Perhaps because these pleas were too intense, Irene seemed to see... extremely distorted expressions of pain on the dense crowd of drow faces covering the mountain of flesh.
Indeed.
These drow were yearning for death.
Perhaps to them, death had already become a form of release.
‘Is this your final wish?’
Irene murmured to herself in her heart as she rapidly closed the distance.
She seemed to be asking.
But how could these souls, who had long lost most of their sense of self in the endless depths of pain, possibly answer her?
Yet, right as she was about to collide with the mountain of flesh, as if she had heard the drow's reply, Irene's lips parted slightly, uttering two words: “In that case...”
Then, the chainsword in her hands let out a low hum. Gripping it with both hands, she swung it forward with a crushing pressure that seemed to tear through space itself.
As she swung, violent mana surged from her body, flowing through her fair hands and onto the chainsword.
And so, this chainsword named Frostmourne began to grow larger, longer, and stronger!
In an instant, the blade, which was originally less than two meters long, was forcibly extended to over ten meters by the raw mana.
It was an elemental blade condensed from a layer of pure mana!
At this moment, Frostmourne had become a literal... ten-meter-long blade.
“Swish!!!”
Wherever the blade passed, waves of air-rending screeches echoed like the roars of a dragon.
It was space itself roaring!
Amidst the tearing sound, it also brought an answer that sounded like salvation.
“I shall grant your wish.”
“Slash—”
A flash of white light erupted, and a figure appeared behind the drow mountain of flesh, slamming heavily onto the ground. The powerful shockwave instantly blew away the surrounding mutants, creating a vacuum cleared of everything but swirling dust.
Before the dust could even settle, a soft exhale was heard.
“Phew...”
A ring of fire suddenly erupted, rapidly spreading outward. It cleared the dust while pushing back the mutants that were attempting to rush forward.
At the center of the ring of fire, Irene knelt on one knee with her head lowered, both hands gripping the hilt of the chainsword, most of its blade driven deep into the ground.
In the next moment, Irene raised her head, shifted to a one-handed grip on the sword, and slowly stood up.
At the same time, with a sharp squelch, the massive mountain of flesh behind her split open at its midpoint. A terrifying wound tore almost all the way across the mountain, spraying thick, blackish-red blood outward like a torrential waterfall.
Propelled by such a massive gush of blood, the mountain of flesh actually began to slowly tilt backward.
With a deafening boom, it crashed heavily onto the ground.
Amidst the rising dust, Irene turned around, resting the chainsword on her shoulder. Her brilliant golden eyes pierced through the dust to look at the mountain of flesh.
Most of the drow faces on it still had their jaws dislocated, their expressions frozen in time.
In their dilated pupils, there seemed to be a hint of relief.
“It's over...”
But before she could finish her sentence, the eyes of the drow in front of her suddenly flared with a spark of life.
Clearly, she had underestimated the vitality of these mutants.
Realizing this, Irene frowned slightly. Just as she was about to deliver a finishing blow, the entire mountain of flesh shuddered, and all the drow erupted once more into a sharp, unified shriek.
Caught off guard, Irene felt a sharp pain in her ears.
Then, her consciousness felt as though it was being forcibly dragged out of her body.
‘An illusion spell?’
‘Were these drow psionic sorcerers when they were alive?!’
Realizing this, Irene hastily took half a step back, attempting to instantly cast Blink to open up some distance.
But it was already too late.
Her mind was twisted in the next instant, and the scene before her warped, transforming into a different sight.
It was the scene she feared most in the depths of her heart...
Watching helplessly as a dragon slayer cut off her head, drained her dragon blood, and ripped her belly open.
And finally...
Amidst a chorus of laughter, the dragon slayers pulled an unformed dragon egg from her stomach.
‘Fuck! You're the one laying eggs!’
Irene, instantly losing her cool and turning as red as a boiled lobster, relied on sheer willpower to forcibly shatter the illusion, blurting out a classic curse from her past life.
But before she could vent the anger in her heart, she saw hideous faces rapidly expanding in her vision.
It was the mountain of flesh, crashing down right on top of her!
At this speed, at this distance.
It was already impossible to dodge!
“Boom!”
A dull thud echoed.
The drow mountain of flesh, like Mount Wuzhi, crashed down heavily and pinned Irene beneath it, causing the ground to violently shudder as if struck by an earthquake.
...
“Crack—”
On the city wall, Arthas, who had been hovering in the air to watch the entire battle, clenched his fists tightly upon witnessing this. The soul fire hidden beneath his helmet instantly flared up high, and he immediately prepared to rush out to save the dragon.
But just as he made his move, a calm and powerful voice interrupted him.
“Do not worry, Your Grace will be fine.”
“After all... she is our Queen...”
Arthas paused in his tracks and slowly turned around. From his diagonal rear, around the corner of the stairs leading up to the city wall, a kobold clad in crimson power armor stepped out with firm, resolute strides.
One of his eyes was golden, while the other was an eerie red.
Combined with a hideous scar that ran diagonally across half his face, the first impression he gave, aside from sheer dominance, was pure ruthlessness.
Right behind him, a green-skinned beastkin wearing a white lab coat and sporting a single cowlick on his head stepped out from around the corner.
Compared to the former, this beastkin's appearance was much more ordinary.
However, the steampunk-style mechanical arm on the left side of his body and the mechanical eye replacing his right eye made it very difficult to ignore him.
“You're late,” Arthas said, seemingly assessing the situation as the burning soul fire beneath his helmet gradually died down. Descending from the air, he spoke, revealing the identities of the newcomers. “Grand Commander Fido, Chief Gar.”
“Hehe...” Fido let out an embarrassed laugh, the murderous aura around him instantly dissipating by more than half. He shook his head and walked over to the parapet on his own, gazing at the distant mountain of flesh that was slowly twitching as if digesting its prey. “Weren't we busy looking for our Queen?”
As he spoke, Fido suddenly reached out to the side and grabbed a mutated lizard that had managed to climb up the city wall with great difficulty. With a squeeze, he crushed the lizard's head, then let go. The headless lizard tumbled down the wall, causing a large crowd of mutants below to fight over and devour it.
At that exact moment, a blinding crescent of flame suddenly pierced through the mountain of flesh and shot out. Immediately following it was a second, then a third...
