Chapter 48 | What If I Transformed Into the Zerg Queen?

Two days later, the clearing of the Goblin Kingdom was almost complete.

The frontline had been gradually reinforced to six thousand insects, and every single one of them was an upgraded variant.

Uniformly Tier 4 zerglings and Tier 5 hydralisks had become the current main force.

As the main army continued its eastward march, a city built behind a river came into view.

Tall city walls faced them directly, and soldiers could be seen patrolling atop them.

In this area, the view gradually opened up, revealing a flat region with sparse vegetation.

“A city-state?”

Mountains and river valleys carved up the terrain, isolating people in different regions from one another. This led to the formation of numerous city-states that communicated via waterways and inconvenient land routes.

On the surface, these city-states appeared unified, but internally, they were divided into many small factions.

Some small factions might consist of only a single city along with a few villages and towns.

Others occupied larger territories.

However, for Xia Jin, once she went to war with any one of these cities, the others would surely react.

“In light of your poor transportation, I shall prepare to invade without hesitation.”

With a single command, the swarm surged out from the dense jungle and began its charge toward the city.

...

Atop the city walls, the soldiers stared out at the vast, endless forest, bored out of their minds.

But soon, as small black dots began rushing out from the trees, a warrior standing on the ramparts immediately jolted and shouted to the officer beside him, “Sir, look!”

“What?”

The officer looked in the direction of the soldier's finger, and his pupils instantly shrank.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

At that moment, the hydralisks positioned at the rear fired volley after volley of venom.

In an instant, hundreds of acid globs flew like artillery shells across a distance of nearly a thousand meters, landing on the city walls.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The emerald-green liquid exploded like strange bombs, producing violent chemical reactions.

“Not good! Magic beast invasion! To arms!”

“Defend! Defend!”

The warriors immediately entered a state of combat readiness.

Several giant cannons flashed with blinding light, followed by a muffled roar. High-energy magic shells were spat from the barrels, quickly striking the advancing zerglings.

Boom!

A massive explosion occurred as flames soared into the sky, instantly blowing three or four insects to pieces.

The surrounding insects were caught in the shockwave and sent flying.

“Such power. Are these the famous magic crystal cannons?”

Witnessing the soaring flames through the shared vision of her insects, Xia Jin was quite surprised.

Fortunately, the fire rate of those magic cannons was not very fast, only allowing for three consecutive attacks per minute.

With five cannons in total, fifteen shots could kill at most twenty or thirty insects.

However...

That amount of time was already enough for the swarm to cross the thousand-meter distance and breach the city walls.

“Damn it! What kind of monsters are these? Mage unit, cast buffs!”

A commander walked to the edge of the wall and spoke to a group of people dressed in black robes.

The mages immediately chanted several incantations, and a wave of light swept across the entire scene.

Immediately after, the arrows fired from the warriors' hands gained an extra hundred meters of range, and their power increased significantly, each one capable of piercing through a zergling's body.

A faint, shimmering light screen appeared in front of the city walls.

Several acid globs hit the screen and splattered off like rain.

Fortunately, as the hydralisks increased their firepower, this thin light screen was quickly shattered.

The acid fell among the crowds once more, and countless screams rang out.

The lethality of the hydralisks' attacks was terrifying. In less than a minute, the hundreds of people guarding the walls were nearly all dead.

Even the officers were forced to retreat behind the walls.

The zerglings then nimbly scaled the wall structure. With a single leap, they landed inside the city-state and engaged the unprepared soldiers in close combat.

It was clear that the overall quality of this city's soldiers was only slightly higher than that of the goblins. Most warriors were at Tier 2 or Tier 3, and facing the zerglings, they were simply being slaughtered in a one-sided massacre.

Once the first few hundred zerglings broke through the restrictions and began killing their way down the streets, the fall of the city was practically a foregone conclusion.

To prevent anyone from escaping, two groups of the swarm split off to surround the city.

In less than half an hour, the city-state had completely fallen into Xia Jin's hands.

The knight commander arrived at this place in her stead, slowly walking into the governor's mansion.

The governor, who had initially thought it was a magic beast invasion, saw a man in knight's attire enter and finally realized that the attack had been launched by humans.

He simply could not understand why the man could command such terrifying creatures.

Facing the furious and bewildered governor, the knight commander walked to the seat that originally belonged to the man and slowly sat down.

“I am here on behalf of the great Zerg Queen—Xia Jin—to issue a declaration. From this day forward, this city will be under the control of the Zerg. Regardless of age or status, those who resist will be shown no mercy.”
