Chapter 209 | Overtime Necromancy: My Legion Never Sleeps

Similar to high-tier undead creatures like the Undead Bone Dragon, Necrotic Knight, abomination, and ghost, the special enhancements granted by Chen Xu's talent were individual upgrades where great power was concentrated within the self.

This time, the Bone Kun was no exception.

Furthermore, Chen Xu truly liked Kunpeng, a creature that stood out among its kind. He chose Kunpeng for this talent enhancement without a moment's hesitation.

【Ancient Memory: Select one Bone Kun to awaken the ancient power within its bloodline. Ancient Memory grants the following effects.】

【1. Echoes of Ancestors: Ancestral will flows through your blood. When you resonate with this will, you shall summon echoes left by your ancestors in historical time and space.

(Can you handle this qigong wave of mine, passed down through three generations! Ka! Me! Ka! Me! Ha!!!)】

【2. Ancient Remnants: As a bloodline survivor from ancient times, you exude the aura of an ancient one. Your strength will gradually increase with the passage of time.

(Time is the most ruthless creature in the world. It takes away family, friends, and old things. No matter how I try to block it, I cannot make time stop. But fortunately, time also takes away my weaknesses. Ancient ones draw nourishment from time; we are immortal demons!)】

【3. Disordered Inheritance: The ancient era was a time of great power, but also one of chaos. There, civilization and order were buried, while chaos and destruction were frequent guests.

Born of this era, you are compatible with all ancient bloodlines and can obtain their power.

(You youngsters today should be content. Back in my day, I had to snatch food from Qilin, fight true dragons for territory, and contend with phoenixes. I had to exhaust all my strength just to integrate a hundred schools of thought and reign supreme over the ages.)】

The exclusive enhancement 【Ancient Memory】 also had three enhancement points. The first, 【Echoes of Ancestors】, could summon ancestral echoes from the bloodline to assist in battle.

However, it was unclear if Kunpeng could control who was summoned. One had to realize that even in powerful bloodlines, there were those who just made up the numbers. The gap between the strongest and weakest members of a race was often staggering.

If 【Echoes of Ancestors】 could consistently summon the echo of the strongest ancestor, it would be an absolutely terrifying skill.

One must remember that the Bone Kun, as an undead creature personally shaped by the Lord of the Undead and specifically designed as a combat pet for external battles, had produced many eternal-tier existences. Moreover, they were no ordinary eternal-tier beings; their ferocity and ruthlessness in battle were beyond what most could imagine.

The specific details would have to wait for Kunpeng to perform a practical test. Fortunately, there were plenty of competitors in the Land of the Undead for it to show off its skills.

The second point, 【Ancient Remnants】, was a very simple and crude enhancement. Generally, creatures gradually lose power as they age, but the enhancement for Ancient Remnants worked in reverse—the older, the stronger.

It was just unknown how many years it would take for this enhancement to show results. After all, even by the standards of an ordinary human's age, Kunpeng was just a baby born a few years ago.

The third point, 【Disordered Inheritance】, was somewhat similar to Patchwerk's 【Adaptive Flesh】. It allowed compatibility with multiple bloodlines, but Kunpeng's 【Disordered Inheritance】 was limited to ancient bloodlines, making its scope slightly narrower than Patchwerk's.

While Chen Xu was still analyzing the three enhancements of Ancient Memory, a surge of energy suddenly erupted from within Kunpeng.

Golden light shot out from Kunpeng's body, creating ripples in the air.

When these ripples hit Chen Xu's face, they actually caused him—an eternal-tier existence—to feel a slight stinging sensation.

Next, even more golden energy poured out of Kunpeng, but it no longer overflowed. Instead, it adhered to Kunpeng's bone armor.

The energy grew more abundant, gradually forming a massive sphere of light nearly five thousand miles long and three thousand miles wide.

Chen Xu was forced to fly into the air to observe Kunpeng's transformation.

When the sphere of light expanded to 9,999 miles long and 5,555 miles wide, it stopped growing. Instead, it began to contract and expand rhythmically, like a beating heart.

After a long while, a crack appeared on the sphere of light, followed by more and more. Within seconds, the cracks covered the sphere like a spiderweb.

