The Abyss.
Hecate pointed at the dense crowd of magical beasts before her, her tone filled with excitement. “My child, do you see them? They are my latest creations!”
The bodies of those magical beasts were condensed from thick shadows. They crouched like wild beasts, with long limbs and sharp claws and fangs.
Their faces were shrouded in darkness, their outlines blurry and indistinct. Only a pair of crimson eyes was clearly visible—cold, cruel, and burning with bloodthirsty intent.
“These are my creations,” Hecate introduced proudly. “They have no intellect, no fear, and no mercy. They have only absolute loyalty to me and an infinite thirst for slaughter.”
“They will become the sharpest weapons in my hands, sweeping away all obstacles for me.”
“I have named them—the Evernight Beasts.”
Ning Busan licked his lips, his voice a bit dry. “Mother God, don't you think your Evernight Beasts look a little similar to the xenos?”
Hecate grew angry. “Are you calling me a copycat?!”
“That's not what I meant.”
“That is exactly what you meant!”
“What are xenos anyway? They aren't even worthy of carrying your Evernight Beasts' shoes!” Ning Busan decisively changed the subject and asked, “Mother God, how strong are these Evernight Beasts?”
Hecate said, “This batch of Evernight Beasts is only at the level of high-ranking demons.”
Ning Busan could hear a trace of dissatisfaction in her tone, and he couldn't help but gasp.
The Evernight Beasts followed orders absolutely, would never betray her, felt no pain, and would fight until the very moment of their deaths.
No matter how one looked at it, they were indeed much more useful than demons.
No wonder Hecate didn't care about the loyalty of the demons; she was already manufacturing war machines.
Ning Busan asked, “Mother God, are you planning to go to war with Heaven?”
“No—” Ambition and madness burned in Hecate's eyes. “I want to conquer this world.”
Ning Busan egged her on. “If you want to conquer the world, you should start by attacking Heaven!”
It would be best if the God of Darkness and the God of Light clashed head-on, fighting to a mutual destruction where both sides suffered heavy losses.
However, while Hecate was insane, she was not stupid.
“Heaven is Surya's home turf and holds a natural suppression over me. Even if I want to wage war against him, the battlefield won't be in Heaven.”
“Similarly, Hell is my home turf, so Surya won't come to Hell either.”
The last shred of hope Ning Busan held finally died.
In that case, it could only be the human world.
The thing he feared most was still going to happen.
Hecate said, “I will send these Evernight Beasts to the human world to spread plagues, cause natural disasters, incite wars, and carry out slaughter, completely erasing all light and hope.”
“When the world sinks into darkness, that will be the time for me to march on Heaven.”
Ning Busan understood what she meant.
She planned to destroy the human world first, and then fight the final battle with the God of Light.
Ning Busan asked, “Just with these Evernight Beasts?”
Hecate said, “This is only the second batch of Evernight Beasts I have made. There is still room for optimization.”
Ning Busan realized something. “What about the first batch?”
“The first batch...” Hecate smiled slyly. “I've already sent them to the human world.”
Ning Busan asked, “When did that happen?”
Hecate curled her lips. “Before I came to Hell.”
Ning Busan's heart skipped a beat.
That meant it had been at least half a month.
“As your child, it is only right that I share your burdens.” Ning Busan adopted a look of righteous dedication. “Why don't I take the second batch of Evernight Beasts to the human world to start the war and announce your return to the world?”
Hecate narrowed her eyes, seemingly in thought.
After a long while, she stared at Ning Busan with a bizarre smile. “If you want to go and play, then go. However, there are angels in the human world, so you must be careful.”
Ning Busan guaranteed solemnly, “With me there, we're guaranteed to win!”
The moment he stepped out of the Gates of Hell, Ning Busan felt as though he were being watched.
He sneered, immediately using the Sea God's godhead to block the prying gazes of those two sets of eyes.
Mammon followed behind Ning Busan, asking with an odd expression, “Do you really plan to lead the Evernight Beasts to attack the human world?”
Ning Busan gave a calm grunt. Leading nearly ten thousand Evernight Beasts behind him, he headed straight for his destination.
His voice carried a faint trace of coldness as he gave the direct order: “Attack.”
The Evernight Beasts let out low growls and charged into the forest ahead without any defense, their heavy footsteps causing the ground to tremble slightly.
Suddenly, a sharp whistle pierced the night sky. The ground collapsed instantly, revealing a bottomless pit lined with sharp wooden spikes.
Unable to stop their momentum, the Evernight Beasts fell into the trap one after another. Spikes pierced through their bodies, and blood gushed out, dyeing the bottom of the pit red.
Elves emerged from the treetops one after another, holding longbows with arrows wrapped in pure light elements.
Their movements were swift, and their arrows pierced the night sky like shooting stars, exploding the moment they contacted the Evernight Beasts. They quickly dealt with the remaining beasts.
Ning Busan stood at a distance, watching everything coldly. There was not a single ripple of emotion on his face, as if all of this was within his expectations.
Mammon was completely bewildered by this absurd maneuver. “Did you deliberately send them to their deaths?”
“What nonsense are you talking about? How could I have known the elves would set a trap here?” Ning Busan, of course, denied it.
Mammon grew anxious. “How are you going to explain this when you go back?”
Ning Busan did not panic at all. “The God of Light has sent angels to the human world.”
“Not only did you lure the God of Darkness's Evernight Beasts to their deaths, but you also plan to capture the angels sent by the God of Light to report back.” Mammon asked in confusion, “Why are you doing this?”
He thought about it carefully and suddenly had an epiphany. “You don't want humans to be dragged into the war between the two gods. Your stance is with the human faction!”
Ning Busan asked, “So, shouldn't you return Novalia's magic talent to her?”
Mammon blurted out, “On what grounds?”
Asking the Demon King of Greed to hand over a collectible he had acquired through his own ability was practically dancing in his minefield.
Ning Busan crossed his arms and stared at him silently with a dark, intense gaze.
“You're the boss, you call the shots,” Mammon said with a sour face. “But you'd better think this through. Your actions are nothing short of playing with fire.”
“We'll take it one step at a time. It can't get any worse anyway,” Ning Busan said. “Give me Novalia's magic talent. I'm going back to the Dawn Empire, and you don't need to follow me.”
After Ning Busan returned to the Dawn Empire, he searched every possible place but still could not find the person he was looking for.
Thus, he could only go to see Novalia first.
The royal palace.
Novalia did not expect to suddenly see Ning Busan. Her face was filled with shock. “How did you get back?”
Ning Busan asked, “Where is Leo?”
A complex emotion surfaced in Novalia's eyes, her tone filled with guilt. “Emperor Leo, he...”
“He is dead.”
Ning Busan: ?
What kind of stunt was this guy pulling now?
