“Eaten by me?
Are you kidding... wait!”
Zhang Ye suddenly thought of a possibility—since killing magical beasts allowed him to absorb their life energy and soul energy to strengthen himself, then... could soul essence be the same as soul energy?
So, as long as he killed a magical beast, his body would automatically absorb it?!
Damn!
The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Zhang Ye quickly found a Flame Rock Beast to test his theory.
Sure enough, after he slapped the Flame Rock Beast to death, the creature crumbled into a pile of rocks and lava while a firefly-like glow flew out. Zhang Ye hurriedly tried to catch it with the lamp, but the tiny light bypassed the lamp entirely and merged into his body.
Zhang Ye: “...”
It really was being “eaten” by him!
Zhang Ye scratched his head. What was he supposed to do now?
“Ella, is there... any way around this?” Zhang Ye asked in his mind.
Ella flew out, shrugged, and said, “There’s no way. This is an automatic function of the system’s cultivation. You can think of it as a ‘passive’ ability. You can’t control it yet; you’ll only be able to once you come into contact with the power of laws.”
Zhang Ye: “Ah... then doesn’t that mean I can’t collect essence? How am I supposed to compete for the top three!”
Zhang Ye was dumbfounded. If he couldn't collect essence, forget the top three—he didn't even know if he could pass the assessment!
You had to have over 500 points to even enter the rankings and be eligible for admission into the academy.
Just as Zhang Ye was struggling with the problem, Ella suddenly smiled.
“Actually, there is a way. As long as you aren’t the one who kills the magical beast, the essence won’t be absorbed by you.”
Zhang Ye’s eyes brightened at her words.
If the soul essence of a magical beast he killed would be absorbed, then it just had to be killed by someone else, right?
“Brother Ye, this...” Lina, standing nearby, looked a bit worried. But before she could finish, Zhang Ye suddenly grinned. “I’ve got it!”
“Lina, wait for me a moment.” As he spoke, he ran toward a Tier Seven Flame Rock Beast not far away. Then, under Lina’s bewildered gaze, he condensed a giant mana hand, grabbed the beast, and ran back to her.
The Flame Rock Beast was over six meters tall and shaped like a gorilla, yet it was being held in the giant mana hand like a little chick.
Lina stood there with her mouth agape, gaining a new understanding of Zhang Ye’s strength.
Lina felt that even if she exhausted all her mana, she would struggle to condense such a large and solid giant mana hand. Yet Zhang Ye looked completely relaxed. It was impossible to imagine just how massive his mana reserves were.
For a moment, Lina’s admiration for Zhang Ye grew even more.
After bringing the Flame Rock Beast over, Zhang Ye squeezed it a few times, leaving the creature on the brink of death and collapse. Then he said, “Come on, Lina, you kill it.”
“Huh?” Lina was stunned.
Zhang Ye explained, “As you saw, my constitution is special. The soul essence of any magical beast I kill is directly absorbed by me. So, you take the final blow.”
Hearing this, Lina didn't hesitate and nodded. “Alright!”
She drew a golden longsword from her space ring, injected it with mana, and swung with all her might. A sword light swept out and struck the Flame Rock Beast’s head, but its skull was extremely hard, and the blow didn't kill it instantly.
The Flame Rock Beast was almost in tears.
Can’t you two just give me a quick death?
One grabs me and kneads me like dough, and then this little girl hacks at me with a sword. Do magical beasts have no rights?
Seeing that the blow hadn't killed the beast, Lina’s face flushed red. She injected more mana into the sword and started hacking away.
Zhang Ye’s eyelids twitched as he watched.
Although this girl hadn't learned any magic, her mana was purer than others of the same tier, and her reserves were quite large. While not as monstrous as his, she was still impressive. Using the sword lights generated by the magic circles built into the golden sword, she was hacking away like crazy!
Just like that, the Flame Rock Beast turned into a pile of stones and lava amidst its own resentment, and an essence slightly larger than a Tier Six one condensed.
Sure enough, this time it wasn't absorbed by Zhang Ye. Instead, it was drawn in by Lina’s lamp and stored inside.
Looking at the essence in the lamp, Zhang Ye breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as they could get essence, it was fine; otherwise, things would have been too difficult.
However... if they continued like this, Zhang Ye would have to catch them and Lina would have to kill them. Since Lina’s lethality was limited—taking four or five swings to kill a dying Flame Rock Beast with her golden blade—Zhang Ye felt the efficiency was too low.
Was there a more efficient way to obtain essence?
Of course there was!
Robbery!
Just snatching other people’s lamps would do the trick.
Zhang Ye had considered this early on, but they had only been in the secret realm for a short time. Most people couldn't kill monsters as easily as he could. In fact, the Rock Beasts’ defense was incredibly high, and many people had to form teams just to kill one. So, Zhang Ye decided to wait a day or two until they had gathered enough essence before going on a robbery spree.
Hehehe...
So for now, he had to find a way to increase their farming efficiency.
Thinking about it, Zhang Ye’s gaze landed on the golden sword in Lina’s hand, and his eyes suddenly lit up. “I’ve got it!”
