Although Medusa’s previous display of power was not directed at Chen Xu, its close proximity allowed him to clearly sense that it was definitely not an aura a mythic-tier being could emit.
Since it was not mythic-tier, it could only be the eternal-tier.
"Great candidate for the Lord of the Undead, Medusa thanks you for your praise."
"You can just call me Chen Xu."
Facing an eternal-tier powerhouse and a veteran creature of the Land of the Undead, Chen Xu felt it was better to be humble.
"Great Lord Chen Xu, your humility is truly a rare quality in the Land of the Undead."
"Hahaha, Lady Medusa, you are too kind."
"I am not being kind; these are my heartfelt words."
Due to the nature of necrotic creatures, except for spirit-type beings, other undead were no different from ordinary wild beasts before reaching the epic-tier.
They were simple-minded, and the pitiful soul fire in their skulls could not support much thought.
If they didn't like someone, they fought on sight. Or, if someone else had a particularly nice-looking bone, they would sneak up from behind and kill them for it.
Only in the territories of high-tier necrotic creatures, such as those of a Necrotic Lord or a necrotic archduke, would they live in harmony under the commands of a superior being.
Therefore, Chen Xu’s mindset as a living human intrigued Medusa.
Neutral necrotic creatures like her generally did not intervene in the disputes over the position of Lord of the Undead. However, Medusa felt that having a living person as the Lord of the Undead might be quite good and very interesting.
This dead and silent Land of the Undead was too boring; it needed some fresh air to come in and stir up the waves.
"Great Lord Chen Xu and your fellow heroes, please be seated."
Chen Xu and his skeleton heroes, Black Knights, and bone dragon found their seats and sat down.
"Odin!"
At Medusa’s call, a ghost butler emerged, leading a group of bizarre-looking skeletons carrying trays.
While the skeleton servants served the dishes, Medusa began to explain the current situation in the Land of the Undead.
"As far as I know, there are currently thirteen candidates for the Lord of the Undead. Lord Chen Xu, you are the twentieth."
"Twenty? Didn't you say there were only thirteen?"
"Oh, my apologies, my description may have been flawed. There are thirteen candidates still alive.
Seven candidates have died in fierce struggles. Even their bones have become decorations on their enemies' bodies."
The food had been served, and Medusa gestured for Chen Xu to eat while he listened to her story.
Chen Xu lifted a lid, took one look, and gave a polite smile.
"I have recently been practicing a secret technique that makes it inconvenient for me to eat."
Then, he smoothly pushed the plate in front of him to Xuan Chu beside him.
On the plate was a bloody heart that was still twitching, accompanied by a pool of black, eerie sauce that looked like rotten mud.
Chen Xu lost his appetite after a single glance.
He should have known better; what kind of aesthetic could these necrotic creatures possibly have?
"Oh, a human secret technique? I once had the honor of attending a banquet for a previous Lord of the Undead, where there were many Dao Lords who shook the Myriad Worlds.
They possessed powerful forces that were entirely different from the power of the Lord of the Undead.
Is the power you are cultivating one of those, Lord Chen Xu?"
Chen Xu nodded, awkwardly playing along.
"Great Lord Chen Xu, your ambition commands Medusa’s respect."
Medusa assumed that Chen Xu was not content with being limited to the power of the Lord of the Undead and was seeking another powerful force.
After all, in the eyes of the undead, humans were an ambitious race.
In the Myriad Worlds, humans were definitely an anomaly. This race contained both paladins who believed in Heaven and demon warlocks who walked with Hell.
They believed in the truths of magic yet were also obsessed with bloodline power. They cultivated to defy the heavens while others merged with the Dao to return to the heavens, all in pursuit of immortality.
In short, whether the Myriad Worlds were in chaos depended on two major factors: Hell and humanity.
Subsequently, Medusa focused on introducing the attacker from outside the gallery earlier.
The Ghoul King, Old Cyclops.
Medusa knew that Chen Xu had not yet ascended to the divine throne, and his return to the Land of the Undead this time must be to raise his divine throne.