"Skreeeeee!"

A long cry echoed from within the light. The sphere exploded, transforming into a mass of feathers that scattered in all directions.

A Golden-Winged Great Roc appeared.

Its entire body was covered in golden feathers that shimmered brilliantly. A strange growth sat upon its head, resembling a crown. Its eyes were deep, reflecting the stars.

Most terrifying were the pair of slender talons below. Geng Gold energy swirled around them; merely looking at them caused a faint, phantom pain.

"What an imposing presence!"

Chen Xu couldn't help but remark. If the Bone Kun's appearance was terrifying with a hint of silliness, the Great Roc before him was pure majesty.

"Skree!"

The Kunpeng spread its massive wings. With a slight flap, it whipped up a gale. A violent storm swept forth, tossing the skeleton soldiers in the distant Bone Thicket into the sky.

Chen Xu turned to look and found that besides the skeletons, some wandering ghosts had also been caught in the gale, spinning wildly in the air.

"Skree!"

Kunpeng paid no mind to what was happening in the distance. It flew into the sky and positioned its head beneath Chen Xu's feet, carrying him high into the heavens.

As it reached the heights, it deliberately kicked up another gale, blowing it toward the Everfrost Divine Kingdom.

Sindragosa, who was lying on the snow mountain, didn't understand what this stupid Kun was freaking out about again. It blew a light breath of cold air, dispersing the incoming storm.

"Not bad. I have another handsome mount."

As a successful person, how could he have only one ride? Previously, the Bone Kun form was just a bit too unsightly; otherwise, with its mythic-tier strength, it would have been worthy of being Chen Xu's mount.

Now, with the Golden-Winged Great Roc form, Chen Xu had another option for travel.

After letting Kunpeng fly a few laps, Chen Xu patted its head and told it to go play for a bit.

He was still busy enhancing the remaining undead creatures. Time was tight and the task was heavy; a brief moment of relaxation was enough.

He had already chosen his next enhancement target. With a teleport, he arrived before the Flaying Cellar.

The area was already crowded with many hopping Stygian Dolls. These hideous-looking skeleton dwarves immediately began dancing around Chen Xu to express their respect the moment they saw him arrive.

After reaching the eternal-tier, Chen Xu's talent was liberated. He no longer needed levels to unlock enhancement slots. In other words, he could max out the talent enhancements for an undead unit type all at once.

Though the Stygian Dolls were quite powerful and their self-destruction was a nightmare in the Land of the Undead, they were essentially still mid-tier undead, barely reaching the threshold of high-tier.

Therefore, the Stygian Dolls' talent enhancements were similar to the enhancement affix selections for skeleton soldiers. However, after reaching the eternal-tier, Chen Xu could choose the combination of affixes himself instead of relying on luck.

Thus, a Stygian Doll with a crazy combination of 【Extra Fast】 + 【Aura of Fanaticism】 + 【Aura of Conviction】 was born.

【Extra Fast: All speeds of the Stygian Doll are doubled.】

【Aura of Fanaticism: The Stygian Doll gains the Aura of Fanaticism, which provides massive bonuses to attack speed, attack damage, and accuracy.】

【Aura of Conviction: The Stygian Doll gains the Aura of Conviction, which lowers all enemy resistances, making enemies as fragile as if they were facing judgment.】

The extreme speed bonus ensured that every Stygian Doll could use its speed advantage to reach the enemy's side. Combined with the weakening effect of the Aura of Conviction, every Stygian Doll's self-destruction would be as brilliant as a firework.

It was a pity the Stygian Dolls didn't have any decorations; otherwise, if they were equipped with pure white headbands, they would be truly invincible.

With the two major generals—the Bone Kun and the Stygian Dolls—fully enhanced, Chen Xu didn't have much interest in the remaining minor minions.

The Land of the Undead was still in the eruption phase of the necrotic tide. So, for his next step, Chen Xu planned to head to the Outerworld Battlefield to experience Hell's demon army firsthand.

He intended to decide on the enhancements for the remaining undead creatures after observing the Hell demons. If necessary, he planned to build an army specifically tailored to counter them.
