Chen Xu patted Sindragosa's head and let it fly high into the sky.
"Wu~~"
Sindragosa spread its ice crystal wings and soared with a single flap, simultaneously condensing eight giant ice crystal mirrors that floated around it.
"Oh? Sindragosa, when did you learn this move? Not bad. This is much more impressive than what Kunpeng or Patchwerk can do."
These eight floating ice mirrors functioned like telescopes and could automatically adjust their magnification based on Chen Xu's thoughts.
"Wu~~~"
Sindragosa let out a happy cry upon receiving Chen Xu's praise.
Through the eight mirrors, Chen Xu discovered many special regions in the Land of the Undead, such as bone forests, massive graveyards, and eerie woods.
He also spotted a landmark recorded in the inherited knowledge of the Lord of the Undead: the largest Bone Gallery in the Land of the Undead.
Its owner was known as the Social Butterfly of the Land of the Undead, the Multi-Headed Drooping-Skulled Beautiful Bone Snake, Medusa.
So, Chen Xu's current position was at the southern tip of the Land of the Undead.
"The south," Chen Xu murmured, searching through the relevant records in his inherited knowledge.
He found that there were no particularly troublesome necrotic creatures in the south.
But strangely, according to Chen Xu's senses, his opponents—the other candidates for the Lord of the Undead—were all distributed in the north.
In this vast southern region, there was not a single candidate.
There were only two possibilities for this situation.
First, the south lacked gathering places for necrotic creatures and could not meet the recruitment needs of the candidates.
However, Chen Xu had just performed a casual sweep from the sky and saw bone forests, graveyards, and similar areas everywhere. It could even be said they were overflowing.
This definitely did not fall under the category of a protected area for rare species.
Since that was not the reason, it could only be the second possibility.
In the south, there was a powerful Necrotic Lord, or perhaps an even more formidable and terrifying necrotic archduke.
A Necrotic Lord was a mythic-tier necrotic creature. Necrotic creatures of this level usually left their tribes to establish their own territories.
A necrotic archduke was a terrifying existence at the eternal-tier, above the mythic-tier.
Such an existence usually commanded hundreds or even thousands of Necrotic Lords. They were the big bosses of the Land of the Undead, the regional powerbrokers.
Generally speaking, a necrotic archduke would not actively attack a candidate for the Lord of the Undead.
This was because the authority of the Lord of the Undead was transformed from the Heavenly Dao consciousness of the Land of the Undead. Within this realm, the Lord of the Undead was the absolute ruler.
With just a thought, they could strip any necrotic creature of its life, and a necrotic archduke was no exception.
Therefore, to avoid being purged later by the Lord of the Undead, a necrotic archduke would not intervene in the disputes between candidates.
To them, it did not matter who became the chairman of the necrotic corporation; there was no need to dig their own graves.
"So, is it a Necrotic Lord or a necrotic archduke?"
Chen Xu was unsure. Based on historical experience, a Necrotic Lord was more likely.
But one could never account for the reckless types. The position of Lord of the Undead had been vacant for so long that it was not impossible for a new-generation necrotic archduke to emerge—one who feared neither heaven nor earth.
If Chen Xu wanted to achieve godhood, he had to occupy a piece of territory in the Land of the Undead to serve as the foundation for his earthly divine kingdom. Then, using the faith of necrotic creatures, he would raise his divine throne and ascend to godhood.
This was the most common and efficient way to become a god in the Myriad Worlds.
If it was just a Necrotic Lord, Chen Xu would have no fear and could simply launch a direct assault to flatten them. But if it was a necrotic archduke, Chen Xu felt it was better to be tactical rather than a brute.
While Chen Xu was deep in thought, an ethereal voice drifted over.
"Great candidate for the Lord of the Undead, if you do not mind, you may come to the gallery. Medusa awaits your presence."
Chen Xu turned toward the west and narrowed his eyes.
He then issued an order to Xuan Chu below, commanding him to lead the troops westward toward the Bone Gallery.
Next, Chen Xu patted Sindragosa's head.
"Sindragosa, stay above the army and head toward that gallery."
"Wu~~~"
Sindragosa flapped its ice crystal wings, and the eight ice mirrors instantly shattered into powder, reattaching to its wings. It then dived down, landing at the very front of the undead army to lead the way.
Since this Social Butterfly of the Land of the Undead had sent an invitation, Chen Xu would meet her to see if he could gather any useful intelligence.
The information in his inherited knowledge was too outdated. Chen Xu needed a major update to prepare for the upcoming ascension ritual and the future competition for the Lord of the Undead.
