A young officer carefully examined the fallen Old Man Qin and shrugged with regret. "We’re too late. The caller is dead."
“You bastard, you actually dared to murder a civilian!”
Officer Liu’s voice was vicious. He pulled out a pair of handcuffs and threw them hard at Yue Shi’s face. “Cuff yourself right now! If you so much as twitch, don't blame me for being ruthless!”
“You haven't investigated anything, and you won't listen to my explanation. How can you be so sure I killed him?” Yue Shi’s voice was hoarse, his tone slightly drawn out.
“You’re standing right at the crime scene. If it wasn't you, who else could it be?” Officer Liu spoke without thinking. Then, seemingly realizing his words were improper, he pointed his gun at Yue Shi in a fit of rage.
“Who gave you permission to question me? You’re just a murderer. It’s not your place to speculate on the police's intentions!”
“Now, all you need to do is cooperate with the investigation. You only speak when I ask you a question. Otherwise... Heh.”
“A bunch of arrogant transcendents. Once you fall into my hands, I don't care if you're guilty or innocent—I’ll put you through the wringer first just to give you a lesson. Don't think you can do whatever you want just because you have a little power!”
The young officer standing nearby looked at the rambling Officer Liu with a face full of shock. Why was he blurting out his true inner thoughts like that?
The young officer gently tugged at Officer Liu’s sleeve. A flash of impatience crossed Liu’s face before he suddenly snapped out of it. His expression turned to one of pure shock, his eyes widening as he glared murderously at Yue Shi. “What did you do to me?!”
Even if he held immense prejudice against transcendents, he shouldn't have been so reckless with his words in public. Something was definitely wrong!
“Did you use a supernatural ability to interfere with my mind? According to the regulations, a transcendent using their powers on a public official without authorization constitutes a serious crime. I have the right to shoot you dead on the spot!”
Officer Liu wasn't joking or making an idle threat. He had already aimed his gun directly at Yue Shi’s eyes.
A transcendent’s physical constitution and vitality far exceeded those of ordinary humans, but their eyes remained fragile and were extremely close to the brain. If hit, the consequences would be catastrophic.
Yet Officer Liu didn't hesitate for a second, his finger already beginning to squeeze the trigger.
However, in the next second, every officer present fell into a sudden trance. A haunting, magical voice forced its way into their ears. By the time they regained their senses, they had all collapsed to the ground.
Yue Shi walked slowly to Officer Liu’s side and looked down at him. He contemptuously kicked the man’s face with his foot, his expression gentle but his voice cold enough to draw blood.
“Did you think that just because you're wearing an official uniform, I wouldn't dare lay a hand on you?”
Officer Liu was both terrified and enraged. “What are you doing? I’m warning you...”
“Shut up!” Yue Shi didn't want to hear any more nonsense, his gaze playful and mocking.
“You were planning to shoot first and ask questions later just now, weren't you?”
“Anyone who wants to kill me—regardless of their identity or how many 'justifiable' reasons they have—even if the King of Heaven himself showed up, I’d still kill them back. What do you think you are?”
During their few brief encounters, Yue Shi had keenly sensed that Officer Liu harbored a certain malice toward him. Now it seemed that malice was likely directed at the entire group of "transcendents."
Yue Shi didn't understand why Officer Liu held such a prejudice, nor did he care to find out. He wasn't interested in the officer's past; he only knew that death settles all scores. Once the person was gone, all grievances and complications would vanish with them.
Seeing that the situation was spiraling toward the worst possible outcome, a young officer silently tensed his muscles, reaching for his pistol while trying to soothe Yue Shi.
“There might be a misunderstanding between us. Calm down, don't be impulsive. Let’s talk this through. It’s just a small dispute; it’s not worth throwing your entire future away over.”
With his life on the line, Officer Liu wasn't so stubborn anymore. He softened his attitude slightly, though he still kept his neck stiff. “Young man, it’s not too late to stop now. Don't keep making mistakes, or you’ll definitely be wanted by the Investigation Bureau. You’ll have to spend the rest of your life on the run, never able to see the light of day again, worse off than a rat in a sewer!”
Yue Shi suddenly smiled, a look as cold as the reflection of a poisoned blade. “Don't talk nonsense. You all clearly encountered a supernatural attack while on duty and unfortunately died in the line of duty. What does that have to do with me?”
As he spoke, he pulled out two glass bottles. Inside, venomous bees with skull-like patterns on their backs flapped their wings sluggishly.
The moment the officers saw the venomous bees, they realized Yue Shi’s plan and began to struggle and resist with all their might.
“Everyone, stop. Don't bother with these useless actions.”
Raven's Secret Whispers scrambled their minds once again. Yue Shi took the opportunity to carefully open a small crack in the bottle caps and pressed the openings directly against the officers.
The bee stingers ruthlessly pierced their skin, injecting toxins. Fearing the venom from just two bees might not be enough, Yue Shi specifically targeted vital spots like their temples, carotid arteries, and throats.
The first few to be stung soon died after a series of convulsions. When it was Officer Liu’s turn, perhaps because the venom sacs were nearly empty, Yue Shi maliciously drove the stinger into his Adam's apple. His neck and airway swelled rapidly, making it impossible to breathe, and he suffocated to death.
This stubborn middle-aged man showed no regret or plea for mercy even in death. Instead, as death drew closer, the hatred on his face only grew more intense. His lips trembled, seemingly saying, “You’ll get what’s coming to you!”
Yue Shi didn't believe in retribution; he believed in violence. “I’m still alive, but you’re about to die. Whether I face retribution or not, you won't be around to see it. If you keep babbling, I might just send your whole family down to join you.”
To his surprise, Officer Liu was completely unmoved by the threat. The depths of his eyes continued to flicker with a mad, venomous spite as he continued his silent cursing until he finally drew his last breath, his eyes remaining wide open.
Yue Shi calmly crushed one of the venomous bees to death and left it at the scene as "physical evidence," then carefully put the other one away. The two little things he had asked Zhong Mo for last night had already come in handy today. Without them, handling this matter might have been a bit troublesome.
As a transmigrator, Yue Shi felt no sense of belonging to this world, nor did he have any attachments. Consequently, his style of doing things was quite unrestrained...
