“They were merely test subjects. Once they're gone, they're gone. I am already in the process of creating a much more powerful war machine.”
Hecate did not care whether those Evernight Beasts lived or died. Instead, she showed a keen interest in the angel Ning Busan had brought back. “Is this your trophy?”
“...She should be called a captive.”
Hecate tilted Siphra's chin up. “I remember you. You often appeared by Surya's side.”
“To be remembered by you is my honor.” Siphra showed no fear on her face. She was calm and indifferent, as if she were facing an ordinary mortal rather than the God of Darkness.
“To be remembered by me is indeed your honor,” Hecate said with a laugh. “How loyal is your faith in the God of Light?”
Siphra said with absolute devotion, “God's radiance shines upon all. My existence is solely to serve Him. For God, I am willing to offer my everything, even my life.”
“Is that so?” Hecate's laughter was hollow and chilling.
Suddenly, she extended her finger. Her fingernail grew long and pierced straight through Siphra's temple, stirring around inside.
Standing to the side, Ning Busan shuddered.
He had no sympathy for Siphra.
But what on earth was Hecate doing?
So twisted!
A look of intense agony appeared on Siphra's face, as if she were undergoing some horrific torture.
But soon, she regained her composure.
Siphra knelt before Hecate, a purple glint flashing in her golden eyes. She said respectfully, “My God, Your most loyal believer offers her greetings.”
Hecate's chest heaved violently as she shook with laughter. She tossed an object to her. “A gift for you.”
It was a horn, forged from dark gold metal. The mouthpiece was carved with a miniature roaring beast head, its eyes inlaid with pitch-black gems.
It was small and exquisite, fitting easily in a single palm, yet it exuded a soul-stirring majesty.
Siphra said, “Thank you for Your gift.”
Hecate smiled playfully and waved her hand. “Dismissed, my little believer.”
Once Siphra had left, Ning Busan could not help but ask, “Did you alter her memory?”
“More or less.” Hecate laughed uproariously. “When the day comes that I march on Heaven, the very Seraph who was supposed to guard the throne will sound the war horn for me. Just thinking about that scene makes me ecstatic.”
Ning Busan's gaze turned somewhat subtle.
He felt that besides hatred, Hecate harbored another kind of emotion toward the God of Light.
She had said she did not need believers, yet she dedicated herself to stealing the God of Light's believers.
It was almost like...
Ning Busan asked, “Mother God, are you jealous of the God of Light?”
“Me, jealous of him? Hahahahaha...” After laughing for a while, Hecate's expression suddenly turned gloomy, her voice so sharp it nearly pierced Ning Busan's eardrums. “Yes, I am jealous of him!”
“He was born of light and order, ruling over day and hope. The people of the world love and praise him, and his believers are spread across the entire world.”
“But what about me?”
“I was born of darkness and fear. Negative emotions are the source of my power. Hatred, malice, jealousy, sorrow... these emotions nourish me like venom, yet they also corrode me.”
“The Silver-Crowned God took his third rib to create me, intending for us to maintain the balance of light and darkness in this world together.”
“But when my sanity began to crumble, he used his own body as a cage to seal me away, imprisoning me for ten thousand years.”
By this point, Hecate had already begun to mutate.
Her long hair transformed into venomous serpents, hissing and flicking their tongues. The scales on her snake tail stood on end like blades, splitting into countless squirming black shadows.
“I am jealous of him!”
“I envy that he has loyal believers! I envy that he can gain power without having to endure any pain! And I envy that no matter what, he can always maintain his sanity!”
“If the Silver-Crowned God had never created me, if the Silver-Crowned God had been just a little bit fairer, things would never have turned out like this!”
“It is all the Silver-Crowned God's fault!”
Darkness surged from all around Hecate, exuding a suffocating pressure and madness.
Ning Busan felt a slight panic.
If he had known Hecate would react so strongly, he would not have asked that question.
He was done for. It seemed he had stirred up a hornet's nest!
Hecate's half-human, half-serpent appearance gradually dissolved, turning into a chaotic mass of shadows, yet she said softly, “My child, you do not need to fear. Even if the day comes when I completely lose control, I will never hurt you.”
Although Ning Busan generally did not buy into other people's empty promises, he loved making them himself. “Mother God, no matter what you become, I will always stay by your side.”
Hecate gave a neurotic laugh. “Really?”
Ning Busan said, “Of course it's true.”
As time passed, Hecate slowly reverted to her original appearance.
Ning Busan let out a sigh of relief in his heart.
No wonder the God of Light had sealed Hecate away. He truly could not imagine what she would look like if she completely lost control.
Ning Busan asked, “Mother God, what is your next plan for the human world?”
Hecate raised an eyebrow. “Do you want to cause trouble again?”
Ning Busan put on an innocent face.
“Being soft-hearted is not a good thing,” Hecate said. “This world will eventually belong to darkness. Once I create new war machines, the human world will be reduced to nothing but ruins.”
Ning Busan said against his will, “That's wonderful.”
Hecate suddenly said, “There is another angel in the human world, though you have not encountered him face-to-face.”
Ning Busan was startled. “Another angel?”
“A Power, Michael.”
Seraphs guard the Divine Seat, Cherubs spread knowledge, and Powers excel in combat.
Michael, the leader of the angel army, is ranked among the four chief angels.
Ning Busan asked, “Why did the God of Light send him to the human world?”
“The Crown of the Divine King has appeared.”
“What is the Crown of the Divine King? Is it the Silver-Crowned God's crown?”
“Exactly, it is the crown of the Silver-Crowned God.” Hecate gazed at Ning Busan. “That belongs to you, so you must retrieve it yourself.”
Ning Busan paused slightly.
Hecate should know that he was merely a vessel to hold the godhead.
“The revival of the Silver-Crowned God is inevitable, but we can decide who exactly gets to be that Silver-Crowned God,” Hecate said in a low, eerie voice.
“I know you are merely a vessel, but you have inherited Satan's will, which makes you my recognized child.”
“The God of Light wants to completely erase your existence and let the consciousness belonging to that Angel card dominate your body. I will never allow such a thing to happen.”
“The Crown of the Divine King is yours, and the Silver-Crowned God can only be you.”
Ning Busan had mixed feelings.
If they could also agree on their attitude toward humans, Ning Busan would be more than happy to stand in the same faction as Hecate to deal with the God of Light.
Unfortunately, Hecate was a lunatic.
And to be honest, Ning Busan was not particularly interested in the Crown of the Divine King. What he wanted more was the authority of creation in the God of Light's hands.
Ning Busan asked casually, “What can the Crown of the Divine King do?”
Hecate curled her lips. “Within the domain of the Crown of the Divine King, slaying a god is effortless.”
Desire instantly flared in Ning Busan's eyes. “I will get it.”
No one else was going to take it from him!
