Looking at Zhang Ye standing before him, Nan’s face instinctively darkened.
Why was it this guy?
After the examination ended, he had originally planned to stay far away from this fellow, intending to use him one last time and then sever all ties.
He believed that Zhang Ye would only hinder the speed at which he drew his blade.
Who would have thought that they would end up sharing the same dormitory?
“Oh, you’re in this dorm too.” Zhang Ye gave a cheeky grin and then asked, “Where did you run off to after the exam? I was going to invite you for some BBQ.”
Nan shot him a glance, then moved past him to head outside.
Zhang Ye hurriedly grabbed him.
“Let go,” Nan said, his brow furrowing.
Zhang Ye released him and said, “Don’t be so cold. After all, we have the camaraderie of having robbed people together...”
Of all the things to bring up, Zhang Ye chose that. Nan immediately placed his hand on his sword hilt, causing Zhang Ye to jump back two steps.
He couldn't say for sure about others, but Nan really would slash him.
Zhang Ye chuckled and asked, “Were you assigned to the Rainbow Class too?”
Nan took a deep breath and nodded.
Why did this guy keep pestering him?
What was he after?
“That’s great! We’ll be classmates from now on!” Zhang Ye said excitedly, then leaned in. “Can I discuss something with you?”
Nan took a step back to distance himself. After a moment of silence, he said, “Speak.”
If he didn't let Zhang Ye speak, the guy would definitely keep hounding him.
“It’s just...” Zhang Ye scratched his head. “Aren't there combat tests at the end of every month? If you run into Lina, could you maybe go a little easy on her?”
Nan’s brow furrowed slightly. “I never show mercy.”
Zhang Ye said, “I know, just... don't be too harsh, that’s all.”
Nan was silent for a moment before finally nodding and turning to walk away.
Watching his back, Zhang Ye thought to himself: What a cold boy.
Then, he couldn't wait any longer and ducked into the villa. As soon as he entered, his eyes lit up.
“Holy crap, this toilet is mana-powered and even has a heating function!”
Ella flew out and couldn't help but comment, “Why is your focus always so different from everyone else’s? The first thing you do in a villa is check the bathroom?”
Zhang Ye gave a sheepish laugh and then began wandering around the villa while holding Gujiu.
The villa was massive, with two floors totaling about four hundred square meters. It was designed in a minimalist style and was very comfortable, complete with front and back yards. More importantly, both rooms in the villa were equipped with Mana Gathering Circles.
It was truly luxurious!
One room door was tightly shut and wouldn't open; that was likely Nan’s room.
So, Zhang Ye chose the other room.
Collapsing onto the large bed, Zhang Ye rolled over comfortably while Gujiu bounced around on the springy mattress.
“Gujiu! Gujiu!”
It was clear that Gujiu loved this place too.
“How do I turn on this Mana Gathering Circle...” Zhang Ye began to investigate. He soon spotted a small booklet on the nightstand, which contained dormitory regulations and instructions for the facilities, including the Mana Gathering Circle.
Zhang Ye saw that the Mana Gathering Circle required points to activate.
It cost 10 points per day.
So, Zhang Ye checked his points through his badge and found that they had already been distributed.
As the fourth-place finisher in the freshman examination, he had one thousand points!
He then checked the points for the other rankings.
Good grief, first place got five thousand points!
Second place got three thousand, third place got two thousand, and fourth through tenth place all received one thousand points. Those from eleventh to five hundredth place got five hundred points, while everyone beyond five hundredth place received a flat three hundred points.
A single rank difference could mean a gap of a thousand points.
Zhang Ye felt a slight twinge of regret, but he didn't dwell on it. He went outside to meet up with Lina and Renomon.
However, when he got outside, he found two more people there.
One he recognized, Samanra, and the other was a new face named Copico.
The name reminded Zhang Ye of a certain brand of potato chips back on Earth.
“What are you doing here?” Zhang Ye looked at Samanra and asked with a smile.
After the events in the secret realm, Samanra’s attitude toward Zhang Ye had softened considerably. She smiled and said, “Lina and I are roommates.”
Zhang Ye nodded. No wonder Lina had such an excited smile; having a beauty as a roommate must have made the girl thrilled.
