hidden within it.

【Ding! Special inheritance detected. Do you accept?】

Just as he took the manual into his hands, the game notification suddenly rang out.

“Accept the inheritance!”

Without the slightest hesitation, Ye Lin chose to accept the inheritance.

【Ding! Commencing inheritance transfer...】

As the game notification faded, a terrifying force appeared out of thin air, dragging his consciousness into an boundless starry sky.

Immediately after, a blood-red vertical pupil, so massive it was hard to describe with words, slowly opened in the starry sky before him.

“Boom!”

The moment that vertical pupil opened, a dark red light shot out from it. With such a zero-frame start-up, how could Ye Lin possibly dodge it?

Thus, he could only watch helplessly as the dark red light nailed itself fiercely into his left eye.

The next instant, his consciousness completely vanished from that space and returned to his physical body.

“Motherfucker!” Just as he returned, Ye Lin quickly checked his left eye. Fortunately, everything was perfectly intact, and his vision had not suffered any damage.

【Ding! Special inheritance accepted. You have obtained the taboo cultivation method 《Origin Unity Art》, and you have obtained a wisp of Origin Ancestral Qi.】

Just as Ye Lin was cursing in his heart, the game notifications, like an automated bot, continued to broadcast without fail.

Ignoring the game notifications, Ye Lin stood dazed for a good while before finally recovering from that immense terror.

“An inheritance made to feel like an attempted murder, seriously...” His lips twitched involuntarily as he placed the ordinary manual back.

With so many people around in the Library of Scriptures, it was not a good place to inspect or practice a taboo cultivation method.

So, after returning the ordinary manual, he pondered on what kind of spell to choose to increase his damage output.

“I have a mid-grade spirit sword in my hands, so I might as well choose a sword technique.”

Pondering for a moment, he walked over to the bookshelf holding sword techniques.

After some comparison, he ultimately chose a low-grade sword technique named 《Nine Shadows Ultimate Slay》.

This sword technique was renowned for its speed, striving to unleash nine strikes in the shortest time possible, combining the nine strikes into one to instantly kill the enemy!

Since he only had the right to use 《Nine Shadows Ultimate Slay》, the game panel could not record it for him.

But it did not matter; he had the trait “Diligence Compensates for Clumsiness.”

【Ding! Detected that the player is diligently memorizing a spell. The ‘Diligence Compensates for Clumsiness’ trait has activated. Accumulating hundredfold gains... Gains accumulated. Congratulations, you have achieved basic mastery of 《Nine Shadows Ultimate Slay》.】

With this trait that granted a hundredfold return on his efforts, even though Ye Lin's comprehension was ordinary, he still achieved basic mastery of this sword technique within fifteen minutes.

Compared to average geniuses with Earth-grade comprehension, this speed was absolutely faster, if not on par.

“Although my talent has increased tenfold compared to when I had a low-grade Spiritual Root, this comprehension speed is still too slow.” Shaking his head, Ye Lin was clearly not very satisfied with this efficiency.

However, he also knew that talent was a fundamental flaw that could not be rushed. Rushing was useless; without peerless treasures, it was simply impossible to improve one's talent.

And right now, he was just a minor cultivator with no background. Even if a treasure appeared, it would be very difficult for him to lay a finger on it.

Fortunately, he now had a way to overtake those top geniuses on the curves—by relying on the taboo cultivation method he had just obtained and the ‘Desolate Ancient Dao Pagoda’ that could be equipped at the Qi Condensation Stage.