As a human from a modern society, Chen Xu understood the profound importance of information.
The undead army advanced at full speed and soon arrived outside the Bone Gallery.
A strange bone snake, about fifty meters long and white as jade, was coiled up by the main entrance, waiting.
The lower half of the strange bone snake was no different from a normal snake, except it lacked flesh. However, its upper body possessed over a hundred different bone skulls, and its necks were incredibly long, drooping like willow branches.
In the very center was a human female skull with a straight neck, smiling as she looked toward the sky.
This strange bone snake was indeed Medusa.
Standing atop Sindragosa, Chen Xu looked down and met the gaze of Medusa's female head.
That single look made his entire body shudder as if he had been struck by lightning.
It wasn't that Chen Xu was frightened by Medusa's appearance. Rather, in that moment of eye contact, a terrifying thought had surfaced in his mind.
He actually thought Medusa was quite beautiful.
The thought flashed and vanished, but it made Chen Xu's heart tighten.
Could it be that looking at these necrotic creatures in his Undead Kingdom every day was slowly warping his sense of beauty?
He reached down, broke off a piece of ice crystal from Sindragosa's head, and popped it into his mouth.
The bone-chilling cold instantly cleared all emotion from his mind.
Sindragosa landed in front of Medusa.
Medusa lowered her heads and greeted him respectfully. "Great candidate for the Lord of the Undead, Medusa welcomes your arrival. I am sure you have many questions right now. Please follow me. I have prepared a banquet in the gallery where you can listen to my explanation while you enjoy the feast."
Medusa's voice seemed to resonate directly with the soul.
"Lead the way."
Chen Xu gestured for Medusa to lead.
Medusa raised her heads, turned around, and slithered forward. Suddenly, she turned back and said, "Your Black Knight lords may also come along."
"Is that so?"
Chen Xu turned and waved to Xuan Chu and the others, then looked at Sindragosa and asked, "Can my bone dragon enter?"
Medusa paused.
The reason she had suddenly invited Chen Xu's Black Knights was that they were the left and right hands of the Lord of the Undead—his most loyal servants.
During the long reign of the Lord of the Undead, necrotic creatures like her rarely had the chance to see the master, but they frequently interacted with the Black Knights.
As the saying goes, it is easy to meet the King of Hell but hard to deal with his messengers.
Building a good relationship with the Black Knights was very important.
She had simply been around for so long that she had momentarily forgotten.
But what on earth was a bone dragon? Medusa couldn't figure out what this new trend was.
On second thought, the candidate before her was the first living person in the history of the Land of the Undead to qualify for the position.
It was understandable if his ideas were a bit unique.
Thus, Medusa nodded and said respectfully, "Of course, Great candidate for the Lord of the Undead. Whoever you wish to attend the banquet is qualified to do so."
"Hahaha, then I won't be polite."
Chen Xu snapped his fingers, directly teleporting the skeleton heroes, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the Soul of Freedom, Flideng, to his side.
He left out Patchwerk and Kunpeng—one smelled too much, and the other had too large an appetite.
Looking at the skeleton heroes who had suddenly appeared and Bone Guard One, who was even taller than her, Medusa silently sent a message to her subordinates in the gallery.
"Odin, tell the kitchen that the number of guests has changed. For now, prepare for fifty... no, let's make it a hundred."
Medusa considered Bone Guard One's size and decided to raise the standard.
Thus, Chen Xu and his group followed Medusa into the legendary Bone Gallery.
Looking at the exquisite exhibits on display, Chen Xu felt like a country bumpkin entering the city, his eyes wide with wonder.
One could only say that necrotic creatures, who had no concerns about lifespan and nothing better to do, had developed some truly sinister artistic pursuits.
Just as Medusa invited Chen Xu and the others to sit and prepare for the banquet, a mythic-tier aura emerged outside the gallery.
That mythic-tier aura carried a heavy killing intent, aimed at Chen Xu's undead army.
Medusa turned her head toward the entrance, and a terrifying pressure radiated from her.
"Old Cyclops, this is my territory, and they are my guests."
Her tone was cold, completely different from the hospitality she had shown Chen Xu; it was filled with threat.
"Roar!!!"
Old Cyclops let out a furious roar, but intimidated by Medusa's power, he eventually left.
"Great candidate for the Lord of the Undead, please forgive that display. That Ghoul King was born not long ago; he is young and lacks manners."
"Hahaha, it's fine, it's fine." Chen Xu waved his hand and looked at Medusa. "I just didn't expect that the legendary Social Butterfly of the Land of the Undead, Medusa, would actually be an eternal-tier powerhouse."
