On the battlefield, amidst the surging mutant beast tide, the mountain of flesh composed of countless drow was slowly advancing toward the city wall.
Its chassis, covered in countless centipede-like limbs, shook the earth slightly with every coordinated step forward.
Boom... Boom... Boom...
Amidst the dull thuds, the drow faces that densely dotted the entire mountain of flesh like sesame seeds were not idle either.
After a brief pause to recover from the damage their previous shriek had inflicted upon their throats, those exquisite faces began to move once more.
The mouths on these faces slowly opened from their closed state.
Wider and wider...
Even after reaching the physical limit of what a humanoid could achieve, they did not stop.
The skin on these drow faces was forcibly torn apart, the corners of their mouths ripping all the way to their ears to reveal the bright red muscle groups beneath.
Then, their jawbones dislocated directly, allowing their mouths to stretch even wider.
And all the more horrifying.
In just a few seconds, these faces, which could once have been considered peerless beauties, became exceptionally grotesque. Most of their features were now consumed by giant mouths filled with spiral-shaped tumors.
Combined with the numb, hollow gazes in the eyes of these drow,
they looked exactly like cold-blooded, ruthless pythons preparing to swallow still-breathing prey whole.
Or perhaps like pre-programmed flesh-and-blood machines, numbly and efficiently executing the tasks they were designed to perform.
Yet, just as they were preparing to unleash another wide-range sonic attack—with power no less than that of high-tier magic—through this near-self-mutilating method,
a shooting star carrying a pale trail charged straight toward them!
It moved so fast that the air was forcibly torn apart. As it produced a series of sonic booms, it seemed to pierce through layer after layer of invisible barriers, kicking up ring-shaped shockwaves in its wake!
Faced with this sudden turn of events, the drow mountain of flesh was clearly caught off guard.
Their mouths, which they had dislocated just to better unleash their sound waves, now looked as if their jaws had literally dropped in shock at the oncoming meteor.
But soon, the countless eyes on the mountain of flesh clearly saw the approaching figure.
Only then did they realize that what was rapidly expanding in their vision was not a meteor at all.
It was a figure.
At this moment, like a flash of lightning striking through the minds of the countless drow composing the mountain of flesh, they all received a single message.
It consisted of two very simple words.
Enemy!
It was the enemy!
Having received the Matriarch's command, the mountain of flesh acted instantly, causing the throats of all the drow to vibrate violently.
Instantly, a shriek even more violent than before—sounding like a million geese squawking in unison—erupted from the mouths covering the mountain of flesh!
“Aaaaaah!!!”
This sound wave was so powerful that it formed a visible shockwave.
Bang!
The sound wave collided heavily with the meteor.
The meteor's speed plummeted instantly. It was like a fish swimming gracefully in clear water suddenly plunging into thick, viscous mud; where a gentle flick of its tail would have carried it far, it now struggled to move even a single step.
The mutant beast herd directly in front of the mountain of flesh was also caught in the crossfire.
These creatures happened to be right in the path of the sonic blast. As tens of thousands of drow shrieked in unison, the affected mutants were swept away like fallen leaves, along with a layer of soil from the ground.
A fan-shaped clearing was instantly carved out.
Yet, before these mutated creatures could even hit the ground, the 'fish that had swum into the mud' violently swung the chainsword in her hand.
Swish!
A silvery-white sword qi erupted from the serrated blade, cutting through the near-tangible sound waves and hurtling toward the mountain of flesh with a twisted, piercing screech.
It was as if... it had sliced open space itself!
Behind the sword qi, Irene flapped her dragon wings. Her speed surged once more as she closely followed the 'Wind Blade Spell' that sliced through the air, charging toward the mountain of flesh.
But just as the wind blade drew near, the drow heads on the mountain of flesh stopped shrieking. Their dead-fish eyes, identical to those on a stargazy pie, locked onto the incoming wind blade in unison.
Suddenly, countless tentacles burst from the gaps between the thighs and layers of fat that made up the mountain of flesh!
These tentacles varied in thickness; the thickest were as wide as water buckets, while the thinnest were no thicker than a child's finger.
Their surfaces were a dark grayish-black, matching the skin tone of the drow, and they were coated in a thick layer of slimy mucus that glistened under the moonlight.
At this moment, all of these tentacles surged forward to meet the oncoming 'sword qi'!
Swish!
The foremost tentacles were the first to collide with the sword qi. The sharp energy sliced into them with ease, cutting through them as smoothly as a hot knife through butter.
But before the sword qi could enjoy its 'effortless' progress, the resistance wore it down as it cut deeper.
Until it finally dissipated into nothingness.
The remaining tentacles continued to surge forward.
With a series of sharp whooshes, Irene easily dodged the sweeping tentacles.
She danced like a butterfly amidst a sea of writhing tentacles.
With a tilt of her body or a quick shift, she brushed past the slimy appendages.
From time to time, she would even step on the wider tentacles to propel herself forward.
Then, the chainsword in her hand let out a low hum. With a flash of white light, the tentacles that looped back to try and ensnare her were severed cleanly in half.
Thick, viscous fluid instantly sprayed from the severed ends.
The severed portions of the tentacles fell limply from the sky, crashing into the beast tide that was still mindlessly charging toward the city wall.
This caused a large number of mutated beasts to abandon their charge on the spot, turning to fight over and devour the tentacles, which were still writhing and curling by instinct.
Yet, before they could even tear a piece of flesh from their prize, they were often dazed by another heavy tentacle crashing down from above with a loud thud.
Within just a few moments, more and more tentacles rained down from the sky.
These severed limbs fell in various states: some were cut cleanly in half, largely intact, while others had been sliced into neat, uniform segments.
The falling pieces of various shapes and sizes looked like a bizarre... rain of tentacles!
As for Irene, she looked like a diligent gardener at this moment.
The chainsword in her hand was her tool for pruning the garden.
And the drow mountain of flesh... was the plant she was trimming.
Amidst the flashing cold light, every single tentacle rushing toward her was severed.
At the same time, the distance between them was shrinking rapidly.
From this distance, Irene could even clearly see that the reason these drow could be piled together without collapsing was that they were like conjoined twins; most of their flesh had pressed together and fused.
They had seemingly become a single entity.
But this was only on the surface.
From Irene's perspective, every single drow was still an individual living being.
It was just that their souls were now trapped within the bodies that once belonged to them.
As for how she knew this...
It was because at this moment, the prayers from the very depths of these drow's hearts were constantly echoing in Irene's ears.
Or perhaps... they were pleas?
These pleas were filled with pain and wailing.
Summarized into a single sentence, they all shared nearly the same meaning.
And that was...
“Kill... Kill me!”
