With just that single look, Mind Freya could determine that the other party was definitely an extraordinary of the Scholar Pathway at Rank Three or higher. After all, only a Scholar could see through Psychological Invisibility.
However, the other party withdrew his gaze after glancing at Mind Freya once, and Mind Freya didn't pay it much mind either. As complete strangers who didn't know each other, there was naturally no conflict between them.
But as they walked, upon passing a certain intersection, the hypnotized Death Pathway extraordinary in front turned left, heading toward the police station. Mind Freya, on the other hand, turned right to go home. Then, she watched as the elderly Scholar also turned right.
Seeing this, she cast another glance at him, and he did the same to her.
Subsequently, the two of them stopped one after the other right in front of Euphy's rented apartment. Since they were both standing here, they certainly couldn't be ordinary strangers. Mind Freya thought for a moment and said, “Are you... Euphy's grandfather?”
Since he was definitely of the Scholar Pathway, elderly, and clearly here for Euphy, who else could he be but Euphy's grandfather?
And that indeed proved to be the case. The old man nodded and said to Mind Freya, “Are you Euphy's friend? That girl named Freya? But that's not right. Didn't Euphy say Freya is an ordinary person? Yet you are a high-ranking extraordinary of the Mind Pathway.”
This sudden visit from a parent figure was truly unexpected. Mind Freya wiped away the nonexistent cold sweat on her forehead and said, “Uh, I'm not Freya, but I am also Euphy's friend.”
The old man couldn't help but look at Mind Freya a bit more. If he hadn't known Euphy was already at Rank Four, he probably would have suspected that Mind Freya had brainwashed or hypnotized her. In her letters, Euphy had never mentioned having a friend from the Mind Pathway.
It had to be said that the Mind Pathway's reputation in the extraordinary world was indeed not very good.
Then, an even more awkward situation arose. Since Mind Freya usually stayed inside the house and never went out, she naturally didn't have the habit of carrying keys with her. Moreover, she had been pulled out this time through the system's teleportation mechanism by the main body, so she had absolutely no way of opening the door now.
Meanwhile, War Freya was out shopping and eating with Euphy. War Freya's expression suddenly stiffened, and she said, “Euphy, your grandfather is here to see you! He's right outside your door!”
Euphemia went, “?”
Euphy paused mid-bite. “Grandfather? What is he doing here?”
War Freya said, “How should I know? Anyway, hurry back. My Mind Pathway clone is already in an awkward standoff with your grandfather at the door.”
Euphy didn't hesitate either. She quickly stuffed a few more bites of food into her mouth and immediately got up to leave. Of course, before they reached the house, War Freya said, “I'll disappear first, then.”
With that, she was recalled into the system. After all, having an extra person would only mean more trouble to explain later. And don't forget, the War Pathway's reputation was actually even worse than the Mind Pathway's.
When Euphy returned to her front door, she saw Mind Freya sitting on the ground with a well-behaved look, her arms wrapped around her knees, and standing tall and straight right beside her was her grandfather, 【Augustus M. Holmes】.
Euphy immediately waved and said, “Grandfather! Why are you here?”
Augustus looked at Euphy, and his originally stern face instantly broke into a warm, gentle smile. He didn't speak, simply opening his arms first, and Euphy cooperatively trotted over and threw herself directly into his embrace.
The two embraced for a moment before parting. Augustus patted Euphy's head and said, “What, can't I come and visit my granddaughter because I care about her?”
Euphy said, “But aren't you very busy, Grandfather? Don't you have a bunch of other things to do?”
After all, Augustus was a Rank Five Artisan. Normally, many people would surely commission him to make various extraordinary items. But Augustus replied, “How could any of those trivial matters compare to my adorable granddaughter? I've pushed them all aside. Let them wait!”
“Alright, we can't just chat at the door, can we? Aren't you going to invite me in?”
Only then did Euphy take out her keys to open the front door. Once the two went inside, Mind Freya, who had been squatting on the ground, tiptoed in after them and closed the door behind her.
She had no intention of interrupting the grandfather and granddaughter. After entering, she trotted toward the bedroom, wanting to leave the space to them. However, Augustus waved his hand at Mind Freya and said, “You come along too. I'm quite curious about Euphy's friends.”
Mind Freya's attempt to escape stiffened. Having no choice, she could only follow them into the living room and sit down next to Euphy.
Simply put, Augustus's reason for coming to find Euphy was very straightforward: Euphy's advancement speed was simply too fast. How long had it been, and she had already advanced two ranks in a row? Augustus was worried that there might be some hidden dangers, so he had come to check on her.
Hearing this, Euphemia said, “There won't be any problems at all! I have a very good friend of the Earth Pathway. She can help me check the digestion of my potion.”
Augustus muttered, “The Earth Pathway? But why haven't you mentioned this friend to me before?”
Quite contrary to the Mind and War Pathways, the Earth Pathway had an exceptionally good reputation. If someone of the Earth Pathway told you that your potion was fully digested, then it was truly digested. It was virtually unheard of for someone of the Earth Pathway to intentionally deceive others.
Euphemia pouted. “Grandfather! Isn't it perfectly normal for me to have many friends? How could I possibly tell you about every single one of them?”
Augustus asked, “Then why do you frequently mention that friend named Freya?”
As soon as those words were spoken, Euphy instantly choked up. She forcefully suppressed the urge to look at Mind Freya, instead pretending to be calm as she said, “She is my best friend, so isn't that only natural?”
Augustus showed a meaningful expression. “Your... 【best】 friend?”
Especially when saying the word 【best】, Augustus deliberately emphasized it. He knew his own family best; what kind of person Euphy was, and what her preferences were—how could Augustus, as her grandfather, not know? Not to mention, Augustus was a Rank Five Scholar with extremely high observation skills and intelligence.
Euphy immediately retorted, “Yes! What about it? Is there a problem?!”
Augustus smiled. “Of course there's no problem. As long as you like it.”
It was hard to say whether he simply doted on Euphy too much or if his outlook was incredibly open-minded, but Augustus didn't care about this sort of thing at all. Of course, another reason was that the Holmes family had many children. Euphy had at least seven or eight siblings, so it didn't matter at all even if Euphy had no descendants.
However, Mind Freya, sitting beside them, listened with a face full of question marks. What on earth were these two talking about?
