Chapter 84 | Miss Destiny's Speedrun Manual

The white-masked man said, “But why are people from the Holy Blessing Society here?”

War Freya casually snapped the neck of the guy she was holding, killing him, then shrugged. “Who knows?”

From the memories of the scammer exorcist, she knew that the Holy Blessing Society's core objective was to resurrect an evil god called the Earthly Curse. However, as for how they planned to do so, it wasn't in the scammer's memories, so War Freya naturally didn't know either.

The white-masked man said, “This won't do. Let's suspend the gatherings for a while. I won't organize another one until this crowd leaves the city. Everyone, you should go into hiding for now.”

Thanks to War Freya's presence, only a few people were injured in the initial wave of this ambush, and not a single person lost their life.

The white-masked man looked at War Freya and said, “In any case, miss, we owe you our lives this time. Thank you!”

War Freya waved her hand. “It was nothing. But could you tell me more about this Holy Blessing Society?”

The white-masked man said, “Of course, but not right now. Let's get out of here first!”

He activated his ability to completely seal off the area where the Holy Blessing Society members had descended from, and everyone quickly evacuated through an entirely opposite passage.

By the time they reached the surface and entered the tavern, their bizarre masks naturally drew the attention of the patrons around them. However, now was not the time to worry about such details. The crowd scattered instantly, heading in different directions, while War Freya naturally followed behind the white-masked man.

After leaving the tavern, the two turned into a nearby alley. The white-masked man then took off his mask, revealing a very young, almost boyish face.

War Freya was slightly taken aback by this. She then took off her own mask, and upon seeing her face, the young man was also visibly stunned.

War Freya asked, “Is something wrong?”

The other party replied, “No, it's just... you're much prettier than I expected. I thought you'd be one of those fierce-looking people with a face full of scars.”

War Freya's lips twitched slightly. “Same to you. You're much younger than I expected.”

Only then did the youth introduce himself, “You can call me 【Shaw】.”

Clearly, Shaw's act of taking off his mask and introducing himself was a sign that he wanted to make friends with War Freya. After all, her display of power just now had been far too overwhelming—directly kicking a member of the Holy Blessing Society into a mist of blood.

Without exaggeration, Shaw felt that the clay golem he had painstakingly crafted wouldn't even be able to take a single hit from War Freya before being completely shattered.

War Freya thought for a moment and said casually, “Then you can call me 【Nicadori】.”

“Nicadori?” Shaw looked puzzled, as it didn't sound like a name a girl would have at all. And indeed, in a game called Honkai: Star Rail, this was the name of a 【God of War】.

However, Shaw didn't overthink it. He then proceeded to share everything he knew.

As mentioned before, there were four mainstream faiths and four major churches in this world: Earth, Ocean, Sun, and Moon.

But aside from these, many niche beliefs naturally existed, and the Death God was one of them. Although "death" didn't sound like a pleasant word, the people who worshiped the Death God weren't inherently evil.

Although most members of the Holy Blessing Society were extraordinaries of the Death Pathway, they had merely obtained the recipe for the Death Pathway potion from somewhere. They didn't actually worship the Death God; they were simply utilizing this power.

Rank One potions were very cheap, and it just so happened that the Death Pathway offered high combat capability at Rank One. Thus, the Holy Blessing Society prepared a large number of Death potions for their believers.

As long as they passed the screening and successfully joined the society, they could directly obtain the potion, become an extraordinary of decent strength, and then work and risk their lives for the organization.

Shaw said, “This cult's brainwashing ability is comparable to that of a Mind Pathway extraordinary. I really don't know how they do it. Without using any extraordinary abilities, relying solely on their words, they can brainwash these guys into lunatics who don't even care about their own lives.”

War Freya couldn't understand it either, but then again, in her past life, even in the information age, weren't there plenty of people who were completely brainwashed by cults?

In comparison, someone like the scammer exorcist, who hadn't been brainwashed and had instead managed to swindle the Holy Blessing Society, was truly impressive.

Shaw said, “From what I know, the Holy Blessing Society's favorite tactic is to use these brainwashed cannon fodder to overwhelm and kill powerful extraordinaries. Then, the experts within their organization will step in, 【resurrect】 those deceased extraordinaries, and control their corpses like puppets on a string.”

“This is likely the main reason they attacked us. What they didn't expect, however, was to have someone like you at the gathering.”

“Resurrecting corpses?” War Freya murmured. “Is that a high-ranking ability of the Death Pathway?”

Shaw said, “It should be. However, I'm not very clear about the higher-level abilities of the Death Pathway. In any case, nothing good ever comes from this cult showing up in this city. I plan to lay low for a while.”

War Freya, on the other hand, said, “As for me, I might look into this organization a bit.”

Just as Shaw said, the cult's sudden appearance in the city boded ill, and there was no telling what evil scheme they were plotting.

Of course, War Freya wouldn't be foolish enough to investigate all on her own. For something like this, she would definitely report it directly to the police and let the Special Service handle it. Meanwhile, on Life Freya's side, she could ask the Church of the Earth for assistance. With strength in numbers, they could launch a city-wide manhunt.

War Freya asked, “So, is there anything else I should watch out for?”

Shaw thought for a moment and said, “Right, if you manage to find a stronghold of the Holy Blessing Society, absolutely do not touch anything inside carelessly. There's a high chance they are cursed.”

“That's also one of the abilities of the Death Pathway—placing curses. I'm not sure of the exact effects, but it's incredibly difficult to guard against. You must be extremely careful.”

“I suspect now that the body of the protruding-tongue masked man was cursed. The fanged wild boar masked man likely came into contact with the corpse and got cursed, allowing the Holy Blessing Society to track him here.”
