She rushed to Chiying, her steps quick and eager, and excitedly asked, “Student Liu Yi, did your Moling Dragon gain the Flying attribute?”
Liu Yi shook her head. “It’s not the Flying attribute. After its evolution, it gained a new Trait called ‘Cloud Walking,’ which allows it to fly freely.”
“Cloud Walking?” Fang Ning and the staff present repeated in unison, their faces filled with confusion.
“This Trait has never been recorded in the Beast Tamer Association’s official database,” an elderly researcher said, pushing up his glasses. “Could you elaborate?”
Liu Yi then explained the description of the Trait she had seen earlier.
The entire VIP Room instantly fell silent, everyone’s eyes wide.
A brand new Dragon-type pet, and it even possessed a brand new Trait.
“Quick! Start a full examination immediately!” Fang Ning snapped back to attention, directing the staff. “Photography team, multi-angle shots! Data analysis team, record all energy fluctuations! Medical team, check its post-evolution physical condition!”
Over the next period, Chiying cooperated and completed all the examinations. The staff busily recorded data, exclaiming in surprise from time to time.
“Its energy fluctuations far exceed those of an ordinary newly evolved Intermediate Dragon-type pet!”
“The scale hardness test results are in, and they’ve also increased compared to before!”
“This method of flight, completely independent of wings, really matches the name of the ‘Cloud Walking’ Trait!”
After the examination, Fang Ning solemnly told Liu Yi, “This data is extremely valuable. The Beast Tamer Association hopes to officially include Moling Dragon’s evolution data and grant you corresponding rewards and honors.”
Liu Yi replied, “That’s fine, but I hope to retain Chiying’s right to privacy and avoid excessive exposure.”
“Of course!” Fang Ning immediately agreed. “We will strictly control information releases, only publishing essential basic evolution data.”
“So, the information is updated now, right? I don’t need to go to another counter to update it, do I? Also, can Chiying be issued a [High-Altitude Flight Permit] now?” Liu Yi asked, looking at the staff members lingering around Chiying.
She was actually quite looking forward to this new mode of travel.
Fang Ning smiled and shook her head. “The VIP Room process already covers all procedures. However…” She hesitated. “Regarding the [High-Altitude Flight Permit]…”
Liu Yi asked, “Is there a problem?”
“No, it’s not a problem,” Fang Ning quickly explained. “It’s just that, under normal circumstances, Flying-type pets applying for a [High-Altitude Flight Permit]—which allows them to carry people at high altitudes—need to first pass a wing structure inspection and a flight stability test. But Moling Dragon…”
Her gaze fell on Chiying, who was effortlessly hovering in the air, wingless yet as steady as a rock.
Liu Yi understood. “Chiying’s flight doesn’t rely on wings; it’s due to its ‘Cloud Walking’ Trait. This test standard might not be applicable.”
“Precisely,” Fang Ning said, relieved. “However, President Shen had prepared a contingency plan in the association for pets with special flight methods. We can use a combination of energy fluctuation detection and actual flight testing.”
She turned to a staff member. “Immediately prepare a special flight collar. We’ll conduct Moling Dragon’s flight assessment at the test field.”
Half an hour later, Liu Yi, along with Ziyue and Chiying, arrived at the Beast Tamer Association’s flight test field.
It was a massive hemispherical space, with a retractable roof and walls covered in soft cushioning material.
Chiying wore a special silver collar around its neck, inlaid with several small detection crystals.
“This collar will record energy fluctuations and stability data during flight,” Fang Ning explained. “The test is divided into three parts: basic flight, high-speed maneuverability, and payload flight.”
Liu Yi nodded and told Chiying, “Go on, just do as they ask.”
Chiying gently nudged Liu Yi’s palm with its head, then soared into the air.
Its flight posture was elegant and unhurried, as if an invisible cloud supported it in the air.
“It’s truly amazing,” a researcher murmured. “No wings, no Flying attribute, not even Psychic-type telekinesis, yet it can hover so stably.”
The test quickly began.
During the basic flight segment, Chiying effortlessly performed actions like straight flight, circling, and ascending/descending.
In the high-speed maneuverability segment, it traced complex trajectories within the test field, its turning radius astonishingly small.
In the final payload segment, it even steadily lifted test weights equivalent to five times Liu Yi’s body weight.
Ziyue watched Chiying freely soaring in the air with serious eyes, her tails unconsciously swaying behind her.
“All the data exceeds expectations!” Fang Ning exclaimed, her eyes sparkling as she looked at the detection screen. “Moling Dragon’s flight stability even surpasses most winged Flying-type pets.”
“So, the [High-Altitude Flight Permit]?” Liu Yi asked.
“Of course, no problem,” Fang Ning said, taking a card from a nearby staff member and handing it to Liu Yi.
“Thank you.” Liu Yi put the card away. “If there are no other procedures, we’ll head back now.”
Fang Ning waved her hand. “You’re welcome. By the way, how are you planning to get back? Do you need me to arrange a car?”
Liu Yi exchanged a glance with Chiying, and the corners of her mouth curved slightly upward. “No need, we want to try a new way.”
...
Outside the Beast Tamer Association, Liu Yi took a deep breath, her fingers unconsciously caressing the [High-Altitude Flight Permit] in her pocket.
“Are you ready?” she asked softly.
Chiying lowered its head and gently nudged her cheek with its dragon horn, while Ziyue’s eyes also sparkled with anticipation.
Liu Yi mounted Chiying’s back, her hands grasping the dragon manes at its neck.
Chiying’s scales were very smooth, but strangely, once she sat on its back, she felt unusually secure, as if some invisible force held her in place.
Chiying tilted its head back and let out a clear dragon’s roar. The next second, its four claws lifted from the ground, and it steadily ascended into the air.
Ziyue called out, and a Frost Path instantly unfurled beneath her feet. The crystalline ice path floated in the air, and Ziyue gracefully leaped onto it, keeping pace with Chiying.
On the ground, Fang Ning looked up, watching their departing figures. She had initially thought Liu Yi would just let Chiying try a short flight, never expecting her to fly all the way home like this.
Ah, to be young.
Chiying ascended again, quickly reaching the fixed minimum flight altitude of three hundred meters.
From this height, the contours below were fully visible.
Ziyue ran along the ice path beside them, her two tails tracing elegant arcs behind her.
It caused the ice path behind it to shatter, ice crystals falling like snowflakes, sparkling in the sunlight.
Chiying began to accelerate, and the wind whistled past Liu Yi’s ears.
She instinctively crouched down, only to find that the oncoming airflow was separated by some invisible barrier, allowing only a comfortable breeze to pass through.