With competitors in every other direction, this remaining southern territory was Chen Xu's best choice.
Old Cyclops was an outstanding individual among ghouls, possessing a growth speed and potential far exceeding his race.
Normally, a Ghoul King was merely an epic-tier existence.
But for some reason, Old Cyclops had broken through to the mythic-tier. Furthermore, he was a formidable mythic-tier being.
Medusa thought for a moment, frantically searching her mind for the right vocabulary.
"To use the terms of Lord Chen Xu's human race, that Old Cyclops is at the mythic-tier consummation stage."
"Cough, cough!"
Chen Xu was drinking a soda he kept in his storage space, and hearing Medusa's words, he nearly sprayed it out.
"Lord Chen Xu, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, please continue."
Medusa continued the story of Old Cyclops.
With that level of strength, Old Cyclops occupied the southernmost lands of the Land of the Undead.
Medusa was the only eternal-tier being here, but unlike other eternal-tier beings, she did not enjoy building kingdoms or ruling over necrotic creatures. She only guarded her gallery, immersing herself in necrotic art.
Consequently, Old Cyclops became the overt ruler of this region.
It wasn't that no candidates for the Lord of the Undead had tried to recruit him; a powerful mythic-tier ghoul, a rarity of his kind, had been targeted by many.
One of the seven deceased candidates had come here to recruit Old Cyclops.
Afterward, Old Cyclops had a hearty meal and slept for a full century.
You see, for a creature like a ghoul, eating an elephant was like eating a bowl of rice; they could finish a whole pot in one sitting.
The poor candidate and his subordinates all ended up in Old Cyclops' stomach.
It was also this battle that made Old Cyclops' name known throughout the Land of the Undead.
Chen Xu frowned after listening to Medusa’s explanation.
Mythic-tier consummation sounded quite intimidating, and based on his actual track record, he was indeed terrifying.
"Lady Medusa, how many necrotic creatures did that unlucky candidate have in his army?"
"About a hundred million. That candidate was a mythic-tier abomination, and his subordinates were mostly abominations.
There were only a few skeleton soldiers."
"A hundred million, huh?"
Chen Xu murmured in a low voice.
If Old Cyclops could eat a hundred million, could he still eat his army of one billion?
Ten to one, the advantage is mine.
Moreover, Chen Xu had absolute confidence in his undead army.
These were inveterate overachievers with the 996 talent buff, definitely not comparable to these lazy, idle necrotic creatures in the Land of the Undead.
Seeing Chen Xu's deep frown, Medusa spoke up.
"Lord Chen Xu, I can guarantee your safety within my gallery. But if you choose to leave and go to war with Old Cyclops, I can only close the doors and await your victory or death.
The growth of the Lord of the Undead is something we cannot interfere with. Providing information is the limit of what I can do. I hope you understand."
"Lady Medusa, you are too kind. I will keep your help in my heart. Once I ascend to that supreme throne, I will surely bring you the best bones from the Myriad Worlds."
Medusa was delighted by Chen Xu’s promise, growing even more expectant of this living person ascending the throne of the Lord of the Undead.
After the meal, Chen Xu stepped out of the Bone Gallery.
Chen Xu turned to look at Medusa inside the gallery and nodded to her.
Then, he mounted Sindragosa and returned to the center of his army.
"Bang!"
The doors of the Bone Gallery closed, the muffled sound catching the attention of Old Cyclops nearby.
Seeing this unfamiliar candidate for the Lord of the Undead actually leave the gallery and lead an army to charge toward him...
"Roar!!!"
Old Cyclops let out a loud roar, the sound waves whistling past and shaking the rotten flesh off his body onto the ground.
As soon as the rotten flesh hit the ground, it transformed into small ghouls.
As the roar ended, there were already over a hundred ghouls beneath Old Cyclops.
Old Cyclops opened his mouth wide, looking at Chen Xu in the sky, and with his limbs gripping the ground, he charged frantically toward the undead army.
A great battle had begun.