“Lina, do you have any more powerful weapons?” he asked.
Lina blinked, then nodded. “I do.”
With a wave of her hand, a pile of glittering golden weapons appeared on the ground.
Zhang Ye was left speechless.
This... this... this was way too many!
Zhang Ye knew the Salomon Royal Family was wealthy, and he expected the girl to have brought some treasures, but he hadn't expected this many!
There had to be over a hundred items piled on the ground!
Did you empty the national treasury before you ran away?
Not only that, but Zhang Ye could sense that a few of these weapons emitted powerful fluctuations!
Pseudo-Saint artifacts?
No, they were true Saint artifacts!
After analyzing them, Zhang Ye was completely floored.
This girl had pulled out two Saint artifacts alone: a Saint Staff and a Saint Sword. Even though they were only one-star, the Salomon Royal Family was way too rich. Letting a Tier Seven peak little girl carry Saint artifacts out?
Aren't they afraid of someone targeting her?
And...
Zhang Ye couldn't help but chuckle and said, “Lina, are you really this unguarded around me? Aren't you afraid I’ll rob you?”
“No, I believe Brother Ye isn't that kind of person.” Lina giggled and pointed to her eyes. “I can see good people, remember?”
Zhang Ye laughed loudly. “You’re right!”
As he spoke, he scanned the pile, and his gaze fixed on a pseudo-Saint artifact.
What was a pseudo-Saint artifact? It was a Tier Ten Treasure!
An existence second only to a Saint artifact!
That pseudo-Saint artifact was called the 【Pseudo-Holy Rain Staff】. It had several built-in Tier Ten spells, one of which was a large-scale offensive light spell called 【Pseudo-Holy Rain Judgment】!
The coverage of this 【Holy Rain Judgment】 could reach a radius of eight hundred meters.
Like 【Fire Rain from the Heavens】, it dealt cumulative damage, but its lethality was even more terrifying. If the cumulative damage was high enough, even a Tier Ten would die with regrets!
Zhang Ye had Lina put away the other treasures and then proposed his theory. “My current mana is enough to support the casting of a Tier Ten spell. However, I can’t be the one to cast it, or the essence of the killed beasts will be absorbed by me. So... this spell has to be cast through your hands!”
Commonly, the reason people couldn't use Treasures many tiers above them was that their internal mana was simply insufficient to support the Treasure’s full potential. Forcing it would overdraw their mana or even their life force. But the one thing Zhang Ye didn't lack was mana!
“I’ll cast it?” Lina shook her head upon hearing this. “I can’t do it.”
Zhang Ye smiled and said, “It’s fine, you’ve got me!”
“My mana can be converted into the purest light-attribute mana, which is compatible with you. By channeling the mana into your body, we can absolutely cast 【Pseudo-Holy Rain Judgment】 through you!”
Lina couldn't help but ask, “Can it really work?”
“We’ll know once we try. Hold the staff first,” Zhang Ye said, then reached out his hand. “Come, give me your hand.”
Lina nodded and placed her small hand in Zhang Ye’s palm.
Her hand was very soft and warm.
Zhang Ye gently squeezed her hand and said, “I’m coming in now?”
“Mhm, go ahead!”
In the next moment, Zhang Ye converted his mana into the purest light-attribute mana and injected it into Lina’s body.
At that instant, Lina felt a warm current surge into her, making every cell in her body let out a joyful cheer. This sensation was even more intense than the last time he had injected mana, causing her to moan involuntarily.
“Ah~”
Zhang Ye: “?”
He asked, “Is it uncomfortable?”
“No, it feels very good. Can you... give me more...” Lina said, biting her lip.
Zhang Ye nodded and increased the mana injection.
Immediately, Lina felt a level of physical pleasure she had never experienced before.
“Ah-ha~”
Zhang Ye: “???”
His brow jumped, and he couldn't help but ask, “Is it really... okay?”
Lina nodded vigorously, her voice laced with excitement. “It’s fine. It feels so good, Brother Ye, you can give me even more!”
Zhang Ye: “Uh... uh, okay.”
He increased the mana injection once again.
At this moment, Lina’s entire body lit up with a golden glow, as if she were bathed in holy light.
“Mm... ah-ha... it feels so good...” Lina lightly bit her lower lip, a lovely blush spreading across her face.
But the more Zhang Ye heard, the more it sounded wrong.
You’re acting weird!
I’m feeling weird!
This mana injection feels weird!
However, the effect was obvious. The golden gemstone at the top of the Pseudo-Holy Rain Staff in Lina’s hand had completely lit up, and a small magic circle was slowly rotating above it, signifying that the spell was ready to be launched.
“Start, Lina!” Zhang Ye said.
Lina nodded and pointed the staff forward.
Ding!
The golden gemstone at the top of the staff flashed, and the rotating small magic circle vanished. Simultaneously, in the sky hundreds of meters away, a massive golden magic circle with a diameter of eight hundred meters emerged. While the Flame Rock Beasts below were still dazed...
【Pseudo-Holy Rain Judgment】!