Copico was Renomon’s roommate.
He was somewhat handsome, with curly chestnut hair, bright chestnut eyes, and a few freckles on his face. He looked like a very sunny boy.
“Hello, I’m Copico!” Copico immediately greeted Zhang Ye with a smile upon seeing him.
“Hello, I’m Zhang Ye,” Zhang Ye replied with a smile.
“Where are we going now? The canteen? The arena? The library? We’ll follow your lead!” Seeing Zhang Ye’s gentle demeanor, Copico immediately loosened up.
Zhang Ye chuckled. It seemed this guy was a chatterbox too.
But he liked that, so he said, “Let’s head to the canteen first. Food is the most important thing, after all.”
“Let’s go, let’s go! I can’t wait!”
“You guys are all top-five experts. I’ll be counting on you from now on!”
Hearing this, Zhang Ye laughed heartily. “No problem!”
The five of them followed the map toward the canteen.
Upon arriving, they found that the canteen had seven floors. The food got better and more expensive with each floor.
But the high prices were justified.
Starting from the second floor, they served “Treasure Meals.”
Treasure Meals were delicacies cooked with ingredients rich in mana and nutrition. In terms of nutritional value, Treasure Meals were far superior to ordinary food.
Consuming Treasure Meals over a long period could even slightly increase one’s cultivation.
The BBQ Zhang Ye had eaten, made from high-tier magical beast meat, could also be considered a Treasure Meal.
However, within the academy, the currency used was not gold or Amethyst Coins, but points.
A regular meal cost one or two points, while Treasure Meals started at five points, and set meals were no less than ten points.
By that calculation, if a student outside the top five hundred had two meals a day, their points wouldn't last very long.
After all, those below Tier Nine still had dietary needs. Although one could go several days without eating upon reaching Tier Five, that was only if they weren't cultivating, fighting, or working. And how could one avoid those things in academy life?
So, most people had to eat something every day to maintain their bodily needs.
Fortunately, students could accept missions in the academy to earn points, or they could earn them through combat. This was the academy’s way of motivating students, which Zhang Ye found quite reasonable.
Access to floors above the second required higher permission levels.
Since none of them had eaten breakfast, they all used points to get a meal and chatted as they ate, getting to know one another.
Among them, young Copico was the most active.
He was a complete chatterbox.
“Have you heard? The top ten students in the academy are known as the Ten Kings!” Copico said.
Zhang Ye raised an eyebrow. “That’s so edgy. But I like it.”
“Each of the Ten Kings has their own title. As top-ten experts yourselves, have you thought of your titles yet?” Copico asked excitedly.
Zhang Ye scratched his head. “Is a title mandatory? It’s a bit embarrassing to say out loud.”
“It’s necessary! It’s said that these titles relate to your future titles when you reach the Saint-tier!” Copico’s body language was incredibly expressive as he spoke animatedly. “For example, the Ten Kings among the senior students!”
“‘Ice Fist’ — Fred!”
“‘Earth Guardian’ — Talia!”
“‘Flame Snake’ — Melte!”
“How about that? Pretty cool, right?”
Zhang Ye felt like the edginess was off the charts!
But then again, in a world of magic, it was only right to be this edgy.
“Oh, right! And the new goddess instructor this year, Leona!”
“Her title back then and her current Saint-tier title is — the ‘Red Lotus Lion’!”
“She’s the goddess of my heart! If I could marry her, I’d be willing to die even if...” Copico said excitedly.
Immediately, the atmosphere turned a bit strange.
Copico felt two gazes land on him, making him shiver involuntarily.
“Brother-in-law, shall we beat him to death?” Zhang Ye asked Renomon with a smile.
Renomon nodded with a grin. “Sure.”
Then, both of them stood up simultaneously, cracking their knuckles as they walked toward Copico.
Copico was startled, shrinking his neck as he stammered, “You... what are you doing?”
Zhang Ye looked at him with a beaming smile.
You dare try to steal my girl?
If I don't give you a thrashing, I’d be letting Big Nana down!
Renomon also looked at him with a beaming smile.
This little Tier Seven late stage punk actually wants to marry his respected elder sister?
If you want to die, I’ll help you!
“Um... just don't hit my face!”
